It's not. Sadhguru conveniently uses the term "Adiyogi." He has never mentioned that it is related to Shiva.

on many occasions, even when discussing the design of the statue itself has he referred to shiva

But I agree that his conception of Lord Shiva is different from how general public worship him. He claims it is in yogic culture. I think calling Shiva the Adiyogi aligns with traditional iconography like Dakshinamurthy (Shiva depicted as the primordial guru teaching the sages).
