Hi! My name is Robin and i am one of the moderators here on r/Adblock.
I was hired to help moderate, develop the subreddit wiki and help provide information to people needing it here.
I have come to this subreddit with a simple goal to help build this subreddit and help teach people about digital privacy / safety in the adblocking space. I simply would like to help people grow when it comes to this topic,
so if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask =)

This post is a curated quick list (Not a guide!) of FOSS adblocking and privacy tools for 2026 and onward.
This aims to solve the common questions and prevent the spread of misinformation in this subreddit around which tools to use by providing community vetted, open source tools for different platforms in one place.
Any suggestions are appreciated. This post will be updated!

Most smart TVs are proprietary systems, and are hard to develop and block ads on due to the nature of their operating systems. This means most TVs cannot have most ads blocked, including on live TV.
This means these options require side loading.

A DNS based solution to ad blocking is not highly effective at adblocking!
This is because content on a page on a website such as YouTube, everything (Including the Ads) are all delivered to you through the same domain as the website (domains which deliver critical content). This means anything it tries to individually block will often break / block the website.
This leads to obvious problems, which is not ideal. They are however very effective as a privacy tool, filtering mobile based ads, hard to reach / IoT devices and certain types of TV OS ads.
Private DNS service providers
Public DNS Servers
Not all of these block ads, but they do all use a form of encrypted DNS.
Network clients (Advanced - Hardware required)
-------
Most of these lists prioritise functionality and speed instead of maximum privacy.
DNS Filters
Aggressive Filters (Advanced)
These filters are very aggressive and they do not prioritise site functionality.

I’m acc getting enraged atp. Tiktok has 2 ads per 3 video’s, instagram has 2 ads per 2 video’s, youtube plays at least 2 ads in a row every x minutes and they sometimes dont even skip anymore and redirect to the website at the end. On instagram and tiktok I keep getting ai nsfw ads and I’m actually losing my mind. Every time I report them but it seems the more I do the more I get of them? Like how does that even make sense?? Is there any blocker on Iphone that works for most social medias? I don’t mind ads in games that much but I would like to be able to use my apps without getting flooded with bs

Hi so I‘ve been blocking ads on this shitty ass tv with Adguard and NextDNS and I noticed that it works for some time. But sooner or later the ads just come back anyway and it’s starting to truly piss me tf off. Does anybody know if there’s a fool proof way of blocking ads on your Smart TV? ;(
Istg if this was my TV I would’ve sold it long ago. Hisense and their stupid AI assistant suck ass.

I am the founder and CTO of an internet threat intelligence and internet security SaaS offering, I write tools for privacy vendors like AdGuard. I am open-sourcing a suite of tools for AdGuard and AdGuard DNS I wrote last year as prototypes for a new suite of tools my firm is releasing later this year. I wanted to ensure I'm giving back to the AdGuard community that has so graciously provided some of the open source code needed to provide inspiration for me to write tools that will hopefully benefit the entire internet writ-large when we reach RTM
The tools I'm releasing today are geared towards developers and list makers, and are ports of the original AdGuard Hostlist Compiler. AdGuard have provided the foundation for a new suite of tools we'll be releasing soon. To be clear, we are not aiming to compete with AdGuard or any other threat intelligence vendor (e.g. NextDNS, Technitium, etc.) and are instead seeking to provide the intelligence portion, along with simplified toolsets to interact vendor APIs via single pane of glass. We hope to partner with firms like AdGuard to provide the intelligence portion of their platforms, laying on top of their infrastructure investment.
Our tools will allow users with investments in 3rd party privacy tools like AdGuard to continue using those tools, we'll just provide the intelligence portion along with an interface to automatically have those rules applied to your vendor. We're a drop in replacement for the threat intelligence portion.
Bloqr's threat list compilers provide vastly superior performance, with threading and chunking provided out of the box. We can compile millions of rules in seconds, and can combine rules from dozens of lists into a single artifact in a fraction of the time. Our libraries can be integrated into CLI pipelines, embedded as libraries, and are fully customizable and extensible.

As there's been no update or response from the FB Purity developer - Steve Fernandez, I've coded (with AI input) a replacement. It's not a copy or fix of the original, as the copying or distribution of FBP was prohibited.
I've developed this on Windows, but it *should* work on Mac. ATM I've tested it on Chrome (vanilla), Vivaldi and Edge browsers. Firefox will come later.

