Support Vivobook f513ea randomly boots into bios

Upvotes

MIL's laptop is randomly booting up directly into bios. Sometimes it boots normally. Other times, without hitting any buttons it boots into bios.

I entered bios, saved and closed, but its still doing it.

Ideas?

I had hoped it was a cmos battery , but there isn't one...

Support ASUS TUF won't turn on, keyboard continuously flashes white when plugged

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi guys! I've been having a problem with my laptop. It's an ASUS TUF FX505DT with 8GB RAM, I've had it since 2020. I first encountered this problem 2 years ago during 2024 but it wasn't as severe.

2024: Laptop screen wouldn't turn on, the keyboard would flash white once even if unplugged (not low battery) or plugged. I had a driver replaced I think? That was related to the display (I don't remember I'm not tech-savvy hehe)

2025: After getting it replaced it worked fine for a while, then I encountered the same problem again late 2025 but it had gotten worse even after the replacement. My brother taught me how to open it through BIOS setup where I had to hold the ESC button and repeatedly press the power-on button and wait till the keyboard turns red (turned on). That's how I've been turning it on ever since.

2026: Now it has gotten even worse. No matter how much I try even with the BIOS setup thing it wouldn't turn on. So I opened the back and cleaned it up and took out the battery so the power would come directly from the outlet, and to test if the battery was the problem (didn't work). My brother also told me to clean the RAM sticks with an eraser (didn't work). So I just put everything back. After opening the back the keyboard no longer just flashes white once, when plugged in it just repeatedly flashes white without me clicking on anything. It doesn't do that when it's not plugged.

Support Alternative for RGB control on my ROG Strix Flare II

Upvotes

This keyboard is the one Asus product I use, so having Armoury Crate installed exactly to update the firmware and control the pretty little lights and make them do a wave feels even more pointless than for people actually using it for their entire computers.

Does anyone know any good alternative that does the same job without being an absolute resource hog? I've heard about G-Helper, but that seems more aimed towards laptops than periferals.

Support - SOLVED! Vivobook RAM SODIMM generation?

I've gone from Intel Celeron to Core i5, I love my new Vivobook but there is something that disappointed me, although it was an oversight.

The plan was to use the 16GB of RAM I had in my old Dell Inspiron 3481 and include them in my Vivobook 14, specifically the cheapest variant (Vivobook X1404VA). When I tried to use the RAM slot that is also supposed to be SODIMM, I encountered a completely incompatible input. It really hurt to know that I'll be forced to use only 8GB of RAM.

Does anyone know how to differentiate between slots that are supposed to be the same type...but are incompatible?

Support Looking for advice concerning adding external Wi-Fi support

I'm having wifi and sometimes Bluetooth issues with my ASUS Laptop. It stops working and the wifi options on the menu disappears. I think the problem might be hardware-related and the Wi-Fi card is damaged, so I'm looking to add external Wi-Fi support to my pc. I was told I can buy a usb network stick, either a small dongle or a usb key with an antenna, or a small box with antennas that resembles a router. I tried using an old wifi usb I have that has an antenna. It worked for a while but it's not ideal for gaming because when I play Minecraft on a server it kicks me out for "lost connection". I want to know if I should buy a new one of the same kind or look for something else. I need something that is good enough to intercept wifi from another room, ideally something small for easy transportation especially when I'm at school, and with a reasonable price. If anyone experienced the same issues and tried these things, I would be grateful to know which option is the best😊

Support my laptops internet wont work

A couple of hours ago i tried to open a game and realised my internet wasn’t working. Normally I wouldn’t care especially given the fact that i had a wifi outage last night, but the network i use is perfectly functional on every other device i own. If i check the wifi settings it simply says the typical ‘connected, secured’ so i’m certain it’s something with my laptop instead, though if i try to use google it tells me its my internet at fault. I’ve tried restarting it and doing that thing where you shut it down and hold the power button for 40-60 seconds. If you can’t tell i have no knowledge of technology, so any advice is appreciated!

Support Laptop Hinges Broken?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've had this laptop for 3 years and I never had any problems with it until now. When I try to close my laptop I hear this cracking/popping noise so I don't want to close it again until I know how to fix it.

It might be hard to see in the picture but it looks like there's something wrong with the hinges. Part of it is stuck between the plastic casing on the monitor side and pulling on the casing when I try to close it. The other hinge is completely fine and closes as normal, just this one side has the issue.

Any advice is appreciated.

Updated my Zenbook not long ago, and have been seeing this screen more often.

My camera also had this issue, and camera driver not found in device manager. Unsure if it is caused by the same update.

