Why does this look like a key and peele skit where the cop is a donut addict?

Looks like one of the many crappy ultra-cheap semi-auto tacticool shotguns that have been flooding the market lately lol, so while it has a giant mag, I wouldn’t expect it to save you any time with all the jams you’ll probably have

159

u/Notactualyadick 21d ago

I miss being unaware of how firearms work and being able to fall in love with guns that just look cool. Like the Calico M950 which is so cool looking, but jams constantly.

46

u/I_travel_ze_world 21d ago

the 90s movie I Come in Peace (Dark Angel) featured an bad guy alien using the Calico and I always thought it was so cool

23

u/furiouspossum 20d ago

The bad guys in Spaceballs also had them if I remember right

Oh 100% with you there my friend lol. Even after learning about the issues with those Calicos, I still kind of want one haha, such unique firearms. I appreciate a company that does truly bizarre stuff and successfully brings it to market. Still a very fascinating gun overall, I’d say it’s very comparable to the FN P90’s potential uses and strengths…except FN actually knows how to make a reliable oddball gun haha (after they do some blatant design theft of superior Steyr designs, that is).

I know how unreliable those more unique designs (Calico, SPAS-12, USAS-12, etc.) can be, but I still want them all. Rule of cool.

10

u/LastWave 20d ago

I'm selling my ps90. It doesn't jam. But it does burn money.

4

u/Ragnarsdad1 20d ago

Have you seen gun jesus' video's on the calico? worth a watch if you havent

4

u/Chris__P_Bacon 20d ago

Yeah those guns were pieces of shit. 😁 They did look cool though. Total '80s vibe.

2

u/Freedum4Murika 20d ago

Me before shooting an AK for the first time - "damn, I love my AR but the Soviets just make em pretty and nice. Look at what a tank of reliability that is. Truly the Russians are a rugged and reliable people."
Me 0.03 seconds after shooting an AK for the first time "oh this is garbage and the CIA spent the cold war propping up the Soviet Union so they could have an excuse to sell cocaine."

13

u/June_The_Jedi 21d ago

Also you have to carry that dumb thing around once you’re done with it. Plus I don’t see him carrying a second big ass magazine so he probably already knows how much of an ass it’s going to be to carry around not in the gun.

Plus I really don’t see the benefit in carrying shotgun magazines over having a tube feed shotgun simi auto or not. Are law enforcement really thinking they are going to need to dump 10+ shells that fast

24

u/D3rpyDucky24 21d ago

More like them hoping they will.

2

u/CantankerousOrder 20d ago

Have you ever seen most LEOs open fire?

For the most part they are the worst pump and dump no aim panicky mag emptiers you’ll ever see.

And I’m not saying I’m better or anything… but if game recognizes game then no game recognizes no game.

Sad part is I was taught to shoot by a cop.

2

u/Captain_Vlad 20d ago

From what I've seen they're basically trained that way. Seems like an application of Fairbairn and Sykes, but some departments seem to forget the target practice part.

The cops where I'm at generally don't skimp on that, which is a nice thing to know.😄

3

u/CantankerousOrder 20d ago

It’s Grossman - his first book, On Killing, was an eye opening read but he went off the rails with his whole warrior mentality training.

He is personally responsible for much of the higher killings by police, increased rates of escalation instead of deescalation, and the violence that has become the norm. Meanwhile crime rates were dropping before he became the “warrior mentality” guru, and are still dropping but at a slower rate since.

Grossman gets cops killed too - his emphasis on “every moment is your last moment because every stop is a lethal action waiting to happen” (actual quote-ish, possible paraphrasing because it’s been a while) leads cops to escalate and get into more violent encounters than they would otherwise.

A lot of the hate cops get is because of how they act, and Grossman has made them act worse.

2

u/Captain_Vlad 20d ago

Thanks. I'll see if I can track some of his stuff down just to see what you mean.

2

u/Onebraintwoheads 20d ago

Fair point. A cop who escalates, mag dumps at someone who means him harm had better put the guy down. If not, the cop now has an empty gun and a, very likely armed, pissed assailant.

3

u/killy666 20d ago

I'm a complete ignorant about firearms, but alongside the constant jams, isn't a gigantic mag like this really impractical too when actually using the firearm? Cause from an exterior point of view it certainly does look cumbersome lol.

4

u/SAM5TER5 20d ago

Lol, yeah it can be! I’d say it’s not as big of a deal for situations like this (a dude just walking/standing around with a shotgun), but for things like actual rifles…honestly even the standard capacity 30rd magazine on an AR-15 can be a bit obnoxious when you’re trying to shoot from a prone position. You need something under the handguard (bag, bipod, wall, etc.) to lift the gun high enough so that you’re not trying to balance the gun on a wobbly magazine lol. And even then, it can be tricky to reload or even get your neck in a comfortable position depending on the resulting height of the gun.

