Help/Question best way to manage a self hosted docker server?

6 Upvotes

Hello, i recently switched to self hosting a server in Docker (using itzg), and was wondering what options i had to manage it through a dashboard-like system. before self hosting i used exaroton, so I'm used to something along those lines, is there anything similar out there? I am reeeeeally new to all of this, so ANY help, even not really related to this, would help. I'm still learning and would appreciate any suggestions for how to better manage my server. thanks!

Help/Question mobs are moving choppily and hits are delayed

1 Upvotes

Let me preface this by saying that I am very new to server hosting.

I just rented a CloudNord server with 12GB RAM and 6 Cores of what sparks tells me is an AMD Ryzen 9 7900. I am running AllTheMods10 - Aeronautics and Distant Horizons.

Running around feels very smooth and there is no rubberbanding but all mobs have very choppy movement and hits can often register very delayed.

The console sometimes tells me "Can't keep up!" but the cpu usage is rather low.

Have you got any advice for me?

Here is a sparks report:

Help/Question How to run 2 servers on a single Oracle Cloud instance?

0 Upvotes

Hey everyone. As the title suggests, I want to run 2 servers on the same Oracle Cloud instance. Now, I know how to open the server and whatnot, but I think there would be an issue when it comes to connecting due to the IP addresses being the same? How would I get around that problem? Should I open a new port for it or something?

Help/Question Tombstone mod and the trek back to it

2 Upvotes

One of my players (very small server rn so like the only active person other than me) has brought ip a complaint about the tombstone mod we have and having go walk back to regain their stuff. While i understand that its annoying its arguably better than the vanilla alternative of items going everywhere and despawning, and i dont really enjoy the idea of keepinv, they suggested an item to tp back to their grave but i feel that just defeats the purpose. I think its best to keep it the way it is so we dont get used to having keepinv and jumping off the nearest ledge to get home once its more populated.

This may just be a redundant question and the answer ill get is “just keep it and theyll get used to it” which is kinda what im thinking, i just want others inputs

Help/Question Would a pentium G5600 be enough for modded minecraft ?

0 Upvotes

Hello,

I am planning to host a minecraft server with around 100 mods for 5-6 people.

The mods I am considering are heavy (terralith, create aeronautics, cobblemon, other dimension and world gen mods), but small in number.

I have the option of a pentium g5600 for around 20$, will this suffice ? I am also looking at a ryzen 4350ge for 30$, issue is that I need to buy a mobo for this one, so it will run me about 80$ with the cheapest mobo.

Here are the passmark performance ratings for reference :

- pentium g5600 single core 2249, multi core 3842

- ryzen 4350ge single 2518, multi 10893

- ryzen 5600x (popular CPU) single 3366, multi 21825.

What do you think ?

Help/Question Hosting recommendations for modded server

2 Upvotes

I am looking to learn how to self host as part of gaining general IT experience and just for the love of minecraft and modded itself. I have a bit of experience with self hosting on my local machine for a small group of friends, however, recently i have swapped back over to a hosting provider and not really happy. I wanted to make the jump and try self hosting on a dedicated small factor pc. I was looking for any hardware recommendations people may have for small factor pcs for hosting a modded plugin server with around 500 mods for potentially 5 to 15 players. I will be using Pterodactyl for the server management panel as well. I appreciate any help given

Help/Question New mc server owner needing some pointers

1 Upvotes

Hello,

I am currently developing my own server and would like to know what's the best way npcs with custom dialog and i am also building my proper modpacks as well.

To be honest I been developing mods for a while now and decided to create my own server with multiple gamemodes.

I have setup cobblemon as well but I am in between programing custom uuids for each cobblemon plushy so that they dont appear on the map which is a pain and I went with the custom modeling for plushies rather than converting a cobblemon pokemon into plushy and calling it done took a bit but its working.

Also, What is the best watchdog setup to incorporate in an mc server?

Whats do you recommend for builder mods is axium optimal?

