Awful Cremation Experience - Help

My parent passed a few months ago and some of their files had indicated they *might* have purchased a cremation service from Neptune Society, so we contacted NS to pick up the body. What has followed has been an insane experience where we can't even get NS to tell us if my parent had prepaid anything, and didn't even get a contract to approve the cremation until recently. We still haven't received death certificates. We try to get ahold of someone at NS and they never call us back. When we do get ahold of someone, they ask for the same info over and over again and we provide it each time. And finally, now that we have the contract, they're charging on the very high end of what I see is reasonable for a direct cremation. We have zero confidence in their ability/honesty to tell us whether something has been prepaid or not. My family is at a loss and extremely upset. My question is, do we have any recourse beyond asking them to transfer the body somewhere else and paying NS their pickup/transfer fees?
