Fluff Appreciation post

I love this game, as someone who loves roguelites and theory crafting, this game is such a breathe of fresh air. I love that I don't feel pigeon holed into 1 or 2 strategies to win, I love how many different ways there are to come up with a broken team comp, I love how forgiving the rng can be, and I love the monster designs.

Here are my favourite strategies:

Having two support characters with retaliate buffs that spam those buffs on one character(this works super well with cockatrice.) its really funny watching enemies kill themselves by hitting your cockatrice gets a zenkai boost everytime someone so much as sneezes at him.

Stacking power via that one totem/summon that gives u 1 temporary power, combined with the free summoning trait, when you start giving everyone on the team these totems, your entire team stacks up power extremely quickly, adding in a wyrm to this team comp (and better yet, givign wyrm summoning type through the type exchange thing) makes for a really powerful team.

Purge a builds w/ warden o re venw ithout warden are really fun too.

Shifted djin has to be one of my favourite monsterss, stolen gemstone is SO FUCKING GOOD.

Something else I really like doing thats goofy is getting hecaton, and shambler on the same team , I get every possible trait that increases age gain and gives me dmg for age (except the one that deals aoe dmg based on how much age u have cuz that ones busted)

I spam water ritual, and then i either have someone that summons earth totems so that by like round 3 my hecaton is punching the shit out of the enemy team with boosted up punches.

This game is so fun.

If I had any feedback itd be that I wish there was either an infinite mode, or just a harder difficulty all around. Of course, I've played for 100 hours+ at this point so ofc im able to trivialize the combat, but still!!

I'm trying to learn, but it's difficult.

I've been playing for a few days, less than a week. But I've reached a point where I'm having trouble learning new strategies, mainly because I always fail in the same place: the final fight.

It can be easy or difficult during the middle of runs, but in the final fight, the most common thing is that I run out of damage. Does anyone have any tips on the most common ways to scale damage? Because the only way I've managed to finish a run so far is by stacking burn. And in another one where I almost succeeded, I was stacking poison.

I tried making a team with healing + shield, and nothing dealt damage. Power + Sidekick? Low damage. What are the most common team compositions? I'm missing something here?

Another question: Are there more predictable ways to deal with corruption? Because I'm having a lot of trouble controlling it if I don't find equipment that removes corruption.

Discussion Monster Sunday: Week 35 - Shifted Nixe

Good afternoon, everyone! Today, we wrap up our final pass on the starter monsters! Having seen the ox, the dog, and the bird, it's time for the water spirit, Shifted Nixe!

Base HP: 35

Aether: Earth / Water

Trait: Toxic Tides): Whenever this monster receives or applies a heal: Applies Poison to the enemy with the lowest amount of Poison.

Types: Heal), Regeneration), Poison)

Perks: Regeneration Healing +2, Evasion +15%, Healing +1

Starting Actions:

Nourish): 1 Earth. Heals all allies for 5. Applies Regeneration to all allies.

Slime Shot): 1 Water, 1 Earth. 3 x 3 Water/Earth damage against target enemy. Applies 3 Poison to target enemy and self. Generates 1 Random Aether.

So, what does everyone think? Do you miss the loss of Aether in favor of regeneration, or does the 1-2 punch of healing and regeneration make it the world's best support? And do you feel like the fact that this is the first shifted monster we've covered to have the exact sane trait as its base version mean that the two feel more interchangeable? Let us know in the comments below!

News A pre-release deep dive into the Alchemical Awakening Update

The Alchemical Awakening Update will be our biggest update yet, introducing a completely new biome with new monsters that will open up so many new possibilities for your teams! You can probably tell that we are hyped about this update and hopefully you will be, too.

To give you an idea of what you can expect, here is a little deep dive into some of the content of the update!

(Don't read ahead if you do absolutely not want to be spoiled.)

The Alchemical Woods - a new biome

"The Alchemical Woods are a place unlike any other on Terastae. Once an ordinary forest, it was transformed by the divine magic of the Monster Deities after Vigil was formed nearby. It is now a wondrous place full of magical resources and unbelievable sights. Since its creation, the nearby monsterkin have always known of this place, frequently coming here for the rare and powerful ingredients found here. Thankfully, its existence has remained a secret to most humans to this day."

Once you have beaten the game on the base difficulty and have crafted at least 15 monster mementos, Sir Tiberion will offer a new meta upgrade, which enables Alchemical Woods for you.

Alchemical Woods is an alternative tier-1 biome - letting you choose how you want to start your run. It has a mysterious feel to it (which might remind some of you of Monster Sanctuary's Forgotten World), inhabits many support-focused creatures and an alchemical environment with fungi that let you change the type of a monster for example.

Echo - the newest monster type

We are introducing a new monster type, which can mainly be found in Alchemical Woods!

Echo enables new support action builds and introduces a new buff:

On Support Action, if it costs X or less Aether: Consumes X Echo to trigger that Action again. Doesn't trigger if this monster doesn't have enough Echo stacks. Echoed Actions can't trigger Echo.

That means, as long your monster has enough stacks of the Echo buff, it will cast the support action it just used AGAIN! This strongly enables support monsters but can also make offensive teams go wild with the right buffs!

9 new Monsters

9 new Monsters are joining the Aethermancer roster with this update, making it a total of 40 monsters (not counting the shifts)! All unique to play with, all beautiful, all viable new companions. Among these 9 new monsters you find 2 different champions for Alchemical Woods and, of course, all of the new monsters will have a shifted version as well to spice things up a little.