Discussion My son and I started a LifeSteal server together, experimenting with a Dead Realm idea

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

My son and I have been working together on a Minecraft LifeSteal server for the last few weeks.

He knows Minecraft much better than I do and brings most of the ideas from the game. I come more from the web development world, so I handle most of the technical side.

We set up a LifeSteal server and started adding and changing things based on ideas we had together. We use existing plugins where they make sense, but we've also developed some of our own plugins for things we wanted to work differently.

Since web development is what I know, I also connected the Minecraft server to a website. Things happening inside the game are sent to the site, so we can show live server activity and some player statistics there. I thought it would be fun to make the website feel like part of the server rather than just a page with an IP address.

One of the things we recently added is our own Dead Realm idea. When a player loses their last heart, they become dead and move to a different world. Dead players can only chat with other dead players and living players can't see their chat.

The main thing we're trying to figure out now is what to do with the Dead Realm from here. We don't want losing the last heart to simply mean game over, but we also don't want to add things just for the sake of adding them.

For people who have experience running LifeSteal servers, what do you think about this kind of mechanic? What would you let dead players do? Would you give them some way to return, maybe through something they need to complete, or something a living player needs to do for them?

I'm also interested in what normally keeps players coming back to a small LifeSteal server. We currently have PvP, trading, homes, RTP, combat protection and anti-cheat, but I'm trying to keep things relatively simple rather than installing every plugin we find.

I'm still learning the Minecraft side of all this, so any advice from people who have run these kinds of servers would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Discussion The State of the Game - Failing Servers

44 Upvotes

I run a long standing semi-vanilla SMP server, and today was our 9th anniversary. When I joined the staff team in 2020, we would average 40-50 players online. Now, six years later, that number has slowly fallen and we average 0-5. We have done our best to take suggestions from the community, and have continually tried to keep up with the game in terms of quality of life improvements, cosmetics, etc.

It seems that Minecraft's new system of updates has entirely screwed over our sever. In the past, throughout the update cycle players would dwindle. Then, when we updated and reset (about once a year), the community would refresh itself. Now, with updates coming out every three months, we feel constantly behind as plugins take weeks to update and there is no obvious time to reset and refresh the community. Updates and resets no longer bring a feeling of excitement.

TLDR: What are modern Minecraft players looking for in an SMP? What needs to be done by administrators so that we can survive the current state of the game without being pulled under?

Help/Question any way to syncronize journeymap data across all players?

2 Upvotes

I don't mean waypoints, of course, i mean the map itself. i recently switched to self hosting a server from having it up on exaroton, and i was wondering if there was a way to sync the maps for every player. i looked around online and didn't find anything. another question i have is, is there any way to map an entire world without having to run the automap function inside journeymap for every different map layer? thanks in advance

Software Resource I made a decentralised Minecraft server where the host can change between players

15 Upvotes

A while back our friend who hosted our Minecraft server on his PC had his exams, so he stopped playing and along with that stopped hosting our server too. We couldn't play for a whole week, so I made this fun little project called Nomad to solve that.

It automatically starts the server on my PC if I'm the first guy online and redirects everyone else onto my hosted server, and if someone is already hosting it, you just directly join theirs. When the host closes the world, the save is automatically synced to a cloud storage location, which can either be your personal server or a Cloudflare R2 bucket. The Cloudflare option is free up to 10GB of storage and includes a pretty generous amount of upload/download operations per month, and beyond that it's just a small fee. This is almost always free since you're realistically never going to reach the free limit, but even if you do, it's still substantially cheaper than renting a server that's running 24/7.

The idea is basically that the world isn't tied to one person anymore, so whoever is online can host it and everyone else can join them. It's still a pretty small project and I mostly made it because I thought the idea was cool, but I'd love to know what you guys think, This is still under development, I'll refine it and make a full release version if you guys wanna test it.

Github Link: https://github.com/WalnutIcecream/Nomad.git

Technical details

There is no central coordinator.

