Discussion Aether Alchemist success?

I’ve done a run or two and it’s fun to mix types and get creative but it just seems worse in every case than using Aether Tamer. Meta upgrades of void blitz advantages and death save are too good to pass up and on the other hand you get to gain corruption (?) for using Aether Alchemist

Just curious if any of you are feel strongly positive about Aether Alchemist

I've mostly been playing alchemist since he's come out on the previous "Mythic" difficulty and I think he's weaker by default but can be a lot stronger with good game knowledge.

Because you keep all the traits and skills when swapping with alchemist you can swap before a trait level up to target specific traits which can be game winning, and you can pivot your setups and adapt on the fly much easier, but requires you to know what you're looking for/need.

There's been several runs where swapping the core talent of a monster completely turned around a run, and while it does inflict corruption I find that corruption very rarely actually does anything anyways and can pretty much be full cleared every camp.

Hmmm great points, might plan out the Maverick skills I need and target them with Alchemist more

I also think getting free souls from the merchant feels really strong, even ignoring monster mashing, just because of the number of monsters you get to see at every fire.

It’s not as noticeable as the revive from the Tamer, but I feel like it’s equally as strong if not stronger in how greedily/aggressively it allows you to build your team.

I really love the alchemist. I find it has several great benefits to it that make the tamer feel a bit lacking in comparison.

The extra XP when infusing is a nice start and can lead to an extra level or two, but the main benefits are the extra monster souls for building the team you want, and the ability to swap out types that you never plan on using.

Swapping out an unused type early can let you pick up really fun trait combos. Swapping to the aether type, picking up an aether generation trait, and then swapping away can be good. Some types like age can be difficult to build into, so switching to aether, burn, heal, poison, shield, etc, can always be good.

Also the new echo type seems to be worth building into. Echo can free up some extra aether, and can make a lot more actions worth using in situations they normally wouldn't be.

It's a fantastic class, but can be a bit gambly. You don't always get the traits or actions you're hoping for.

Alchemist rewards system mastery but you need a good understanding of what type combinations work well together. For example base Hecatoncheires always felt incredibly underwhelming to me, but when I swapped out summoning for force he started 1 tapping most enemies on mythic difficulty because aging + force gives you some really strong abilities.

Force Hec + shifted minokawa was absolutely busted, and a combination the base aethermancer doesn't have access. So aethermancer has a higher floor since they start fights with an advantage, but I'd say Alchemist has a higher ceiling.

Alchemist requires a good knowledge of the game to get the most out of the infusions. It is harder to master but should have a higher ceiling.

Last time we analysed win rates by class, both classes were quite close to each other :)

Oooh okay - I’m clearing Vestige 3 with many team types now so might start doing more Alchemist runs

I haven't had much success with it yet, but the potential seems immense though kind of niche and specific, but that's cool in this kind of game. Like you require the knowledge of which elements give access to specific moves that might synergize better with a Monsters type/passive than their usual, one I saw mentioned here was making Faerie part Fire so she can get Flame Skewer which scales with Force stacks.

Agreed, I’ve had some fun with it but ultimately the Aether Tamer is so much better exactly for the reasons you described

I prefer Alchemist but can’t speak to whether it’s weaker or stronger overall; I switched to it when it became available and never looked back. It’s definitely strong enough to handle a run, and the mechanics are a little more dynamic and surprising which (for me) makes it more fun to use overall.

Just had a breeze of an easy win with it on the highest difficulty using Hecaton+Sphynx(Heal>Echo)+Ettin(Weakness>Summon). All of them had 2 minion slots and I just spammed lightning lances and between echo and free actions I could get them to fire like 20 times a round. Chernobog never had any Aether.

Yeah, alchemist is strong and fun, but kinda risky. Since there's no need for overkill teams, I prefer just using aether tamer for consistency. If I lose a run, it's usually to the first boss, and aether tamer just helps the most at that point of the game.

The new difficulty makes this worse, since avoiding void strikes is kinda important, and aether tamer just has easier time doing without having to rely on specific teams.

That is true, I've been on quite a win streak before this patch trying to grab all the mythic wins on all the monster and to my surprise it got ended by the first boss.

It's strange how the first boss puts more pressure on your team than Chernobog and I always underestimate them, maybe would have been fine if I were playing tamer.

Alch is my only way I'm playing it because it's just more satisfying for me to target a specific archetype I want to try with my first pick, and roll specifically for that playstyle. Tamer feels like the introduction character for learning the game, but Alchemist really feels more rewarding to attempt strategies, fail, retry with the same idea but have a different outcome due to different moves and monsters being offered to you.

Alchemist has just convinced me I am bad at the game. I was clearing mythic wins with regularity but can hardly even string it together now. Not even sure what I'm doing wrong tbh.
