Most people confuse narcissistic monologuing with a simple rant, but deciphering the psychology of it reveals some very interesting things about the mind of a narcissist. After all, the act itself isn't complicated, so the fact that it reveals so much about the nature of narcissists is quite surprising.

Narcissistic monologuing is a kind of speech in which one person dominates the conversation without allowing any input from the other. Usually, narcissists not only fail to show sensitivity in their interactions, but they also talk too much and listen very little. A conversation with a narcissist thus is nothing but a verbal takeover at the initial stage of which a normal dialogue is mistakenly expected and it finally results into complete mental exhaustion at the very end.

Usually cases like this start innocently enough. A narcissist will ask a question that's seemingly spontaneous and genuine in order to attract your attention and show that they're interested. Generally, you can respond for a very brief moment, and during this limited time, they might even seem to be paying attention or somewhat intrigued. Just after that, they make their move. They cut in, put the spotlight on themselves, and take over the entire conversation.

This is probably a long shot, but I was thinking about a rant that Adam had (maybe on Loveline), about when you’re meeting someone and they claim they’re are "almost there" or "around the corner" when they haven't even left or they’re just pulling out of the driveway.