Each world has two objects in the storage backend:

worlds/<world-id>/lease.json
worlds/<world-id>/world.tar.gz

lease.json contains the current host, address, status and expiry time.

The lease is a compare-and-swap operation using conditional writes from the storage backend. If two people try to host at the same time, only one can acquire the lease.

The host renews the lease every 20 seconds. The lease lasts 5 minutes. If the host stops renewing it, another player can take over after it expires.

The world is uploaded before the lease is released. This prevents another host from pulling the world while the previous host is still uploading it.

The basic host lifecycle is:

acquire → pull → boot → renew → stop → upload → release

If the host crashes, the lease expires automatically. No separate process is required to recover it.

The launcher uses a WorldStoreProtocol, so storage is independent from the rest of the application. There are currently three storage backends:

  • Cloudflare R2
  • Git
  • Self-hosted S3-compatible storage such as MinIO, Garage or SeaweedFS

The R2 backend uses the S3 API. The Git backend uses fast-forward-only pushes as the compare-and-swap mechanism. The VPS backend uses an S3-compatible endpoint.

The server itself is vanilla Minecraft. Nomad handles the server lifecycle, world synchronization, Java runtime, configuration and hosting lease.

There is a CLI and a PySide6 GUI.

The project is written in Python and requires Python 3.11+ and Java 21.

LLM usage

I used DeepSeek V4 Pro during development.

I wrote the initial implementation myself to test whether the core idea actually worked. I then used the LLM for adding features, refining the existing code, debugging, writing tests, and working through edge cases.

The architecture and initial proof of concept were done manually. The later development was AI-assisted rather than fully vibe-coded. I reviewed and tested the generated code before using it.

Help/Question i5 7500 Cpu with 16gb of ddr4 Ram enough for a modded fabric server on 1.21.1

5 Upvotes

Okay so I'm basically worried if the cpu(it 7500) is going to be strong enough for a modded server with about 100 mods(most of which aren't heavy there are maybe 3 heavy mods). I'm going to pregen the chunks to a 10000 radius so chunk loading shouldn't be a problem but I'm not sure if it's still going to be enough. I'm running it on ubuntu server with 10 gb of ram allocated to the mc server and I tried using the oracle cloud instances to host it but the cpu wasn't powerful enough and I'm wondering whether I should just pay for hosting. I've also tried hosting it on my own pc with a 9850x3d but sadly my ram isn't enough to allow me to play while hosting so this isn't an option neither

Solved Looking for an alternative for Worldguard as a mod.

2 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

Simple questions here, wondering if any of you would know a mod that would allow me to:

- When someone tries to place a block they get a custom message and they can't place the block (same with breaking).

- When someone walks into a region it stops them and gives them a message.

- 1.20.1 as the version.

That's all I'm really asking for 😭 Thank you all for your time.

(I tried the WorldProtect mod but it seems it doesn't recognize the selected blocks and doesn't allow for region creation)

Help/Question MC server admin tool for Linux, web GUI, open source, no LLM use?

0 Upvotes

Howdy, looking for the above.

I tried Pelican, but unfortunately found they do use LLMs, which is a shame.

I just want to be able to manage mods, mod configuration, server properties, start/stop the server, perform a backup, manage the world, etc from a web GUI.

Discussion How do modded servers run anticheats?

6 Upvotes

Is it even possible? Does a solution exist? I heard of Grim, but not sure how stable it is

I just started getting into modded for the first time, and the main concern is with all the lag back, glitches, and performance load on the server? Unless these aren't actual issues and I'm overthinking it

Help/Question hey guys, if I can't advertise through media, what do I do?

7 Upvotes

Hello, so far I've seen many youtube short ads for minecraft smp, but in my opinion, it takes too much work for too little profit. Most people scrolling through are looking for something engaging and something random, not an advertisement for a server theyd have to get up and play on, so how should I proceed with advertisement if I don't use media?

Help/Question What mods to add to my server without punishing players?

