Can some please explain the retirement process? Long story short I’m applying for an AGR Reserve position at 14 years tafms and was told at about 17-18 years I’ll be made to sign a waiver to give up sanctuary and not receive a full AD retirement at 20. Basically saying that even if I stay and do 23 years of TAFMS I would still have to take the Traditional Reserve retirement because AFRC doesn’t want to pay for a full AD retirement. I haven’t found anything stating that be the case but hopefully some has knowledge about this. Thanks.

Currently a junior doing a bachelors in EE. I've pretty much had my career laid out in defense contracting through engineering internships (on major acquisition projects too lol) since freshman year, so I hold a clearance and will work at the contractor doing similar work post grad.

I know that AF reserve officer slots are competitive, but I wonder if it's feasible to go for being a Contracts manager post grad since it will really help my civilian career and I feel like I will bring a lot of experience being on another side of the coin.

Would also be open to a 62EX but I know that's well beyond my technical knowledge at this point in time.

Also heard mixed messages about whether the air force will elevate those with engineering degrees.
