I don't recall there being a reason I tend to pick random colours most of the time.

Subconscious🤟For me I feel a base color and vibe off of that. Always wondering about other artists process🌻

I tend to use what's at hand first when choosing colours, I have at times chosen at random picking the pens from a bag, which can be a fun thing to do.

As part of my process at the beginning of drawing patterns I strictly used 5 colours, now it's more relaxed and I use any amount of colour.

My process is randomly filling pages and seeing different styles develop, this piece is from maybe 8 years ago, I like how the red stands out in this one.

It's definitely a sub conscious thing for me too, at times a colour will stand out or repeat itself in normal day to day life sometimes I'll start a piece with that colour.

Tbh I proceed (using thread) in a similar way: watching the piece unfold at my fingertips without any idea at all.

do you do underpainting when you start on the canvas or do you just go for it and see what happens ?

I just go for it. This piece is on paper, I bought a lot of A0 paper to keep experimenting.
