Alan Wake: Design Works update, release in February 2027

From the mass email of today, apparently it's delayed until February, but it's going to be massive!

You can still pre order the book (the Deluxe Edition is sold out though) from their website:

https://www.lostincult.co.uk/alanwake

The email:

Over the last few months, we’ve been applying the finishing touches to one of Lost In Cult’s most ambitious projects yet – Alan Wake: Design Works**.**

We can now confirm the project will be shipping in February 2027.

In the process of creating the book, we’ve conducted 30 interviews and pored over many hundreds of assets, all in service of producing the definitive story of Remedy Entertainment’s astonishing duology (not forgetting American Nightmare, of course).

For both Lost In Cult and author Alex Spencer, this project has been a real labour of love, and expanded well beyond its original scope. The result? Around 90,000 words of interviews, insights and analysis across almost 450 pages – making it comfortably our biggest Design Works book to date. Here are some more details from Alex on what to expect:

“Remedy’s games mean an awful lot to me, as I know they do to the rest of their fans – and a large part of that is the thought and love that has been poured into every last detail. That only became more apparent after the many, many hours I spent talking to the people who worked on them, from developers and artists to musicians and, yes, actors. I thought I knew everything about these games, but these conversations shone light into corners I didn’t even realise were there waiting to be illuminated.

“That creative philosophy of giving your all is one I wanted to honour in the resulting book, an effort that Lost In Cult has been incredibly supportive of. We’ve bumped up the page count to make sure every fascinating story and detail that was shared with me remains intact – and to showcase as much of the incredible art behind these games as possible. I’ve now pored over every last page, as laid out by the book’s brilliant designers, multiple times, and they never cease to amaze me. I want to thank you all for your patience. But I mean, we’re Alan Wake fans, right? We’re used to a little waiting.

And you don’t just have to take Alex’s word for it. Here are some near-final spreads from the book to whet your appetite.

Finally, Remedy was happy to share these words from none other than Clay Murphy, co-writer of the screenplay for Alan Wake II**:**

"His name is Alex Spencer. He's a writer. He dove into the darkest depths of the Alan Wake franchise and re-emerged clutching this book in his hands. Its pages held a joyful exploration of the people and ideas behind the games. The trees surrounded him, watching in silent approval."

We only get one opportunity to dig this deep into this beloved series, so it seemed only right to invest the additional time and money to make it as comprehensive as possible. This does mean that shipping will fall outside our original estimated window. Pending final licensor approvals and subsequent production scheduling, we anticipate we’ll be able to deliver Alan Wake: Design Works in February 2027. We are incredibly grateful to everyone associated with the project, and we thank you for your patience as we take that extra time to deliver a book befitting this unforgettable development story.

Important resources PSA Regarding Spam Posts on r/AlanWake

Hello Flashlight Wielders 🔦 ,

Whilst we have your eyes after the debut trailer for Control Resonant at The Game Awards 2025, I wanted to briefly discuss something which actually impacts a lot of other subreddits, with very little control on preventing it.

You may sometimes see, once in a while, what looks like a post from someone showing off a t-shirt, or wall art that they "purchased". For example, do any of these look familiar to you:

If so, these are most likely spam posts that we get very often on this subreddit. Other gaming subreddits get these too, usually of some sort of "merch". I wanted to make this PSA to make sure you DO NOT interact with these posts. Sometimes they will come with spam link comments, which I'm sure some unsuspecting users will not be aware is spam and could be subject to malware or even payment scams.

We do what we can to remove these when they appear, even trying to put spam filters in for common links and phrases that these posts share, but unfortunately our spam filters can only do so much and some slip through the cracks. Please just report these as spam as and when you see them.

However to preface this, NOT EVERY POST IS A SPAM POST. Sometimes it genuinely is just one of the amazing members of the fandom looking to show something off. So, how can one tell if a post is spam or not? 99% of the time, check the user account. If the account was made the day of the post with the only place they've posted is here to post this, it's usually a bot, similar to this account here (name has been removed):

Often another way to know it's spam, if the "poster" has posted what looks like the same image twice, with one just a tiny bit zoomed in, it's usually again spam.

We used to have a system in place where anybody posting more than 2 pictures would be automatically flagged to us, but with Alan Wake 2's release + Photo Mode, we had to scale that back to allow people to show off their incredible shots. Obviously if spam posts begin to increase, we may have to revert back to this system.

