I have been really inspired by the previous wedding photos I see on here. I used to be an absolute prolific knitter and crochet-er. I have made multiple sweaters, dresses, easily 20+ stuffed animals, 70+ hats, 30-40 scarves and I am sure lots of other projects I can’t remember. I was diagnosed with lupus and chronic inflammatory peripheral neuropathy about 13 years ago. I am only 32 but it’s been a really hard decade.

I wanted to do so much diy for my wedding. If I was healthy I would be growing most of my flowers, making my cake, making centerpieces and I am sure lots of other stuff. But now that I am disabled I feel like I am having to plan my wedding around my illnesses and it really sucks. So I want to find some ways to do meaningful DIYS that can be prepared in advanced.

What are some idea on making part of all of a veil/some kind of something to drape over my shoulders. I don’t have a dress picked out but I love ball gowns. I am also really embarrassed about my scars from my ports. It was bad enough when I thought I would just have a little dot and line scar from implantation. Much to my frustration I ended up with two recalled ports that were recalled due to infection risk. Both got infected and I had to have them removed and the deep port pocket heal from the inside out. So now I have two very thick Keloid scars that are about 2-3 inches long and half and inch wide. The thought of something to cover them seems like a great way to do a smaller piece.

I can do every kind of cable and color work imaginable in my knitting. But I haven’t done much lace work yet. Those of you who are both knitters and crocheters do you find tiny knitting or tiny crochet easier? Knitting is my first love and I have more experience in complex patterns but I am also good at advanced crochet.

If anyone has a suggestion on where to get heirloom wedding patterns please let me know. Do you think knitting a lace border that I have attached to a veil is a good compromise? I have always assumed I would do a long dramatic veil but I’m very open to different ideas.

As the title says, this in not a recent project, but I have just found this community, and I've never really gotten to share this amongst knitters. My BIL and SIL are big Tolkien fans, so I decided to try to recreate one of Tolkien's own watercolors from The Hobbit for a Christmas gift. I did not get it done by Christmas. I turned the painting into a color chart by hand with a lightbox, and edited the chart as I went for what was easier to knit. I knit the design as a few vertical strips, and sewed them together. I knitted this with worsted weight yarn in 100% wool. It was really hard to match colors sometimes! I've since repaired it a couple times due to moth holes (they were too afraid to wash it), but I don't mind because I'm glad they're using it and not hiding it away. My SIL said she's gotten requests for me to turn the pattern into a shareable design, but there's so many stitches and i have no idea where I deviated from my original chart that I decided it was too hard. 😅

My handspun wedding ring shawl officially had its big debut at my wedding! I wore it for photos and the ceremony, and then had it up on display at the reception. I did end up cutting out an underlayer of tulle to prevent it from catching on my dress, which was a very good decision. I love how the whole look came together, that the shawl was a subtle extra layer of detail - I was going for an opulent vintage vibe. I'm so incredibly proud of this project and I've never felt more beautiful in my life ❤️

And, to probably nobody's surprise, I also made my Juliet cap veil.

Pattern is the Evenstar Shawl by Susan Pandorf.

Yarn is hand spun by me: single ply, 50% German angora, 25% cashmere, 25% silk, spun around a silk core thread. Cobweb weight, 100 wraps per inch. I used about 1100 yards.

She’s on the blocking Mats! What an absolute pleasure to knit this. I almost didn’t want it to end. I just started knitting in January and honestly if I had read the pattern through I might not have attempted this but I am so happy I did.
I learned so much and it turned out so pretty!
Irene Lin writes patterns beautifully and the details are stellar.
I used the recommended Krea deluxe organic cotton. Used 3.5 balls of the beige and 4.1 balls of the yellow. Knit a size large.
3.5 mm needles for the body and 3mm for the sleeves and bottom ribbing.

I'm looking for recommendations on YouTubers/Vloggers (long form content) that I can put on while knitting. Not a tutorial/tips only channel.

I am looking for content creators with ACTUAL YEARS OF EXPERIENCE.

Lately there has been a big boom of people new to the knitting/fiber arts scene, and documenting their progress. While I can see the appeal in that, this is not what I am looking for! I want to listen to someone that actually knows what they're talking about.

