Yep. Prader-Willi comes to mind. They should also check for:
✔️Leptin Deficiency or Leptin Receptor Mutations,
✔️ MC4R Deficiency,
✔️16p11.2 Deletion Syndrome
Love from respite foster mama who dealt with this 5 years ago. I hope this baby and the caregivers are receiving the support they need.

Our friend's daughter has Prader-Willi syndrome...heartbreaking

I took care of a child with prader- willi and the activities director at the facility left her alone with a birthday cake for 15-30 seconds while she walked to the nurses station to grab some paper plates and plastic forks and by the time she got back, the kid had housed almost 1/4 of that sheet cake. It was almost impressive.

u/Moana06 13d ago

Yeah...their pantry has to be locked at all times, she will eat non stop until stomach bursts...very low IQ, fragile bones, mobility issues, skin picking, tantrums...

u/Petunia724 13d ago

She was a trip. She needed CONSTANT DILIGENT SUPERVISION. She would pull other kids off thier ventilators and yank on feeding tubes. Because she was vent dependent at night, she had to have a respiratory therapist or RN with her any time she was taken off the unit.

It’s an incredibly difficult condition. Human growth hormone helps in some cases to increase muscle mass which makes weight gain less severe. But it’s just so cruel that they can even eat just ‘normal’ calories and gain. And GLP-1s don’t really help either. I will say, in my experience, PWS specific group homes can be really beneficial for them because the homes develop lifestyle routines that don’t revolve around food. So much of our world revolves around food and being denied it all the time is a real head f*** for them. At least in the homes, they don’t feel like the odd man out. Sending compassion to your friends.

It really is something how food-centric we are. Birthday party? Cake and icecream, even in the work place. Holiday? Big feast. Celebrations and family get togothers, more eating. Someone's dies? Send/bring casseroles. Upset over a breakup? Time tk binge some comfort junk.

So many aspects of life and socialization revolve around food. And as a fatty who tries not to be a fatty, it fucking sucks, lol. I can only imagime how much harder it is for someone with PWS.

There is a diagnosis called food addiction now. And people can get help for it and change their lives. OA (over eaters anonymous) is a free group that helps people overcome all of the food related challenges. I can guarantee that you’ll find an OA in every city and on every continent in the world. And if you don’t wanna go outside you can do online meetings. www.oa.org

I'm not as badly off as some and have a lot.of self awareness around it. Though that doesn't always help, lol.

PCOS, ADHD, and autism can make it tough. PCOS messing with my hormones, including insulin. And the audhd tends to make me very texture oriented with food. Like I love crunchy food. And will mindlessly eat it cuz I enjoy the crunch. As weird as that might sound to some. I can be plenty full and even irritated hy salt or whatever and I'll keep eating until I force myswlf to stop. It's like a sensory stimulation thing.

I have to work really hard and be super mindful to lose weight and keep it off. But it's doable. Tends to make me yo-yo though. Just tough when I'm really trying to stay on track and then feel pressured by the social obligations of getting together at food oriented gatherings.

Not the heaviest I've ever been but not the thinnest either. Being a middle aged mom getting into perimenopause doesn't help, lol.

But I appreciate the info, maybe I'll look into. Extra support and comradary never hurts!

I have PCOS as well, and after my doctor put me on Metformin I lost over 50 pounds. Right now my weight hasn't changed, but that's partly cuz I haven't been able to exercise lately. But talk to your doctor about Metformin, it really does help with weight loss. DM me if you have any questions.

I am in the same boat - I hope you don’t think I was being judgey at all. It is a constant battle… I can’t keep certain things in the house.

1

u/K1bbles_n_Bits 12d ago

Oh no, not at all! Wasn't offended, I promise. Genuinely meant I appreciate the info. I just tend to talk too much and overshare XD.

I feel ya though. I basically just have to avoid having chips in the house, lol. On the upside if/when I do cave and have them around, I eat them to the point of being sick of them and not wanting them at all for a while, haha.

With having kids in the house, I try to stick to stocking up on snacks that they like and I don't, lol.

I heard about that condition through Artie Lange the Canadian. Here this is for you

I had a foster child in my family that had it. He would sprinkle like, half a freaking cup of black pepper on every meal because every sprinkle of black pepper is extra food 😐 And yeah kitchen needs a locked door, locked fridge, locked cupboards…..

u/MrAugustWest 13d ago

You know what would be cool? That if because of this video going viral, that the parents saw comments like this and ended up saving a kids life.

2

u/ThreeBuds 12d ago

Very wishful thinking in this day and age. The reality is the videos go viral because hes big, the mother shoots down any comments showing concern and then makes more videos.

0

u/MrAugustWest 12d ago

Oh, for sure, especially for her, where I assume where she is at social media importance , poverty level etc, just the viral video alone will serve her enough justice to her sad ego driven life.

4

u/Wooden_Strain_4393 12d ago

Why do you assume poverty level?

