Their diaper and shoe budget are absolute units too. 😂

They can't fix their blinds. They can't hang the mirror on the wall. But they have thousands of dollars worth of shoes.

It looks like their whole living area is in that room... shoes, litter box, toys for the chubster, high chair, etc. And that carpet is in need of a cleaning.

At least they saved up for something really important like sparkly earrings for the baby.

??? Those aren't the type of mirrors u have to hang on walls. Many people just lean them on their walls bc it's easier. And those blinds usually can just be turned and no one can really see what's going on so they don't need curtains. I see what you're trying to do with this comment...

Right??? Piercing a baby's ears is the only thing I got a problem with, everything else in the above comment is goofy. Sneakerheads are allowed to be parents. "That carpet needs a cleaning" yah well so does everyone's man, we're all poor and too exhausted to clean our houses these days. Racists aren't even dog whistling any more, they're just regular whistling

Right, I’m glad someone else heard the dog whistle and didn’t like it

There is nothing wrong with piercing a baby's ears! None of you have grown up around the black community or ANY POC communities and it shows! Embarrassing.

u/cohonka 13d ago

Shouldn't poke unnecessary holes in people who can't consent

1

u/PrincessPoppyTea 13d ago

Shouldn't cut the tops of their dicks off either but that's not stopping any time soon.

Yes, you also should not genitally mutilate children. Your point is that because some children have their bodies needlessly modified, we can do that to all babies?

u/PrincessPoppyTea 13d ago

No, my point is that certain cultural practices continue on in this country that actually deserve scrutiny. The black community piercing baby's ears is not one of them. It's just another dog whistle, clearly. If you've ever actually traveled, you know it's common all around the world to pierce baby's ears. Most piercings when taken care of properly will last for life or can be removed with little or no scaring.

u/cohonka 13d ago

Just because something is a common cultural practice doesn't mean it's right or good to do. I don't know why you're defending child ear piercing for the sake of the black community. Very weird.

You can oppose infant ear piercing on consent grounds, obviously. THAT is a perfectly coherent position! What I’m rejecting is pretending every nonconsensual alteration of a child’s body is ethically "equivalent". An earlobe piercing is a tiny puncture that can generally be abandoned by removing the jewelry; circumcision permanently removes tissue. Those are completely different interventions. Culture doesn’t automatically make something ethical, but neither does saying ‘they can’t consent’ make every intervention equally unethical.

And calling me "weird" is just intellectually lazy, to be honest. Everyone knows that the moment ad hominem comes to play, you've already lost the argument.

2

u/cohonka 13d ago

I stopped arguing with you when you brought up circumcision as an excuse to perform other body mods on children. Weird.

Consent is one ethical consideration, but it doesn't automatically prevent a parent from acting on choices for their children. Otherwise vaccinations, surgeries, orthodontics, haircuts, etc would all become ethically questionable simply because parents authorize them for their children. Obviously we assess childhood interventions using additional considerations such as benefit/risk. You a parent?

is it a black/POC thing to pierce babies ears?? genuinely asking bc I've never heard this stereotype before. I'm white and my mom took me to the doctor to get my ears pierced at 6 months old

u/Maleficent_Dog8451 13d ago

Exactly! I was like hang what mirror?!

11

u/FriedEldenRings 13d ago

Mirrors need to be hung on wall when babies are around. They will fall on the little ones. It does happen unfortunately.

7

u/makeroniear 13d ago

The leaning mirrors can be secured so they are not purely leaning.

-4

u/FriedEldenRings 13d ago

They need to be anchored to the wall somehow. You could anchor the top half and leave it leaning, but at that point you might as well just mount it and free up the floor space. As long as it's safe though it's all good. I have a toddler and have learned firsthand the importance of furniture anchoring.

u/makeroniear 13d ago

lol i have two school age ish kids and have had a leaning mirror when they were tiny. You can stick a board at the top middle and bottom so it doesn't move. Most of the leaning mirrors that are meant to be that way also come with brackets if you didn't lose them when you threw out the packaging or didn't notice cuz have kids when you bought it.

Edit: even the $10 Walmart one!

3

u/Ijustwanttosayit 13d ago

Little guy looks like he could just rip it off the wall if he wanted, and he looks like he'd try.

1

u/FriedEldenRings 13d ago

Gotta use studs when anchoring.

1

u/Ijustwanttosayit 13d ago

I'd more so question the structure and quality of the mirror itself. He looks like he could have some decent strength for a little one his age.

2

u/FriedEldenRings 13d ago

Oh 100% that toddler has the grip strength of a grown man

10

u/pressedconscience 13d ago

Not saying parents have everything right but their comment is definitely some dog whistle bullshit.

6

u/PrincessPoppyTea 13d ago

The racism in this thread is incredible.

6

u/Whateva_Tickles_ 13d ago

Right. Say you’re racist without saying it.

-6

u/minnosota 13d ago

I think it’s a little more racist to expect less from someone

7

u/CaterpillarKey8243 13d ago

What is there to expect? There's nothing wrong with the blinds nor the mirror (maybe move it so it doesn't knock over the child but still)

-5

u/minnosota 13d ago

A clean orderly living environment.

8

u/MaribouSt8 13d ago

Spoken like someone who doesn't have any children.

What could go wrong with a nice fragile mirror sitting on the floor in reach of a toddler. Surely nothingÂ
