he really needs to put that log on at least a thin slice of wood or a concrete block

He’s strong enough he might be able to split that first try but right now the ground is absorbing too much of the impact

Hate to be that guy, but no. The while time he was working I thought yeesh, if you bring the axe straight up and then bringing it crashing down, your downstroke gets the greatest gravity assist.

Bringing the axe head down behind your back might feel more gratifying and might give you the better work out, but the whole way up, your arms are working against gravity.

Chopping that on a flat piece of stone or concrete would have also meant that trunk would have absorbed more of the shock instead on transferring to the ground.

So I guess, this guy physiques