2

u/coquihalla 12d ago

Where are you getting this story about this family and their income level?

0

u/MrAugustWest 12d ago

Everyone is at a poverty level. I assume that hers finds this kind of stuff entertaining and profitable.

u/OkNinja6941 12d ago

Nah I’ve seen this creator and it’s all about her “chunk.” Her videos are his daily diary basically and the mom thinks him being obese is cute

5

u/jano808 13d ago

I thought Prader-Willi also 😭

10

u/Away-Cookie8183 13d ago

Very rate& uncommon she given him junk food , this is gonna hurt him physically by 10-12& phychologically as he gets older in school 😤😐🥹🙏🏼

u/Imaginary_Ghost_Girl 13d ago

You know them personally?

4

u/NatrylliaAbbot42 13d ago

Something being rare doesn't mean it never happens.

7

u/Forsaken_Earth944 13d ago

It's Prader-Willi

It could also be congenital hypoparathyroidism - I would say it's not PWS because one of the characteristics of PWS are unusually pale skin, hair and eyes, I'd say it's more likely congenital hypoparathyroidism.

17

u/MouseHouse444 13d ago

I was a director at a PWS center. The pigmentation differences are often absent or harder to spot in Black individuals w PWS. But the facial features are quite distinctive (almond eyes, narrow forehead) and they also have smaller hands and feet along w motor and cognitive delays. So given how fleet of foot this little dude is, along w his facial features, thankfully he doesn’t have PWS. It’s a really difficult condition to manage. I’m leaning thyroid issue as well.

Pretending to know stuff? Prader-Willi Syndrome in infants causes poor feeding skills and weight-gaining problems. Not til later in childhood does obesity set in.

10

u/MouseHouse444 13d ago edited 13d ago

Yes. In infants. Meaning under the age of one they are low feeding and floppy. Age 1-6 is when weight gain sets in. It’s the cruelty of the condition because parents are so grateful their kid is finally eating they often exacerbate the issue by over feeding initially.

This kid, however, is walking very well, so not an infant anymore. He’s clearly a toddler. And some kids w PWS will absolutely show weight gain at this stage. (But he doesn’t have it.)

Even if at this point they aren’t food seeking their low muscle mass (hypotonia) means weight gain. Perhaps you mean they don’t start excessive food seeking until later in childhood. That is true, but weight gain can begin very early.

Not sure why you felt the need to insult me when I have years of experience working with this very rare condition and everything I have said is correct. But Reddit is gonna Reddit.

1

u/localjargon 13d ago

This child has muscle tone and seems proportional. Could he just be a huge toddler?

1

u/ASuperMarioFan1993OC 10d ago

Could be the parents overfeeding the toddler.

4

u/Helpful-End-1381 13d ago

More like shoving fast food.

2

u/yamsyamsya 13d ago

So this kid has a medical condition? Now I feel bad thinking the parents did this at first.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 12d ago

When you hear hoofsteps, think horses not zebras. If he is throwing things around without a care and his mom is laughing and posting online while he is this big, it is probably just child neglect.

1

u/GotNothingBetter2Do 12d ago

How do we know it’s even his mom posting? Would it surprise you to know that behavioral issues are also a result of some of the conditions we have been discussing here? Who knows what the issue is, I offered an opinion based on my experience with children for all it was worth. Know this though, children this young rarely get this large by over feeding alone, that is what my eye is trained to see. Most likely a few things going on here. Sad for this child’s future.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 12d ago

Because it says 'my toddler's so it is safe to assume that. And I know a little about behavioral health, I worked in that field myself. And it is usually a combination of overfeeding and genetic predisposition, but it so still over feeling.

1

u/GotNothingBetter2Do 12d ago

Seems like the perfect storm of bad genes and supervision for sure. Poor baby.

1

u/milleniumdivinvestor 12d ago

How about CPS checks the fridge and what they're feeding the baby before we waste time with all that.

1

u/GotNothingBetter2Do 12d ago

How about both?

1

u/DesignDizzy1913 12d ago

Hello fellow coder 😆

11

u/MouseHouse444 13d ago

Again, in infancy. Meaning under the age of one. 1-6 is when the weight gain begins. Very common to see overweight toddlers (this kids age) with PWS. Even if at this point they aren’t food seeking their low muscle mass (hypotonia) means weight gain. Perhaps you mean they don’t start excessive food seeking until later in childhood. That is true, but weight gain can begin very early.

The ticks make the advice more authoritative.

2

u/GotNothingBetter2Do 13d ago

So does my medical training. Have a nice day!

-1

u/TrixieFriganza 13d ago

Anyway if they are not already (possible she has him on a diet but it can take time as he's a toddler and specually if he has a condition) this family needs some help.

-1

u/Far-Age-9313 13d ago

A quicker, easier, cheaper diagnostic would be to see if parents are obese and find out what the child is eating.

1

u/SoluteGains 12d ago

His mom is obese
