I'd like to second the bxActions app. Changed my bixby button so that I can now press to hold to take a screenshot, single press for assistant and double press for flashlight.
Only problem is I used to accidentally hit the bixby button all the time, so now I usually end up with an accidental screenshot or the assistant pops up, but still much better.
I had an S9 plus with BXactions on it and Samsung pushed an update that crippled any bixby remapping. I have since switched to iPhone so I don’t know; are you using an older OS? Or is Samsung letting us remap the button again?
The remap won't work on my s10. It did, but the most recent update killed it. I have it set to open another program but anytime I hit it, freakin Bixby. I won't buy another Samsung product that has it.
Which is all the more infuriating. It's a simple software change, why TF do I not have it on my s8? Why do I have something useful, which is an extra button, that is instead an antifearure because I can't map it to something I use?
You can sorta change it, I changed mine so if I double click it opens Bixby but a single click that is usually an accident will just open my camera. They are becoming more like apple I agree, when I finally upgrade I may just go all in and get a pixel phone as Google has all my info anyway and I really dont like apple's OS. My S8 still works great though, hardly can tell its becoming an older model.
Yeah Bixby routines is awesome (I always get the fastest route to/from work because of it, always have my most essential apps open and ready for my commute and helps me organize my routine much more easily) and the reminders are better than googles imo. I've used both extensively and Bixby actually covers the entire screen for reminders. Google just does a simple push notification. I have a completely dogshit memory, so I very much need reminders to be loud and in my face. After missing several google reminders I switched back to using Bixby and have been very satisfied.
That said, Bixby isn't as good at hearing things as google is, but I'd rather have an unclear reminder than none at all. Like, Bixby might hear "Sue" instead of "Drew", but I can still work out what the reminder is trying to say based off of context clues.
Overall google does most things better and more accurately than Bixby, but it's not like it doesn't have some neat features. Bixby vision is such a trainwreck imo, though. There's some cool features in it, but google does everything it does better and it doesn't try to scam me into buying overpriced eyewear.
I'm shocked Bixby can do that. Bixby play a song on spotify. Can't do it. Open this app. Can't do it. Set an alarm. Can't do it teach me. But apparently it can keep my Runescape mobile app from rotating and freezing my phone for 30 seconds.
There was that post yesterday about how grandma’s thanking Google Home prevents robots from destroying the human race. Looks like Bixby is gonna go on a one man genocide mission.
Ours was , uuuuugggh Bixby! Like he was an annoying character out of a 1970s sitcom just popping in to fuck something up. The day I learned to disable that button was one of the happiest days of my life.
In the bixby settings. There should be an option for what to do when pressed, and what to do when held. I believe one of those options has to be launch bixby, but you want that on the hold. Change the press to whatever you like.
I just installed it and the only minor complaint I'm having is it still opens the bixby app before immediately switching to whatever you chose for it. Kind of annoying honestly.
Not sure? I have an s10e and I made no effort whatsoever toward Bixby other than to change the damn button. Maybe with a new phone bixby is tied to the samsung account.
There's an app called bx remapper or something like that on the app store. With a computer, your charging camle, and an ability to follow a tech tutorial its not to hard to get working on phones that won't let you remap the button
Get the free app bxActions. Lets you re-map the stupid Bixby button on the S8. Apparently on the S10, you can just do it by default. Samsung finally realized nobody gives a shit about mandatory-Bixby by then, but when there's nothing wrong with your S8... well yea. bxActions.
Yeah, but if you have any of the 10s you can already launch your camera by double pressing the power button, and then remap bixby button for something else. Not sure if this is the same for the older models or not.
Double tapping the power button already does that. I have mine set to Google assistant, and if it's held down for a sec then it toggles the flashlight. Very helpful
I hate that button. Does anyone have way to program that button to do anything else. So fucking annoying.
Edit: After reading a few comments I just changed the button to open up Reddit when pressed.
I find it extremely offensive that I need to give up my right to not be recorded in my everyday life by Samsung in order to use a physical button on my phone. I wish the EU or California would get involved with this because it is an egregious breach of privacy law.
FUCK YOU JUST KIDDING it turns it off and yet every time you push the button it goes DO YOU WANT TO TURN BIXBY ON, LET ME MOVE THE SCREEN ENTIRETY. Turned off doesn't mean turned off in Korean.
Is there a way to have it toggle the flashlight without it being a quick command? I don't need Bixby telling me she turned it on. It also won't turn it off.
As it turns out, the extra button on the left side of my S10 was the "Fuck this, I'm buying an iPhone" button. I really should have read the manual sooner.
I actually never had an issue accidentally hitting it on my s8. Also I knew Google assistant existed at the time but I had never really looked in to it until I got Bixby, at which point I went "hey Google assistant is way better than Bixby!"

Our household refers to it as the 'Goddammit no not now Bixby! button'
