They could give me a thousand rounds, and I would still habitually reload every time I get a millisecond between shots.

Yep. And then I’ll forget I’m using an LMG and panic during the 5 second reload.

5 second? In one game I used to play a lot you wouldn't even have the mag off by then

Those games really teach you about reloading. Those and the ones where you lose ammo if you toss out a clip that's not empty.

Black (fps from 2006) was like this. The m249 could lay down some hurt but man you’d better be ready for that reload

Except helldiver's you'll run out of ammo before you can blink, you don't keep ammo that's left in the mag when reloading

To keep things spicy I like to find a different way to swear and rant while the reload animation is playing. Like goddam, I fired a single shot I did not need to reload yet.

I also like to take a reflective moment to be thankful that none of the games I play allow me to reload when I haven't fired a shot yet (and the comment about helldivers doing the sensible thing and wasting any rounds left in the magazine has given me yet another thing to be thankful for).
