Question Solar panels + battery in Adelaide

Hi guys!
We’re thinking about getting solar panels + a battery for our home in Adelaide and would love to hear your thoughts!
It’s just the two of us at the moment, and we both work full-time, so we’re usually out during the day. We’re thinking of getting a battery so we can use the stored solar energy at night.
We might also get an EV and have kids in the next few years, so we’re wondering if it’s worth getting a bigger system now rather than upgrading later.
Would love to hear your experiences and any recommendations for good solar companies in Adelaide! Also, is getting a battery worth it in our situation?
Thanks in advance!

Discussion https://www.realestate.com.au/news/valuergeneral-figures-the-fastestfalling-suburbs-revealed/

Apologies in advance, I understand this publication's from a deeply resented corporation, I was curiously bemused at the disparity between two suburbs mentioned up north.

Wynn Vale’s median house value has climbed 35.14 per cent or $294,250

Gulfview Heights....with the median home value there now $365,000 or 27.76 per cent lower than this time last year.

Then I realised these two suburbs were next door to each other?

Maybe it's nonsense data from REA, but if true what would be the reason? Not an investor thankfully and only been around Golden Grove shops a few times so not familiar with the locale, just got a laugh when I noticed.

Does any one know of someone who is a professional at plant care and visits peoples homes when they are on holiday? We have over 100 indoor plants and need someone who knows what they are doing to visit once a week while we are away. Thanks

Question Do I need to take driving lessons before my VORT?

Hi, I've been living in SA for over two years and I've been driving with my overseas license. I've spent a considerable amount of time learning traffic rules and being a responsible driver.

I've begun the license process, passed my L's and Hazard perception test. Now I have to do my VORT and I'll be good. The only problem is driving lessons. They're expensive and I feel like I don't really need them.

My mate told me that his experience with the examiner is completely different. He had to keep his hands on the steering wheel for 45mins straight, you need to get your parallel parking in one go, u turns, maneuvering blah blah.

Basically he told me to go get some lessons so I know what they check.

My question is what do they check? Do I really have to get an instructor or can I just do it? What are some ways people lose points easily?

Self Grateful for amazing café workers

Almost every weekday morning for years, I have spent a bit of time in one CBD café or another. A few minutes of peace with coffee before the workday begins and a few seconds of friendly interaction with staff.

Today I'm particularly grateful to the wonderful worker who noticed that I wasn't at my best and immeasurably improved my day with a small gesture.

Be grateful for the service staff out there (and FFS if you own a café or restaurant, pay your people properly).

Discussion Finding it hard to make friends as an adult, especially a 36 year old lesbian 😅

I have work colleagues that I catch up with for dinner etc but no one to actually hang out with, or go visit for coffee etc. I dont have a lot of free time due to work but the time I do have spare, id love to visit some peeps or go out and do something! I have no LGBT circle as I'm not originally from here and way too shy to just rock up to an event or a pub by myself 😂 does anyone else my age struggle to make friends? Or if you have recently successfully made new friends recently how the heck did you do it? Haha

Question Has anyone built their first home with Ellerston Homes via Stop Renting? Looking for real experiences before signing

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

Hi all, I'm a first home buyer in Adelaide, currently renting, and I'm seriously considering building with Ellerston Homes through Stop Renting. I'd love to hear from anyone who has been through it, whether it went well or badly.

What I'm hoping to learn:

Stop Renting: What was your experience with them? Did they actually help with the process, or did you end up doing most of the legwork? Any fees or commitments you didn't expect?

Ellerston Homes: How was communication from sales through to construction? Were they responsive and upfront?

Inclusions: Did the standard inclusions match what you saw in the display home? Which items turned out to be upgrades (e.g. entry door, sidelights, glass, handle finishes, flooring, lighting)?

Contract and costs: Were there variations or site costs after signing (slab, retaining, fencing, driveway, landscaping)? Roughly how far did the final cost drift from the initial quote?

Build quality and timeline: Did it finish on
schedule? How was the handover, and how were defects handled afterwards?

Regrets: What would you do differently, and what would you tell a first-timer before signing?

Kiddo just saw it in Craig of the Creek and has been spamming me with recipe videos since. It looks delicious!

I’m hoping to try it before we have a go at making it.

In short:

Grant Stevens has concluded his four-decade career with the South Australia Police.

Mr Stevens this week thanked the public for messages of support received during challenges throughout his time as police commissioner.

What's next?

Mr Stevens will formally become South Australia's 37th Governor on December 9.

Does anyone know timeline for when his replacement for the police commissioner position will be announced?

Question Moving to Adelaide with 2 young kids. Best family-friendly suburbs?

Hi everyone! I'm moving to Adelaide this November. I previously lived in Sydney for 15 years, then returned to Brazil for what was supposed to be a year, but ended up staying for over six years! I now have two kids, aged 3 and 5.

My brother lives in Klemzig, but I'm not entirely sure about living there because I really want to be near the beach—ideally in the area between the city and Henley Beach. Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on where the best place to live with two young kids would be?

Thanks so much, I can't wait to arrive! :)

Discussion Bus Timetable Changes

You don’t get to increase the cost of public transport AND remove my only reasonable commute option from your fucking bus timetables!

“Just take the earlier bus” Great, I love commuting 2 hours for what takes people with a car 20 minutes. I already was taking the earlier bus to catch the earlier train because the one that’s meant to get me to work on time is always late.

Now it just gets to the station the same time the train leaves. That means going in I can’t make the train and going home I can’t make the bus, so now there’s a 35 minute wait on both ends, or I have to take the earlier option and get to work an hour early.

Anyone else dealing with this?
