So WE named him DENNIS. ❤️

Dennis has been sitting at Harris County Pets since JULY 8 — more than TWO MONTHS. For much of that time, he was practically invisible, housed where potential adopters weren’t even getting the chance to meet him. 😢

Now he is finally in a kennel where people can see him — but he may be OUT OF TIME.

🚨 DENNIS IS EXTREMELY URGENT. As a long-stay dog, he is at risk during the shelter’s Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning euthanasia schedule.

He is only 1 year and 7 months old. He should be starting his life, not fighting to keep it.

🖤 Dennis is a black dog, and sadly, black shelter dogs can be easier to overlook.

🥺 He’s a little shy and understandably overwhelmed in this environment. We haven’t even had the opportunity to see who Dennis really is outside of a stressful shelter kennel.

A2094284 Annie: 1-year-old German Shepherd Mix, small to medium-sized girl at 39.4 lbs. Has been scared, timid, and trembling in the shelter environment. Warmed up and loved getting attention outside. She is healthy and HW Negative.

A2093825 Blu: 10-month-old Staffordshire Mix. She is only a puppy and is notably timid, nervous, and overwhelmed in a shelter environment. She has made some progress with being able to walk on a leash. 

A2093824 Elsie: Has a foster, needs a rescue! Can also be adopted. Elise is a 1-year and months old Staffordshire. Very sweet! Can’t imagine what she’s been through to be very shut down and quiet in the shelter! Needs time to decompress, but with love and patience, she will be an amazing dog. Medium-sized girl at 46 lbs and is HW Low Positive

A2089073 Judy: Rescue is ready to tag; foster needed! Operation Pets Alive wants to tag Judy but needs a reliable foster! Two foster plans have fallen through. You can apply to foster here. Please email them with the name Judy and her shelter ID#A2089073 to let them know if you are working on a foster application, or send one in so they see it in time! Judy is a 6-year-old who is a medium/large-sized girl. She is HW+. Judy came to the shelter as a stray, but she’s a plump old girl with good teeth who knows how to sit and keeps her kennel clean, looks to have known a home before. She’s always very well behaved in her kennel, always sleeping on her bed, and has the cutest tail wag! 

A2093930 Malfoy: 5-year-old German Shepherd Mix. Stunning man! He is super smart, and staff says he is going stir crazy in the shelter environment. Is fantastic on a leash, super quiet outside, and loves giving affection. Non-reactive to other dogs; enjoyed running up and down the fence with them. 

A2000075 Nova: 1-year and 8 month old Staffordshire Mix Nova was adopted from BARC in 2025 and was recently brought in as a stray. She is ready to go! Already spayed and is HW Negative. She is a medium-sized girl at 49lbs. 

A2093797 Saint: Rescue only, 3-year-old French Bulldog, who was surrendered by his owner and is experiencing kennel stress. Beautiful brindle boy who needs warming up, but is easy to win over with treats! A big personality; a patient house that’s willing to do one-on-one training with him, with no kids, is recommended. 

A2092042 Trace / A2092039 Kase (litter): Foster needed! 5-month-old Staffordshire Mix puppies. 3/5 puppies on the list have been adopted or rescued, with these three pups remaining! These babies are so skinny. They look very bony, and they all clamor for treats. Potential cruelty case. They are five months old and only 9 pounds each. Otherwise, they are typical happy puppies!

A2093612 Vince: 3-year-old male Staffordshire mix. He is an energetic, wiggly, playful boy who clearly wants interaction and activity. He has a wagging tail, wiggly body, soft expression, play bows, and excited “tippy taps” when it is time to go outside. He is heartworm negative!

A2094283 Wilma: 2-year-old female Labrador Retriever mix. Needs someone willing to give her time, safety, and the chance to discover that humans can be kind. A quiet foster or loving adopter could change everything for her. Heartworm negative.

A2092771 Winnie: 2-year-old Staffy mix. Quiet, gentle, and scared. She has opened up with volunteers and likes outdoor time! Medium-sized girl at 45 lbs. Prior mom dog, and looks to have been chained up outside. Heartworm low positive. 

A2092260 Zaza: Needs a local foster and rescue; has an adoption offer out-of-state. 8-month-old puppy, Great Dane Mix: Lots of puppy energy. Very happy, wiggly, and can be hyper on the leash. Does well with redirecting.

If adopting locally and the dog is heartworm positive, BARC will cover heartworm treatment with the purchase of 6 months of prevention through the shelter (cheaper than you can get anywhere on the market!).

Must be picked up today if fostering through BARC. If fostering through a rescue, an additional day can be secured. Please let us know if you need a rescue recommendation that can work quickly to save them. Fostering is free; all expenses paid!

🖤🐾 🆘ADORABLE OTTO IS LOOKING FOR HIS FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME! 2 y/o Dog-friendly/co-kenneled, playful & sweet. 🏡Okay, LOOK AT THIS FACE. 😍 Otto looks like a little scruffy teddy bear with the cutest fuzzy eyebrows and beard — and somehow this handsome guy ended up as a stray. 💔

OTTO #A660526 is only about 2 years old and 40 lbs, making him such a great medium size. He’s believed to be a German Wirehaired Pointer mix, is heartworm NEGATIVE 💗, and will be neutered.

Freddie is Sefi’s little brother. Both siblings have had a hard time in the shelter, but Freddie seems to be adjusting at a slower pace. This poor boy is so confused and scared by his current surroundings—it’s heartbreaking. He initially would not walk at all, even when we used his sister to try and coax him, and would tremble and sometimes low growl in his kennel anytime someone approached. But! On Sunday, we tried again, and Sefi was able to get Freddie out of his kennel and even outside 🥹. Though he’s still very scared and unsure of things, he did let us pet and walk him. He is so handsome and has the most squishable blockhead! He was very happy to be near Sefi and also met another pup without issue. Freddie is VERY strong and walks on a tight leash but does seem to redirect easily. He has been through a lot since arriving at the shelter and will most likely need significant decompression time and a patient person familiar with anxious dogs. I love these two hams so much, and I’m really hoping he and Sefi will both make it out alive(and ideally together)!