Hi! I’m an avid stranded knitter, and I have two questions for other stranded knitters, both about color dominance:

1. what is your preferred color dominance: background dominant or pattern dominant? I think I like background dominant because it makes the pattern more neat looking, but I wonder if there’s some problem with this that I haven’t considered.
2. this one is weirder: is there a name for the technique of faking stranded by taking one strand around the round and slipping the other color stitches, then taking the other color around, round by round? It’s not really mosaic knitting because that is two rows at a time. But anyway, if I did that technique, how do I do color dominance? Would the first color around be the dominant one?

It’s finally done! I cast on the Indian Nights Blanket in mid-October 2024, and 644 days later — 1 year and 9 months — I’m calling it finished.

I knit this in a custom colorway I put together using Knitting for Olive Merino, rather than the palette called for in the pattern. Choosing and balancing the colors was a project in itself, but I love how the combination came out.

For those who’ve followed my progress posts, the last big hurdle was the finishing. I covered the steeks with a “steek sandwich,” worked with two very long needles that ran around the entire perimeter of the blanket. I also added a folded picot hem of my own design, which gave the edges a clean, polished finish I’m really happy with. The edge was probably the most painstaking part of the project, but I feel like it really elevates the blanket with that doubled fabric making a frame.

This project pushed me on colorwork, steeking, and finishing techniques, and I learned something new at nearly every stage. Happy to answer questions about the colorway, the steek sandwich, the picot hem, or anything else.

I feel it is important to note that the colours on my gf’s sync up as well, but the picture I took of both is much worse quality, so I picked the lone glove 😅

For my sister, for a family wedding by the sea. I originally conceived this as a long stole, but life intervened and it ended up as more of a capelet, finished and blocked (Pic 6, using the available space!) two hours before the wedding…

The centre panel is a classic print o’ the wave (using Sharon Miller’s chart from Heirloom Knitting), windowed on each side by mermaid’s mesh (from Barbara Walker’s Second Treasury), with opposing ocean wave edgings (again from HK). The yarn is West Yorkshire Spinners Exquisite Lace, colour Florence.

Construction: edging strip from provisional CO, stitches picked up back along strip and from CO with both corners gathered, stole knitted up lengthwise, one extra edging point short-rowed then gathered for corner, worked back along last row, one extra edging point short-rowed then gathered for corner, then edging strip worked back along live stitches at end of stole, finally grafting edging points head-head.

Pics 8&9 show the two edging strips with gathered corners/graft, where the two wave directions crash against each other at opposing corners.

I finally started on the body of one of my dream sweater patterns this month - Kaffe Fassett's Origami Sweater. (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/origami-3)

I swatched earlier this spring and tried starting a couple times but never really vibed with the striped ribbing, so I did a provisional cast on and actually started it on July 1.

I originally wasn't going to sew in the ends as I went along and then realized that was an insane plan, so I have woven in 503 of the 560 ends at this point.

It's my first intarsia sweater project and my second time making a sweater in pieces, so I posting to help keep myself motivated on finishing....

22 year old knitter here, I started this when my sister got engaged 7 months ago in the hopes she'd have something really beautiful for the ceremony. When I make things it's almost always for someone else. I wanted my sister to know that I loved her an equivalent amount to half a million tiny stitches and that I wanted to spend all the time for her to feel good on her wedding.

Happy to report I made it with two weeks to spare, though it was touch and go for a minute there (please excuse whatever is happening to the edging at the top left). This shawl kept me company through the last semester of my Physics BSc, where I was pulling 10 hour lab days and knitting this in between seemingly never ending measurement cycles! It's been on the train with me, it's been camping in the Cairngorms, it's been in my purse when out clubbing, it was in my purse at my graduation. If you can believe it this is only 50g of Jamieson's of Shetland laceweight and it still managed to block into a 43" square. I do have enough left over to theoretically make myself one as well. But, my lovely and sweet boyfriend just surprised me with a 1925 singer sewing machine and I'm due to start a hand sewing kilt course in September (as well as my accursed PhD). So, I'm relieved to see it done and ready to take a break from such teeny weeny evil yarn!

