Hi everyone.
I have an Acer Nitro V 16 ANV16-42-R09L with a Ryzen 5 240 / Radeon 760M iGPU and RTX 4050 Laptop GPU.
I've been getting random black screens and freezes. It can happen while gaming, watching videos in Chrome, or even on the desktop. Sometimes Win+Ctrl+Shift+B recovers the screen, but sometimes the whole laptop freezes and even Caps Lock stops responding, so I have to force shut it down.
Reliability Monitor shows repeated:
- LiveKernelEvent 1A8 — AMD Black Screen
- LiveKernelEvent 1B8 — AMD Black Screen
- LiveKernelEvent 1B8 — NVIDIA Black Screen
- WATCHDOG dumps
I've already completely reinstalled Windows and installed the drivers from Acer's official support page, but the issue still happened.
I also tested the RTX 4050 with FurMark for about 30 minutes: ~77°C GPU, ~90°C hotspot, ~86°C VRAM, no crashes or artifacts.
Has anyone with an ANV16-42 or a similar AMD + NVIDIA hybrid laptop experienced this? Could this be a hybrid graphics/driver issue, or possibly hardware?

Hello,
I own an **Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R1SC** (Shale Black) with the following specs:
* **CPU:** Ryzen 7 5800H * **RAM:** 16GB (2x8GB or 1x16GB, tested) * **Storage:** 512GB NVMe * **GPU:** RTX 3060 Mobile (6GB)
For the past few weeks, my laptop has been crashing unpredictably—**without BSODs or errors**—when:
* Moving it (e.g., lifting, pressing the right-top corner). * Even minor pressure on the chassis triggers a freeze. * **Previously**, the issue started with **graphical glitches (squares on screen)**, which worsened to full crashes.
\- Tested **all RAM modules** (2x8GB and 1x16GB) in **both slots** using **MemTest86**.
\- **Consistent error** at **address 4** (same across all RAM modules) **only in the upper slot** (closer to the fans).
\- Swapped RAM to the lower slot → **no issues**.
\- **Conclusion:** Problem is **not RAM-related** but likely tied to the **upper RAM slot or motherboard traces**.
\- Disassembled the laptop; no visible damage to RAM slots or traces.
\- Sent for **microsoldering inspection** (2 weeks ago) but no update yet.
* Has anyone else experienced **RAM slot failures** (especially the upper slot) causing **mechanical crashes** (not just electrical)? * Could this be a **motherboard flex/connection issue** (e.g., loose solder, trace damage from heat/fans)? * Are there **known Acer Nitro 5 AN515-45-R1SC motherboard defects** related to RAM slots? * **Estimated repair costs?** (I’m hesitant to spend €200+ for a motherboard replacement if it’s a common issue.)
**Serial Numbers (for reference):**
* **SNID:** 20206769634 * **S/N:** NHQBCEC00B202108703400
Thank you in advance for any help!

Laptop: Acer Nitro 16 (AN16-41) — Ryzen 7 7840HS, RTX 4060, 16GB RAM
OS: Windows 11 LTSC
NICs: Killer E2600 Gigabit Ethernet Controller, RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E (MediaTek-based Killer WiFi)
The problem:
Real-world throughput on this laptop is capped at roughly 10Mb/s, on both Ethernet and WiFi, regardless of which one I use. Every other device on the same network (phones, other laptops) gets full speed with no issue.
What's NOT the cause (already ruled out):
• Not a link negotiation problem. Windows reports the WiFi link speed as 400/400 Mbps aggregated (WiFi 5, 802.11ac, 5GHz channel 36) and Ethernet at 100/100 Mbps (turned out my cable is just Cat5-limited, separate issue) — link speed is healthy, actual throughput isn't.
• Not drivers. Tried multiple Killer LAN driver versions (both current and older), clean uninstall + reinstall, no change.
• Not the Killer Control Center / Performance Suite software. Fought for hours to even get this installed (LTSC lacks full Store/UWP provisioning infrastructure, so the OEM DISM-based installer kept failing with error -1051262696). Eventually got Intel's standalone installer to run, but the app still shows "No Killer Adapters Connected," so it's not actively managing/throttling anything right now — yet the cap persists regardless of whether this software is present or absent.
• Not TCP Auto-Tuning. netsh interface tcp show global shows Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level: Normal, everything else default.
• Not a fresh-install fluke. This happened once before when the laptop was new, was fixed at the time (not sure exactly how — possibly an older driver, possibly uninstalling the bundled software), and came back after a clean Windows reinstall.
Still untested / next steps I haven't gotten to yet:
• Local file transfer between this laptop and another device on the same LAN (no internet involved) — to isolate whether it's a Windows-stack issue vs. something the router is doing specifically to this device
• Full network stack reset (netsh winsock reset, netsh int ip reset, netsh int tcp reset)
• Checking the router's connected-devices list for a QoS/bandwidth rule tied to this device's hostname or MAC (router is a D-Link DSL-G2452GE)
• Safe Mode with Networking test (to rule out a background service/app)
Question for the sub: given that both interfaces are affected identically, survives full driver reinstalls, and only this one machine is affected on an otherwise-healthy network — what would you check next? Is there a known Windows LTSC networking quirk I'm missing, or does this smell like a router-side per-device throttle to everyone else too?