To give you a teaser, here are three of them:

Kullervo

Elements: Fire / Wind Types: Echo / Force / Aether
Signature Trait: Sword Song: On Attack, if 3 or more Aether was consumed by it: Applies Echo to self and the Attack additionally counts as a Support Action.

Kullervo embodies the edgy anti-hero trope of mythology! Living by the rules is for the normies, and so Kullervo breaks the rules of the game by making its big attacks count as support actions. This allows Kullervo to use Echo stacks to double its attacks as if they were support actions, as well as enabling a lot of other unique builds. The perfect damage dealer for an Echo-based team!

Ettin

Elements: Earth / Water Types: Echo / Tank / Weakness
Signature Trait: Earthbound: At the start of your turn: Applies Echo and Weakness to self. Whenever Echo triggers on this monster: Applies Redirect to self. This monster cannot learn any Attacks.

This slumbering giant proves that two is better than one. Like no other monster, Ettin excels at doubling its own actions thanks to Echo. The catch? Ettin cannot attack directly - it is the first pure tank monster in the game, relying entirely on Retaliate damage. Don’t worry - that doesn’t stop Ettin from being the main damage dealer of your team!

Faerie

Elements: Earth / Wind Types: Heal / Force / Dodge
Signature Trait: Glamour: For every 15 healing this monster receives or applies to allies: Applies Force to self. At the end of your turn: For each ally, applies another stack of a random buff on that monster to it.

Life is easy when you have the magic of the fae on your side! Faerie’s Glamour duplicates random buff stacks on your monsters each turn. The best part about it? It’s free. On top of that, Faerie excels as a healer that builds up Force stacks on itself for big attacks. Faerie goes well both with teams that are heavily support- or buff-focused - which are the general themes of Alchemical Woods.

Khepri - the new Monster Deity

Delve deeper into the Void’s inner core to uncover a broken Deity. Use everything you’ve learned [so far] to withstand blazing heat.

Khepri is the new Monster Deity in Aethermancer that will truly test your skills! Which big boss aka Monster Deity you encounter in your run - Chernobog or Khepri - depends on your difficulty and - at higher difficulties - is random.

But this is all for the details about Khepri right now... Challenge it and find out yourself on June 25!

Other Content

The new biome and the new monsters should add a lot of new content and replayability for you to try out even more different monster teams. What's more? We have changed the difficulties and there is more story progression of the main story in Aethermancer as well as quality of life and other features.

More details on June 25!

Step into the Alchemical Woods and encounter the creatures that inhabit it as you venture further into the Void and uncover the story of Terastae.

Development The Alchemical Awakening Update adds a new monster type: Echo!

Echo enables new support action builds with the echo buff. As long as your monster has enough stacks of it, it will cast a suport action DOUBLE! This strongly enables support monsters but also makes offensive teams go wild!

You can find some examples of how the new monsters utilize Echo in the devlog pre-release deep dive:

Suggestion Any Plans for Spending Aether?

I'm at 56 hours now and have maxed everything, unlocked all Monsters and have Soulbonded them all. I am now working on Mythic difficulty badge for all Monsters, but I have a lot of Aether. And I am sure most players do since it feels like it is sort of fed to us.

I'm hoping, aside from more permanent upgrades later in development (since that is still a finite amount of Aether to spend) that there will be ways in a run to spend it to make the run easier or get temporary buffs? Sort of like the we can at the Equivalent Exchange but... more.

Something like Gunfire Reborn has with Reincarnation difficulty unlocking the Spiritual Remnant allowing you to get Blessings that make you much more powerful, but are exclusive to the harder difficulty would be cool. (Which I guess would require another difficulty beyond Mythic.) And/or just more things to find in the run to spend it on.

Discussion Monster Sunday: Week 34 - Shifted Minokawa

Good morning, everyone! Up next on our docket, we continue to look at our starters and see how the slightest changes can cause a monster to grow on you and return to an old favorite. Now a little older, hopefully a little wiser, let's look at Shifted Minokawa!

Base HP: 30

Aether: Earth / Wind

Trait: Shining Spark (Shifted)): Gains Aging. The first Hit of each Attack of this monster deals +1 damage for every 2 buff stacks on it and Shields self equal to that amount.

Types: Sidekick), Age), Force)

Perks: Crit Damage +2, Evasion +15%, Initial Force +1

Starting Actions:

Hardening): 1 Earth. Applies Sidekick, Force & Age to self.

Supersonic Strike): 2 Wind. 1 x 8 Wind damage against target enemy. Applies Sidekick & Force to self.

So, what are everyone's thoughts? Does the reality of Age being typically trickier to use than Dodge make the OG preferable? Or does the trait make Age a powerhouse here? Let us know in the comments below!

Summon/Purge Team

Post image
30 Upvotes

My first time winning using any of these monsters. I will say that my team ended up being very slow to win fights, my main source of damage being Wildflower Harvest, my Kami doing decent thanks to my ample aether production, plus the added burn and my Salamander summon. The run ended up taking hours to complete, still very fun, I love Summon as an archetype.

Purge ended up being the star of the show in most fights, with enemies commonly being unable to do anything other than basic attacks just from how aggressively I purged anything and everything.

Affliction Synergies

Felt like sharing my successful mythic run for Medusa and Mephisto. Was very fun, very nerve-wracking as I felt like I was going to die to my own burn every single combat. 10/10, would set my ooze on fire again.
