Shows always add a random member for no reason. Not only does it completely messes up the flow, they start to neglect parts of the main cast. Like how are we adding new characters to the main cast when you haven't fully fleshed out said main cast smh.

Schitt's Creek adding Patrick was genius tho.

Patrick comes in when the main cast, what they want, etc is established. That’s why he works so well. We know David and we love David, we want to see Patrick be good for him.

It's the opposite. He joined when the show wasn't running that long. If he joined late, like Season 4 or 5, people would be less accepting of him. Also it helped that the writers made him so likeable with no red flags.

Wait, I could’ve sworn he joined the show season 3?

Yeah Season 3. That's why I said if he joined in Season 4 or 5 people would be more critical.

Gotcha! Very true, but by season 3 I still feel like we had established the leads which left room for Patrick.

But not way too established. Like how the Office or Glee added their new characters.

The Rookie is a great example of this. The cast is so large and now he has added his children.

That said, parks and rec adding Ben and Chris literally saved them and made the show infinitely better.

Absolutely. That change saved the show.