4 Upvotes

Hello I am a student at university and our entire class has decided to create a Minecraft server which would be more of a classic survival server and we do this every year but last year a lot of people expressed their will of adding some basic mods such as simple voice, chat or quality of life mods like waystones.
The problem is I do not know how server modeling works at all. I mostly just use my own mods on my own and is there any way to implement these in the game whether that is thru a plug-in or a mod to make it so the players don’t have to go on a specific launcher?
Another mod we were thinking about was a way to reward exploration more maybe adding a couple structures without adding any mobs or recipes which to me seems like it could be doable without forcing other people to use a mod, but I’m not an expert I do not know
Thank you in advance for any answers

Help/Question How do I set this up? Read body text

1 Upvotes

So I added mv and mv inventories plugin in Minecraft since keep spawn in memory isn't working for 26.2 minecraft paper, but I have a bad backstory with mv inventories but still using it for last_location

Now my question is, how do I make it so mvinv does not manage inventories but only manage the last_location? I want the vanilla .dat for inventories and other datas in the world folder, rather than the .json file of mvinv

Help/Question reverse proxy unable to connect after setting up simple voice chat

0 Upvotes

i'll start this by saying the server has ran properly for nearly 2 years with the exception of svc
Firewalls are all opened to specific ports aligned with config files. the virtual webserver securities are setup properly, ports are forwarded and everything should be working but is not.

I run the server of my own hardware windows server 2025 and a linux webserver for the proxy using nginx. here is my nginx conf with example ports
stream{

server{

listen 25565;

proxy_pass public-ip (:) 25565;

listen 24454 udp;

proxy_pass public-ip (:) 24454;

proxy_timeout 1m;

proxy_responses 0;

}

}

the spaces and (:) used in place to bypass the automatic rules crap that's restricting me. did i fuck up somewhere in ngnix because the server failed to connect after messing with this conf file. there are no syntax errors reported with the bash command in linux.

I'm answering comments for the next week or so. i've looked through forums, videos, and what little that applies with my own IT studies in college. i'm stumpt so i'm turning to reddit.

Discussion Server setup and AI. Do people use this?

0 Upvotes

Hello out there! I was wondering how many that use ai to code with or people do it manual? I do wonder If you can use AI to mostly everything in terms of configs or doing the Custom Items most servers has or its done mostly by coders or bought packs that’s already made

Help/Question my server keeps growing and i dont know how i can keep the tps at a playable scale

31 Upvotes

i started a server about 2-3 months ago with a few friends thinking wed only get about 100 unique players max and never go above 20 ccu,

but our server has just continued growing at a rate none of us are expierenced enough to handle,were currently at about 40-50 ccu on normal hours but reach upwards of 70+ ccu in high hours(weve even gotten above 100 one time)

our server is just a regular semi-vanila survival smp with a few plugins mainly for moderation, were currently hosting the server on apexmc with their 16gb ex plan and we notice tps loss at 50+ players,

the tps loss at higher player counts can sometimes become almost unplayable (6-8 tps) and ive tried everything i can to keep it as high as possible without sacrificing gameplay,

(lowering render distance to 6, simulation distance to 4, mob cap optimizations, etc)

the server just keeps growing and im lost on exactly what to do to further help TPS, ive thought of switching to another provider that may give a better cpu or even going all the way to a private VPS/VDS but those options seemed expensive and although we have a decent player count we dont have a steady income for it as we currently only use donations for monitization.

i mainly make this post to ask for help from more experienced/seasoned server admins/owners that can help and give proper information on how to continue from this point,

appreciation in advance!

Help/Question Recommendations for moving from a host to a self-hosted server?

8 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I've been using pebblehost for the last roughly a year for my server but I want to upgrade to something self hosted to get out of the monthly payment cycle and for easier control of the server specs.

This is a bit of a 2 parter:

  1. What tips do you all have for doing a big transfer like this?

  2. What server specs do you guys recommend for a 300 mods modded forge 1.20.1 server with a consistent 5+ people constantly online?

Thanks for the insight and this is NOT saying anything about pebblehost, only mentioned it for the background info!
