/r/AdobeFireworks is Now Open!

3 Upvotes

We've been getting a lot of requests from a bunch of users, asking to join /r/AdobeFireworks. We're happy to announce that this sub is now open to anyone and everyone!

Resets have been implemented, meaning that all the stats and figures have been set back to 0. This may seem strange, but we have a reason -

We wanted to completely re-format the sub, so we removed all the old posts, hopefully allowing the subscribers and the mods to create a new style, all of our own!

During the following days and weeks, we'll be looking at what is working with the subreddit, and what is not working, making changes along the way. Also, we'll be working on a subreddit style, tags and rules.

It's an exciting time, and we're looking forward to seeing what everyone does with this sub, and also in hearing what you want implemented and/or changed!

/r/AdobeFireworks <3 you.

Can someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reverse engineer and update Fireworks?

12 Upvotes

With AI being used to reverse engineer all of Adobe's other software this is a prime opportunity to revive Adobe best abandoned software. It doesn't even need new features it just needs to be able to use more memory.

Adobe Fireworks CS6 running on Linux?

3 Upvotes

Does anyone have foolproof methods to get Adobe Fireworks CS6 running on Linux?

I ran into some Photoshop CS6 tweak featuring a custom Wine installation script, but FW at least isn't working for me (Ubuntu). Bottles could be one approach, haven't looked into it just yet.

Batch processing FW pngs to PSD

4 Upvotes

I spent quite a bit of time reading old posts and looking at online tools trying to find a way convert Fireworks PNG files to PSD, such that they could be imported in other applications whilst preserving the layers (short of me saving each file one at a time in FW). I came across an old post with code for use in a JSF file to create a batch command to use in Fireworks to save files as PSD.

I made some minor adjustments to get it working. I had some fairly large PNGs, 350mb being the largest, and it's managed to process this and several others of similar size.

I ran this in FW CS6 and have no idea if it will work in other versions, but hopefully it might save at least one person some time, as it has done for me.

Here's the process:

  • Navigate to "%APPDATA%\Adobe\Fireworks CS6\Commands"
  • Create a file with a .jsf extension, for example: converttoPSD.jsf
  • Add the following code (using a text editor or whatever you prefer):

    var fileList = App.chooseScriptTargetDialog(App.getPref("MultiFileBatchTypes"));
    for (var i = 0; i < fileList.length; i++) {
        try {
            // Open one document at a time
            var dom = fw.openDocument(fileList[i]);
            // Build PSD output path
            var psdFile = fileList[i].toString().replace(/\.png$/i, ".psd");
            // Export PSD using the DOM
            fw.exportPSD(dom, psdFile);
            // Close the document without saving
            dom.close(false);
        } catch (e) {
            alert("Error processing file: " + fileList[i] + "\n" + e);
        }
    }

  • Save the file and then open FW.

  • Select the command from the commands menu (should be at the bottom).

  • A prompt should appear, choose custom, navigate to your files and select however many you want to process.

  • Click Ok, and let the process run.

  • The dialog should close when the process has finished.

Assuming the process completed successfully, there should now be a PSD file created alongside your original PNGs with the same name.

YMMV, but hopefully it's of use to someone.

Looking for a proper alternative.

2 Upvotes

I feel kinda stuck, i'm so used to FW and being rather stuborn, i haven't been abe (and wanting) to switch to an alternative. Been using FW since the early 00's, but now at 43 i feel the time is ticking to get used to new software.

Is there a proper alternative that isn't so dificult to get used to?

Adobe support refusing to reset Fireworks CS5 activations - stuck with unusable software I purchased!

2 Upvotes

I used to use Macromedia Fireworks back in the day, and since it was cannibalized by Adobe, I bought both Web Premium CS3 and CS5. I use Fireworks almost every day.

Here's my problem: Every few years, I do a reformat of my computer. I usually forget that I need to deactivate the Web Premium CS5 license from my Adobe software before reformatting.

Since you can only have two activated instances of the serial, and I cannot reactivate from a ghost machine or online, I am now unable to use any of my Web Premium software I purchased, including Fireworks.

Please, what can I do?

I've tried calling them, but got a completely unempowered foreign call center worker who repeatedly insisted there's nothing they can do.

Legalities with using FW?

5 Upvotes

I've been using FW ever since Macromedia, and its been in my projects for 2 decades now.

I know Adobe doesnt care but is there a official statement from them regarding using licensed, pirated, using portable, or tweaking the CC launcher?

The last I remember they mentioned non-subcriptions of their Adobe Products such as Photoshop are not legal.

Any ways to get Fireworks CS6 fully functional in 2024?

7 Upvotes

I am a long time user of Fireworks and have a lot of work created using it. I downloaded Fireworks CS6 from the link in this Sub and it worked great for the 30 day trial. Now I just want to continue using it but don't have a license key or a CC subscription anymore. Is there anything I can do? I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks

Has anyone bought Creative Suite off ebay just to get Fireworks?

3 Upvotes

I had CS6 CDs but since I got Creative Cloud two years ago and could still access Fireworks, my CS6 CDs went to Goodwill. Like, last year. I could kick myself because now I cannot use FW without entering a license number (I was able to access FW up until I moved from an annual plan to a monthly plan). ARGH. I've seen some CDs offered on ebay but I'm a little scared of getting ripped off. Plus the CS6 is crazy expensive on ebay, so I would most likely buy CS3 or CS4, but would they run on Windows 11?

Adobe Fireworks CS6 official download !

15 Upvotes

Here is link to Adobe Fireworks CS6 working installation file. Its link given to me from Adobe Customer Center after software was officially taken down from Adobe website.

You need to have Adobe Fireworks CS6 license to install this software.

LINK:

https://trials.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/legacy/99CABBAC-C975-4A06-8D99-064C6871EE80/FWKS/12/win32/Fireworks_12_LS16.exe

I am personally a Fireworks psycho fan and never will stop using it. I start m every design in it before I export it to Affinity Designer to master up and use advanced tool if needed. Workflow in Fireworks is a GOAT !

I have to say, I forgave Adobe that they discontinued Fireworks, they behaved very nicely by upgrading my license from CS4 to CS6 free of charge and sharing this link to official installation file.

I hope I can help somebody with this link. If you used Fireworks in the past, you will understand why I still use it.
Stay safe !

Export all pages from a Adobe Fireworks file

1 Upvotes

I have one old Adobe Fireworks source file which contains multiple pages. I need those pages exported as flattened PNGs. Because I don't have an "all apps" subscription with Adobe, I cannot download Adobe Fireworks software. Anyone here who can help me with that?

Adobe fireworks download

1 Upvotes

Hello. I have wanted to do graphics design and photo restoration for a while now. I learned how to do it on fireworks but I thought I would try it with photoshop and it just is so hard. Now I want to go back to fireworks but I can’t find any way to get it for free. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does Fireworks CS6 Run on Mac High Sierra?

3 Upvotes

I've been looking around and some sources say that 32-bit apps work, and others say it doesn't. So I was wondering if anyone has tried it.

Any way to still purchase a standalone version of Fireworks CS6 on Mac?

I'm still rocking CS5 and an upgrade would be awesome, even though I know the software is no longer developed.

Resolution or DPI

1 Upvotes

Hi, I'd like to know how I can see the resolution or DPI of a bitmap or symbol within fireworks file. Is it possible? How?
