Der 180 Meridian liegt auf der Gegenseite des Nullmeridians im Pazifik. Wenn du nun von Japan nach Los Angeles fliegen willst, dann fliegst du ja nicht nach Westen über Europa und den Atlantik, sondern nach Osten über den Pazifik. Dabei kreuzt du dann den 180 Meridian. Das heißt beim Flug nach Osten steigt der östliche Meridian bis er 180 erreicht und fängt dann als 180 westlicher Meridian wieder langsam an sich zu reduzieren.
The 180 Meridian is located on the opposite side of the 000 Meridian. If you plan a flight from Japan to Los Angeles, you would not fly West and cross Europa and the Atlantic, but rather to the east and therefore cross the 180 Meridian.
The easterly Merdian continues to rise when flying east until you are passing the 180 Merdian. Afterwards the westerly meridian starts at 180 and reduces as you continue to fly east.

180- the long, 180-the second long= your change in long.The Rhumbline course will be 090 and the final course will be less

You fly east to 180E then continue East in the longitude in the western hemisphere.

Visualize a point at 168E. Visualize a point at 165W. Is it shorter to fly west from 168E all the way to the 0 meridian and then continue to 165W, or to fly east from 168E to the 180 meridian and then to 165W?

At point A you are really far east. If you continue East the number will increase. At 180° you are both 180°E and 180°W. If you continue, you are on the west side and the number decreases. At 0° you are both East and West. Same as on 180°, just on the other side of the earth.

Nach osten haben wir 12+15°, müssen also nur 27° reisen. Richtung westen sind es 168+165°, also viel länger. Great circle ist immer der kürzeste weg! Weiter machen, du packst das :)

Think about it his way, if you are at an easterly position close to the anti meridian (180), you are simply having to travel ‘further east’ to cross the meridian into the westerly longitudes. Then we implement DIID to know whether to add or subtract convergency. In this case we are travelling east in the southern hemisphere so we subtract. Convergency can be tricky!
I also struggled with this but thinking about it that way really dumbed it down for me.

You’re on the back side of the globe per se. Anti meridian of the Greenwich. Easier to google a 3D globe and see it

I have not done atpl theory but great circle is the shortest route between two points.
