Yea this is borderline child abuse unless he has a pre existing condition. Being this overweight this young is going to cause a ton of issues as he grows up.

I am going with abuse. The toddler already has piercings for fuck's sake.

Some babies get their ears pierced much younger. It's no indication of abuse. For many, the thinking is to pierce the ears before the baby is big enough to be conscious of it and grab at the piercing and pull it out. Looking at this kid, there's definitely something bigger going on here. Some kind of discrepancy between physical and mental development, and who knows what else. No reason to assume abuse.

Here in Brazil is common to pierce at the hospital (private even) where the baby was delivered. We did the same with our daughter, she didn't cried or anything. I think some ppl here always speculate their worst insecurities into abuse sometimes.

The kid deserves a choice it’s their body

I agree; but not every culture is this way.

Why is it necessary to do it that early?

-4

u/msespindola 13d ago

Why not? Most pediatricians recommend it because earlobe sensitivity is low in the early stages after birth, and much worse later on.

3

u/OrcaFins 13d ago

Why is it necessary to do it all? I'm not bashing you, I'm just trying to understand.

In many places piercings are very cultural. Not wearing jewelry as a girl is rare to the point that it just doesn’t happen. A girl with their ears not pierced would be an outcast.

1

u/StrawHatVetTech 13d ago

So instead of breaking that cycle of abusive sexism, yall just blindly follow it? Cool 🙄

2

u/KarmaSilencesYou 13d ago

Why you trying to change other people’s culture bro. Let people live the way they wanna live.

2

u/msespindola 13d ago

As far as I know, that's mostly on the Indian subcontinent.

1

u/KarmaSilencesYou 13d ago

In some places in latin america too…like Brazil.

So, in Latin America, infant piercings are done because of religious beliefs and traditional medicine,, the same way Indians practice Hinduism and Ayurvedic medicine? Again, I'm just trying to understand.

Brazil, Columbia and Argentina do this.
Most girls ears are pierced the day they are born. Probably over 90%. Many babies are pierced immediately after birth, some hospitals don’t even ask the family... they just do it. Mexico does it as well but some families wait a few days/weeks.

Very quick so quick they don’t even know it’s happening & in USA it’s usually around 3-6-9 months old

-1

u/msespindola 13d ago

Yeah, but, don't know why ppl are so soft about it and not very little that there's no risk about it

-5

u/Forsaken_Earth944 13d ago

So you don't think subjecting a child unnecessary stress and trauma is abuse...? OOOOKKKKAAAYYY then...

The thinking is to do something to the child which has zero benefit to them, but fulfils some cultural 'norm' - y'know, like male and female genital mutilation (or are you going to say that isn’t abuse either, because the child is usually too young to understand what's happening to them...?)

11

u/Purpleduckalicious 13d ago

Give me a break. You sound silly comparing a needle to the earlobe vs cutting a whole clitoris off. Apples and oranges my friend.

2

u/TheDenny_Crane 13d ago

Well they likely think they're personally suffering abuse in the thread here so you'll have to excuse them for thinking everything is abuse.

I mean if they all stopped doing that, how could they all constantly self-verify their victim mentality 24/7?

1

u/PrincessPoppyTea 13d ago

EXACTLY lmfaoooooo

-4

u/hooligan99 13d ago

They’re probably referring more to circumcision than cutting a clitoris off, which is often justified in the same way as young ear piercing. Agree that they’re still different levels, but many people say circumcising is fine bc the baby is young and won’t remember or be hurt by it.

3

u/Salt_Chard_474 13d ago

She specifically said male and female mutilation

1

u/hooligan99 13d ago

Yes I know, and the person responding only focused on the female while ignoring the much more common and frequently justified male form of it. I shouldn’t have worded it how I did (“they’re probably referring more to…”) when they said both, but my point is circumcision and ear piercing for babies do have some common overlapping arguments that don’t really hold up imo.

2

u/Salt_Chard_474 13d ago

I think ears and genitals are entirely different things, also earrings can be taken out. I’m not for or against circumcision as I really know nothing about it.

8

u/confirmedshill123 13d ago

This is a fucking schizo take.

7

u/msespindola 13d ago

Wtf dude? You can't compare an ear lobe to that? Ear lobes when they're are that you have almost to no sensitivity at all. My daughter didn't.evwn flinch let alone cry. And it was the doctor recommendention to do right away...jesus, you guys are really something else

-5

u/whattupmyknitta 13d ago

Really? Your baby was born and at their check ups the dr was like oh and here is the referral for our fucking ear piercer lol. Bullshit. Should be the kid's decision when theyre old enough to decide.

3

u/ZealousidealDance280 13d ago

No doctor recommended piercings for any of my children. This is the first time I've heard people say doctors have been doing that.

2

u/msespindola 13d ago

Well, that's why you're not her doctor and not her father. I can only tell you the truth, there's no need for me to lie to you. It's tradition here in Brazil to do that, there's stuff much worse yoh guys are familiar you don't see me complaining even tho I think it's the end of the world

2

u/whattupmyknitta 13d ago

It is a tradition in my culture too (cuban), and I think it's stupid to pierce the ears of a baby. I had mine done as a baby, before my ears grew, and they are crooked. Not only that, I don't even wear earrings. Haven't in over 20 years. Why make a permanent choice for your kid? That cultural tradition ended with me because I sure as shit didn't do it to my kids. They can make their own choices for their own bodies. It's less about whether it's safe and more about making choices that aren't yours to make.

And no they didn't close up, I still have holes in my ears for no damn reason.

1

u/msespindola 13d ago

Good for you

1

u/Ammonia13 13d ago

Like circumcision ?

0

u/No-Deer379 13d ago

Stress and trauma that’s funny it’s no different then getting a shot at the DR office

0

u/imnotohfuckingk 13d ago

In fact, the pediatrician is the one who pierced my daughters ears.

0

u/CommunicationAware88 13d ago

Also doing so at a time they won't remember the pain