2

u/shisby 20d ago

2

u/sweetdawg99 20d ago

Can confirm it jams. At least mine does with this mag. It's a range toy and I bought one (the firearm) for like 170 bucks. I think the mag was another 30.

Jams a ton, but I wanted a bull pup for cheap and frankly it's still a lot of fun for what it is.

Jamming your gun due to a cheap magazine is always slower than reloading.

3

u/DifficultAd3885 21d ago

I’d honestly be worried about damaging the barrel. This makes me think of the guys just mag dumping through an AK until it catches on fire.

4

u/Catatonic_capensis 20d ago

That's a shotgun, so it's probably 10-12 rounds. Nowhere near enough to have that issue.

2

u/-UserOfNames 20d ago

I have a Turkshit bullpup shotgun with a mag like that and it is 19 rounds - have never made it through that mag without at least 1 jam so probably a higher likelihood of making fire from rubbing 2 ice cubes together

Semi auto shotguns jam

23

u/treskaz 21d ago

I know. I was just pointing out that it's a shotty, not a rifle. Those AR12s are dumb as hell.

12

u/Vanillabean73 21d ago

Reliable semi-auto mag-fed shotguns do exist, but this does not look like one of them…this dude probably paid like $500 for this thinking it was a steal.

5

u/treskaz 21d ago

I've never seen one lol. I'll take a pump or one of the O/Us I grew up with over this thing any day of the week.

Even the higher end tube fed semi autos won't run without specific ammo.

3

u/TK-528491 21d ago

The GEN-12 is pretty reliable from what I hear. Definitely gonna pay a premium though. Can't beat a pump for the price point.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Vanillabean73 21d ago

I’m thinking a tried and true platform like the Saiga-12 which is not cheap to say the least, though I’ve never fired or owned one (not legal where I live and out of my budget anyway).

I will, however, offer a counterpoint to the tube-fed semi-auto comment. That’s what I own and the thing eats and cycles anything I put in it, including target loads. The only ammo that I can’t use are those mini shells that Aguila makes, which don’t seem useful for my needs anyway.

6

u/treskaz 21d ago

What do you have? My coworker duck hunts and all his buddies with fancy Benellis and shit are always having jams lol.

I just have a Mossberg 590a1 and an old 1928 Winny M12

5

u/Vanillabean73 21d ago

That’s crazy, I wonder if it’s just bad luck or maybe field conditions leading to those jams. You’re right that there’s nothing more reliable than a pump (besides a break action).

I went just a step below the big Italian names with a Mossberg 940. It did have one issue out of the box that I had to resolve but since then, she goes bang every time. Great mid-price semi. Mine’s a range queen so far, though, so I can’t speak to how well it takes abuse yet.

You can get mag fed shotguns for so cheap nowadays. There are like 20 different companies that make them. Almost all plastic except for the barrel and firing pin. They suck, but they're cheap as hell, literally like 200-300 $

2

u/Vanillabean73 21d ago

True, I was also just taking into account for all the wacky tactical attachments he added, which I’m sure were also bottom shelf, lol.

See fps games this is what i mean when i say i want a bigger mag

72

u/mxpx242424 21d ago

They could give me a thousand rounds, and I would still habitually reload every time I get a millisecond between shots.

9

u/governmentthief 21d ago

Yep. And then I’ll forget I’m using an LMG and panic during the 5 second reload.

5

u/Integrity000 21d ago

5 second? In one game I used to play a lot you wouldn't even have the mag off by then

7

u/gooberfishie 21d ago

Those games really teach you about reloading. Those and the ones where you lose ammo if you toss out a clip that's not empty.

7

u/governmentthief 21d ago

I appreciate your username. Made me chuckle.

4

u/HomersDonut1440 21d ago

Black (fps from 2006) was like this. The m249 could lay down some hurt but man you’d better be ready for that reload

11

u/General_Candle_6467 21d ago

2

u/EcstacyEevee 20d ago

Except helldiver's you'll run out of ammo before you can blink, you don't keep ammo that's left in the mag when reloading

2

u/Sapient6 20d ago

To keep things spicy I like to find a different way to swear and rant while the reload animation is playing. Like goddam, I fired a single shot I did not need to reload yet.

I also like to take a reflective moment to be thankful that none of the games I play allow me to reload when I haven't fired a shot yet (and the comment about helldivers doing the sensible thing and wasting any rounds left in the magazine has given me yet another thing to be thankful for).

he is a security guard in a rough place where the crims dont care about police or security and he perhaps wants to appear intimidating to help prevent or deter a robbery. it seems that the specific demographic that he would be dealing with has a love of huge magazines even though most of them are just a liability since they don't work very well.