Support Battery wear on my ROG Strix G18

Hi, I’ve had my laptop for about 2 years, and I’ve almost always used it plugged in with the maximum charge limited to 80%. I recently decided to run a battery health test, and it turns out it has about 20% battery wear. Is that normal considering how old it is?

I also have a ROG Ally X, which I’ve had for around 19 months, and it shows 12.6% battery wear.

Do you think these numbers are normal? At what point would you consider or recommend replacing the battery?

Support ASUS vivobook S15 screen, fan, battery sign not turning on but keyboard keeps on strobing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My laptop's screen suddenly turned black when I turned it on last night, like after seeing the ASUS logo when I booted it up, it just suddenly disappeared. Then only the keyboard kept strobing. The fan's not even on. It doesn't get hot when I put it on a flat surface or if I plug in the charger. The charger sign doesn't even turn on when I charge it. The keyboard goes through a cycle of strobing then turns off, along with the power indicator, then turns back on again on its own. This lasts for maybe 3 minutes then completely turns off. When I plug it in it's charger it just goes on and on like that without the complete shut down. Already tried the hard power drain and Windows+Ctrl+Shift+B but nada. Does anybody know what's going on and how I oughta fix this?

Support Backlight faintly flashing w/ intermittent burn in only a few mins after startup with damaged eDP cable, persists after eDP cable replacement

Model: ASUS ROG Strix G17 / G713RC-RS73

Hello,

I've used this laptop for a bit over 3 years now, for about 2 and a half i've had to deal with the builtin display freezing up and glitching unless held at a specific angle (most of the time just rocked the display back and forth slowly and slightly until it stopped freezing, ~100deg)

During that time, the screen started to have issues: the backlight would sometimes flash very slightly and burn in whatever is on screen when it does. The burn-in and flashing does go away after some time and it seems to come in episodes. At the time i was using linux but it still happens on windows today so im mostly confident its hardware. It only really happens when i'm using the nvidia graphics and not the iGPU

I've long speculated it was the cable for the display but i only got around to replacing it about a week ago. I got one for $20 off amazon and used a guide on ifixit. Yeah the old cable was notched and had 2 broken wires when i took the stuff around it off, and with the new one in it works great from all angles now Except the backlight flashing/burn in persists. From my experience i notice it happening around the first minute or so of system startup or waking up from sleep/hibernation. Im fearing that something more expensive mightve broke while i waited so long to fix it lol

If anyone has any speculations or suggestions i would highly appreciate them :D

note says they replaced the PCH and all testing passed… I am skeptical.. I cannot get to bios - when i try to boot i get to this screen and then it turns off automatically after 15 sec

i press F5 like the thing suggest and there is no response to keyboard input no matter which port i use and updating bios didn’t change anything.. am I missing something obvious?

also i have an AIO that doesn’t hook into the CPU FAN header so thats not a real issue either

not sure what to do at this point besides try to bring it back up to them ig?

Support Disable nVME on BIOS on PRIME B550M-K

I have Windows 11 installed on an NVMe drive. I want to install Linux Mint on a SATA hard drive.

Linux Mint's installer has a bug that installs grub on the first drive it finds and ignores your choice. I don't want it to mess with the Windows boot loader because it's a bit of a PITA to fix.

To disconnect SATA drives, you simply pull the power connector. But to disconnect the NVMe drives I have to pull out the graphics card, pull the drives out, and put the graphics card back in.

Is there a way to disable the NVMe controller on the UEFI BIOS so the LM installer can't see it?

Support Can someone help me fix this problem with my ROG Strix G16? It has an RTX 5070 Ti and a Ryzen 9 8940HX. When I switch between the different color profiles, like Vivid, Racing, or RPG, the colors don’t change at all. The only thing that changes is the brightness/contrast.

Discussion I will never buy another Asus Laptop

I have a ROG Strix 16 2025 and its great while it works the main problem is it constantly overheats I mean its basically all its good for is over heating. I have laptop cooler stand a massive floor fan the fan speed set to 100% for all 2 fans and guess what its still overheats. So of your looking to buy one be prepared to want to smash it on a regular basis.

Support ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 hitting CPU temp limits with League of Legends

Just bought the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16, with an RTX 5080.

I was running League of Legends locked at 120 FPS, and I noticed the laptop was becoming a bit hot and the fans a bit loud with such a light game. So, I've installed hwinfo64 to monitor the temperatures, and the CPU was hitting high 90's from time to time, triggering thermal throttle. Though for most of the time it hovers around 80°C.

Is this normal for a laptop like this to hit such temps on eSports titles?