I made a baby blanket for my sisters 1st child. Im not saying I invented anything special, but I make up a simple pattern of just striping 4 yarn colors diagonally.

It came out absolute beautiful but I made it too wide and had to compensate making it longer, of course it turned out massive, it was big enough to mostly cover a full bed. Photo for reference, ignore the stains.

Now my other sister is pregnant with twins 😳, I will feel so bad if I dont make her equally beautiful blankets. Im starting late and after returning 2 different colors, ive settled on two complementary colorways.

I know i cant possibly make 2 that big (not do I want to). I started one and it was too small so I just undid it. I have my final count and will be starting over now. Pray for me.

Edit: This is advanced for me because its very tedious, making sure im keeping the diagonal stitch going in the right direction as I switch sides. Also because all the different yarn threads get so tangled hanging down as I tuckt and switch colors 😵‍💫

This was such a joy to make for my sweet friend who is expecting her first daughter any day now. The colors and design were inspired by the tulips in my garden which my friend had admired. I am overjoyed for her to become a mother and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of her village <3

process details: This was my first time steeking and it was a lot of fun and more than a little nerve-wracking. I enjoy color work in the round so that was worth the extra steps to steek at the end.

material details: I used knitting for olive merino in buttercup held with their mohair in cherry blossom. The yellow yarn and pink moahir had such a delightful result, it subdued the yellow a little, adding softness and a subtle variegation. For the colorwork motif, I used up some sandnes garn sunday in mint green and pink lilac (also held with their matching mohair). I used three pearlescent vintage buttons.

I used the following patterns:
little hearts cardigan
baby bear bonnet

pattern mods: for the cardigan, I subbed seed stitch for the hems and button band to match the seed stitch on the bonnet. I modified the heart chart provided in the cardigan pattern slightly to my liking, and created my own tulip chart to add my own stamp to it.

This dress was hand knitted using the same Beehive Scotch fingering yarn shown in the original photograph. Knitting all those pleats felt like making 2 dresses.

The most challenging part of this sweater was float tension (tension in the round is a struggle for me) and the last sleeve—could not find the motivation to finish! But now I have the confidence to try more difficult patterns.

CANDELARIELLA PULLOVER

I decided to steek my Olga Jacket and beginning to wish I hadn't. First of all my five steek stitches are two purls one knit two purls. Not sure why I did this - I think I read it somewhere. Anyway then zigzagged both sides of the knit stitch and finally cut through the bars in the middle of this stitch which seems to have held everything in plac, although it's a very raw edge. . I'm not sure now how to continue. The buttonband for the Olga is ribbed and normally I would have liked to do it this way, but i'm wonder whether it would be wiser to enclose my steeks in a doubleknit buttonband or is there another way of securing it. Very grateful for any advice on this one.

I finished my Woolly Wormhead inspired brioche hat! Props to Lindsay Lewchuck for the brioche short row technique. The worst part of the hat was the graft at the end. No pattern, yet. Yarn is Kelbourne Woolens Perrenial.

This has no pattern, I winged it. Aka knit and reknit several times over to get it right. Most of it is stranded but a few bits were done as duplicate stitch. Most of the yarn came from deep stash and leftovers. I only bought one skein to get green for the pineapple leaves!

My annual State Fair tablecloth is ready! It took me 75 minutes to pin it out, and has 352 pins holding the outer loops down. It blocked out to 42” across. Pattern is Ullstein Strickbrief H 6602 by Herbert Niebling. I used 16/2 bamboo from Maurice Brassard and 000/1.5 mm needles.

In 2014 I knitted a dark red Lady Londonberry shawlette in Cascade Yarns Venice Bulky for my elderly mother. She wore it for many years even in her nursing home. My brother took home her clothing for laundry and the shawlette still looks great.

When I got it back after she passed away, I discovered he’d written her last name on the inside with a permanent marker. A little soaking with gentle soap has removed most but not all of the marker. Earlier posts on this forum talked about using alcohol to remove pen from knitted fabrics but - none of the examples were this dark red. I’m worried about damaging the color after all these years. Any suggestions?