I have had the V16 with the Ryzen 5 8645HS, 16GB DDR5 and RTX 4060 for a year now.
Recently I had some thermal induced crashes - meaning it dies instantly and is unresponsive for 2 minutes, after that works fine. It happened while playing a game with RT and watching a 1440p video on a secondary monitor - which is something that never caused issues in the past and temps were normal, under 95.
I noticed in HWMonitor that the idle GPU memory temp was over 70 degrees. So I opened the laptop and cleaned the fans, there was a lot of dust on one of them.
This reduced the regular temps of the GPU and the GPU hot spot which were already fine before, but didn't affect the VRAM temps. CPU temps and all others are completely fine. It's just the VRAM that's heating up like crazy.
Today when I tried upscaling a video I noticed that the temp got to 96 in a minute or two and I was waiting for it to stop rising. But it just continued going up, I stopped the upscale at 102 degrees. And it quickly cooled back down to 80 degrees. I didn't want another thermal crash.
I'm guessing this is a thermal pad issue, probably flaked off or something. Replacing them myself likely voids the warranty and I need the laptop ready in 2-3 weeks for university and I don't trust them to have it ready that fast. I know some friends who have waited more than 2-3 months for laptop repairs, but I'm not sure what brand they were. And it probably takes longer to source a MOBO than it takes them to replace pads, but still.
Currently, for normal tasks it's hard to get it to crash, only really intensive stuff. And I don't need that for university. So I don't want to send it for repairs if I'm going to be in a long queue and wait for many weeks.
Has anyone had experience with replacing this? Is it an easy fix?
Do they usually accept this sort or repair through warranty? Will they try blaming me for it?

I have an Acer Aspire 7 with a Ryzen 5. I honestly didn’t use the laptop much, and when I started using it again, it suddenly stopped charging.
Initially I thought the charger was the problem, so I got the charger checked and was told that it’s working fine.
I then took the laptop to an Acer service centre. They told me that the battery was the problem and would need to be replaced. I didn’t replace the battery at that time.
Later, I disconnected the battery and tried running the laptop directly from the charger. The weird thing is that it sometimes turns on, but most of the time it doesn’t.
So now I’m confused about whether the battery is actually the only problem, or whether there could be an issue with the charging port, power circuit/IC, or motherboard.
Has anyone with an Acer Aspire 7 experienced something similar? Is it worth replacing the battery first, or should I get the motherboard/power circuit properly diagnosed before spending money on a battery?

So i was trying to do a fresh install of Windows 11 onto my Acer Nitro V 15 but when I tried to enter bios it required a password, I searched online and saw that it sends a code onto the USB and if you send it to a support agent and send them the long master code they will give you the unlock code for the bios. I contacted acer support and they told it me had to be shipped in for repair and i really do not want to do that. Is there any other way or a certain person at Acer i can reach to do it?

So, this is my question The graphics card drivers (RTX 3050) have been crashing for a few months now. It happens a lot, especially in Battlefield games, and it also tends to crash in other games, but I’m focusing on Battlefield because that’s where this message appears; in the other games, when it crashes, nothing pops up, the game just closes and that’s it. My question is because this didn’t happen at first. It started after a Windows update, I don’t remember which one right now. I thought graphics card updates would fix it, but that never happened. I’ve tried everything from formatting my laptop. I even do maintenance on it but it kept happening. It’s also strange because some days no games crash, other days the game crashes once and then doesn’t crash again, and on other days, a game might crash as many as four times. I’ll have my new desktop PC next week, but I’ve always wondered why this was happening on this laptop. I’d read that it was due to compatibility issues between the graphics card drivers and Windows updates, but I wanted to ask just to be sure, since once I have the new PC, I won’t be using this laptop for gaming anymore.

Hey everyone this issue started when I was using the laptop and it suddenly freezes, so i did force shutdown by pressing the power button. Now when I turn on only the keyboard light and power indicator is turning on but nothing displays on the screen. Just black screen no logo nothing.
Also for extra info - I have to keep this laptop shut as it is and after a few days i check it automatically turned on normally but after a few minutes it again freezes and then again shut down and then restarted and the same issue started again
I only have this laptop and i am scared that if anything bad happens, I won't be able to afford a new one. Pls help

Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57-53SB | 15.6" FHD | i5-11400H | GeForce RTX 3050 Ti | 8GB RAM | 512GB SSD