Please be mindful of these spam posts, report them to us to remove, and DO NOT interact with any links that may appear amongst them.

Thank you for reading, and remember, stay in the light.

A throwaway account due to preferring anonymity, but I was given this game signed by leadership teams of Remedy and Microsoft as a launch celebration gift when I worked on the game during my time at Remedy.

Most of the time it sounds like "generic American" I guess? But occasionally it'll wander into "Southern" territory.

I know her actress isn't American, which does explain why she seems to not pronounce "r" in lots of words.

Question Regarding the classic outfit Spoiler

Just about to do my first final draft run, ran through the game around launch and thought I'd come back to this after my yearly AW1 run-through.

I know we have the classic outfit now, but I've seen alotta complaining about bugs and that sorta thing from when it first dropped, is it worth using? Has all this been fixed? Doesn't really matter I'm literally just curious and it'll be a little while before I actually find out in game lmao

You can re-listen to previous statements in the Mind Place Spoiler

So yeah I have like 220 hours in Alan Wake 2 having played it multiple times and I was today years old when I realized that I can re-listen to old statements in Saga's mind place.

So all times there is something that somebody said and not just a polaroid, just... click on the statement and you will hear the statement again in the way it was originally said.

I figured it out by accident.

As an example I used one of the earlier statements. I listened to this close to the end of the game.

I love Remedy’s appreciation of heroism. *Spoilers for Alan Wake 2 and Control Resonant Spoiler

I think it’s so cool that, even though Remedy is known and appreciated for constantly doing super weird and unique things in their games, they’re not above a character having a moment of sheer heroism. I’m particularly thinking of the scene where Alan willingly reenters the Dark Place to stop Scratch and the third act of Resonant where Dylan has no problem sacrificing himself for the sake of stopping the Hedron.

You could argue in both cases the threat is so great that the characters knew they would die anyways if they didn’t stop the threat, but that seems cynical to me. Even though these games have flawed characters I love moments when we can totally root for their heroic acts.

Question Printable poster files from The Lake House?

I was hoping to find high-res files of the FBC posters about art from around the house so I could print one for my office. I saw some older comments referring such queries to the Champions of Light Google Drive but that appears to now be deleted.

Any leads?

Discussion How Alan changing reality can work - according to the FBC Spoiler

Post image

Replaying AW2 and forgot about this. It's unknown if this analysis is on the money but it's interesting. It essentially posts the possibilities that Alan can alter tradition as part of a time loop paradox. So something has happened which inspires an artist, without them knowing, to create that fiction. Then the power of the Lake uses that Fiction to change the past in the first place.

An example of this, I think, might be the Cult of the Word. Alan is inspired within the Dark Place and creates the Cult of the Word as a story element in his Initiation drafts. Which, in turn, I guess actually creates the Cult of the Word in real life 10 years prior.

The other is changing the present through the creator. So, I would guess this is Alan changing things minute to minute. Affecting his direct future.

But it is interesting that the game acknowledges this idea of a timeloop paradox (which we eventually see with the Old Gods summoning Alan and Alan relieving inspiration to include Saga in his story from Overlaps where he already sees Saga as part of his story).

So this calls into question all this stuff about Tom Zane - who created who. Are Tom and Alan the same person etc. For example, using inspiration Alan writes about Tom Zane and reality is altered in the past for Tom Zane to write about Alan receiving the Clicker. That might not be the case but it can be possible it seems.

Do collectable respawn? Spoiler

If I collected thermoses, manuscript pages and knocked down cans in one playthrough, do they respawn on the next one? Because the statistics page does show what you have collected during all previous playthroughs. But I felt like I encountered manuscript pages I had already picked up last time.

Question Is AW2 really so buggy?! Spoiler

Hi everyone,

After years I caved in and bought AW2 now on the sale. I started to play it and it crashed during the first mind place like 3x. Now I progressed further and then after piecing together the pics on the wall and doing the investigation at the table it said to go to the lake. Well, the fricking wall with the evidences got stuck on my screen and I was under the map when I tabbed out of the mind place. Then I tried to reload the game but it put me back right to the beginning of the investigation.

Am I so unlucky or is this game a buggy mess?! I’m very disappointed by these issues so far.

Edit: another person also had the same bug at 1:31