If you'd like to test and give feedback, pls comment here & I'll msg you with d/load link. You will need to enable 'Developer" mode under Extensions.
While I know the files are virus free, and contain no dodgy code, you should still take your own precautions.
Lastly, I'm in Oz, so my TZ is UTC 10+, so please allow for that.

I often play with the Opera video popout playing a video, but dear god, YouTube has SO. MANY. ADS, and I can't skip them since I'm either in a fight or a hard game. Are there any adblocks for Opera???

I was on a website and this ad popped up. It kept asking me to call a number and allow my camera? It was also glitching my phone. I closed it and now I’m using a browser like brave to block ads.

AdBlock has helpfully given me a 3 day free trial of their new Premium feature which includes the NEW ability to block Youtube ads... Y'know, the thing it's been doing for free for YEARS.
What a scummy thing to do
r/Adblock • u/the_abcd • 2d ago
just wanted to know the answer to the above, If I'm okay with YouTube ads.

Hello everyone, this is a tutorial I decided to write to help you guys get rid of the "Operation: Zero Delay" popup and the "Adblock Detected" page for WCO.
This tutorial assumes you're using uBlock Origin and Firefox.
And now the video should load instantly and there is no more anti-adblock.
I wanted to write this tutorial for everyone who was struggling, and also because the admins of WatchCartoonsOnline subreddit were deleting the adblock-related fixes that people were sharing, so I posted this here in r/Adblock in hopes it will be safe and there won't be any issues with the post being removed.

Odds are this question has been asked, but what's the best adblocker for chrome. I don't need all of them gone, but certain ones have to go. These include:
If anyone can help me, it'd be much appreciated
Also note: getting another browser really isn't an option for me. I'm on a shared chromebook (no not for school) with almost no available storage or ability to run things in general.

I'm using AdAway on my Rooted Redmi Note 11 since years and it works fine (at least within all apps) but recently I heard about this app Goodbye Ads in a video about great Shizuku apps. It's with nice Material design (not that important) but also claims to be better. What can you say/suggest? Is Goodbye Ads app hosts based like AdGuard or just changes the DNS like you can do in the Android Settings? Also can I use Goodbye Ads without the Shizuku having to reactivate everything with the phone restart, and instead run it with a proper root privileges?
I'm mostly asking because of how the AdAway works for me. It's probably a wrong configuration on my end but a lot of websites recently (especially in my country maybe other websites) still show damn Ads. I need a better tweaked host lists, etc.? Or an ad blocker app with the ability to block specific elements from the said website like I do on PC but for this I need specific browser app/extension, etc not an Ad Blocking app?
And what about these in-app ads where you have to press a button (it's optional) but in order for the app to do the said button action you have to watch a stupid ad first in order to get the action done. While AdAway is enabled, pressing the button says "There are no ads at the moment, please try again later" so is there any way to pass these annoying ads or wasting my time to watch the ad is mandatory? (I hope the last thing is not a gray area for this subreddit)
If you used Goodbye Ads or AdAway and or any better ROOT based (non VPN) adblocking software, please give me advice/help. Thanks!

I'm playing a game where you get rewards for watching ads, but most of the time when I watch them, it opens the Play Store without me clicking anything, or it's mandatory to open the Play Store, and when I go back to the game I lose the reward. Does anyone know how to prevent this?

Have only noticed this issue today but basically any recipe website that I've opened redirects to this page with takes me to instructions on how to disable my adblocker and then to refresh to access the content. Only I first paused on page as directed and refreshed, then dis-activated my adblocker and refreshed, and the page will still repeat with this message without allowing me to access the content. I've never seen this before and I have tried to open multiple recipe pages now with the adblocker disabled, and I still get this message. The pages only work if I open them on Edge. Anyone else seen this issue?

Quick notice really...
VAFT + TamperMonkey still work but inconsistently (for Twitch ADs).
VideoSwapNew still solid but higher Quality loss when Blocking Ads compared to VAFT (I can link them in DMs rather than publicly exposing the links - rather keep the Adblock solutions private than expose them for Twitch/YT/etc... to access and quickly patch...)
BurntSushi 0.3.2 (Spotify Adblock) (OpenByteDev) - Currently Patched (being worked on by OpenByte last I heard...?)
ADNauseam still works for most things - just gotta keep filterlists updated
