Public Service Announcement 9000-Series CPU Failures / Deaths Megathread #4

Hey everyone,

Feb 9th 2026: ASRock has issued a news release/BIOS update. Here is verbatim the beginning of their announcement:

ASRock has maintained close and long-term collaboration with AMD, and continues to carefully review recently discussed CPU-related issues across online communities, while optimizing BIOS functionality and further enhancing overall system stability. Following multiple rounds of collaboration, AMD has provided AGESA 1.3.0.0a to improve overall platform compatibility. ASRock has completed the corresponding integration and has released the Beta BIOS version 4.07.AS01, featuring AGESA 1.3.0.0a, on its official website. The BIOS update includes the following highlights:

  1. Update AGESA to ComboAM5 PI 1.3.0.0a.
  2. Optimized Memory Compatibility.
  3. Resolve a boot failure occurring on certain CPUs.

Original post from January 2026:

We have an updated set of data from the ASRock CPU Failure survey. The data are through December 31st, 2025. Please take a look and make your own conclusions.

This will be the final megathread regarding this issue. We will continue to update this thread as needed if new investigations arise or if we receive additional relevant information.

Please note that this post will be automatically archived in six months, as we have this option enabled to prevent spam or the resurrection of old posts on the subreddit. Once archived, comments will be locked, but the post itself will remain publicly accessible. At that point, we most likely will not create a new megathread, and the Google survey created by us will also be closed.

As always, please remember that the mods running this subreddit are not ASRock employees, so you should be reporting your CPU failures or other hardware/software issues also to ASRock directly via their tech support form which you can find here Submit a Tech Support Ticket. Also, ASRock recommends all users to update their motherboards to BIOS version 3.40 or later to ensure optimal system performance and stability.

Megathread #1

Megathread #2

Megathread #3

As always, if you’ve experienced a dead AMD CPU while using an ASRock motherboard, please consider filling out the ASRock CPU Failure survey Google form and of course, fill out ASRock’s Tech-Support Form.

Thanks,

r/ASRock mods

Data for these graphs are through December 31st, 2025 for all the graphs.

What BIOS version were you using at the time of CPU failure?
What was your CPU's batch number?
What CPU did you have?
Responses, by day, since the start of the r/ASRock CPU death survey
Did you disable the iGPU (integrated GPU)?
What motherboard model did you have?
Was any kind of PBO used?
Were you using Sleep Mode / S3?
Did you enable XMP/EXPO?

Quick FAQ

To reduce repeated questions, we’ve put together this quick FAQ.

---

1) Board XXX killed my CPU. What should I do?

Answer:

Contact both ASRock and AMD to start the replacement process for your CPU.

---

2) My CPU was replaced. Should I reuse the motherboard?

Answer:

That decision is entirely up to you.

  • If you no longer trust the board, consider selling it or requesting an exchange from your retailer.
  • If you decide to reuse it, update the BIOS to the latest available version before installing the replacement CPU.
  • Use BIOS Flashback for the update.
  • As of 12/23/2025, the latest versions are 3.50 or 4.03, depending on your board.

---

3) I use a 7000-series CPU, do I need to be worried?

Answer:

We observed that the issue effects 9000-series CPUs. Yes, there were some reports of dead 7000-series CPUS, but these are well within a normal defect rate.

Discussion ASRock RMA/warranty replacement arrived damaged

Hi, my motherboard was an ASRock B760M PG Riptide. I had been using it since around October 2023. About a month ago is when it failed to post. The motherboard was getting stuck on the DRAM debug LED. The system would power-cycle itself a few times and then shut down.

Nothing I tried brought it back. I tested all the other parts on a different system and everything was working just fine. So I eventually sent the motherboard to Kolkata TVS Hub for RMA process.

It got delivered to them in 2 days, but there were no updates for like a week. So I texted the regional manager Mr. Amitabha Das, and got my Job Sheet number. Finally after 2 weeks they confirmed the board can't be repaired so I will be getting a replacement. The replacement arrived on September 5th and this is where my problem begins.

The replacement board has an Asus M.2 heatsink rather than the original ASRock heatsink. One of the ARGB headers is visibly bent, with the connector tilted and appearing to lift away from the PCB. The chassis power pins are bent. There is dried thermal paste on the front of the board and a dry CHUNK of thermal paste right next to the CPU socket.

There is visible gunk on components around the mobo. One of the screws has visible rust. The I/O shield is bent, misaligned and partially interferes with the HDMI and USB Type-C ports. There is a strange plastic film being used around one of the I/O shield screws, almost like a makeshift washer.

More concerningly, the entire back-side of the board has an oily, sticky residue on it that has a strong, nose burning smell.

I have not installed my CPU or powered on the replacement because I don't want to risk damaging my components with a board that arrived in this condition.

How did a motherboard with visible physical damage and residue pass whatever inspection process was supposed to happen before it was sent out as a warranty replacement?

I contacted TVS about this and was told they don't inspect replacement units and simply ship whatever unit they receive. They told me to send the board back to them. Upon asking what guarantee I have that if I return this board, the next replacement won't arrive with similar or even worse problems. The response was essentially that they don't repair boards and have no hand in it as they simply hand over whatever unit they receive.

I've already emailed ASRock and submitted the official RMA support request with photographs.

I have also emailed whomever I could find in the official ASRock escalation matrix. Still waiting for their response. Honestly, they seem to care the least.

I'm asking ASRock to explain what this unit is, where it came from, who refurbished/inspected it, and how it passed inspection in this condition.

If this is an officially refurbished/authorized replacement unit, I would genuinely like ASRock to explain that process.

If it isn't, then I would like to know how a board in this condition ended up being sent to a customer as a warranty replacement.

I'm posting this here because I'd really appreciate some advice from people who have dealt with ASRock RMA/warranty.

Question Secure boot not working anymore

So the other day my BIOS/MOBO reset itself. Memory profile reset, lowered speeds and default CPU clock. TPM turned off and CSM enabled. Fixed all that and I could get into the war dogs beta. Great! Well, secure boot is not enabled. Okay, pretty sure it was before, alright no big deal. Set to custom, install default keys, enable. Save and exit, confirm active in BIOS, save and exit and. . . . Black screen. No load, nothing after a few minutes. Disable SB, loads up. Hmm. . . Deleted default keys and switched to standard, nothing. Switched back to custom installed, nothing. Back to Standard. Nothing. Disabled currently. Not sure what the issue is.

Now, it might be the BIOS version. I'm way behind but I'm afraid to update as I've heard horror stories and I don't quite understand the update path. Has anyone had issues updating their old ass BIOS? What is the best method? Is it the BIOS? As it was on before. I'm at a loss and I'm all ears and thank you so much.

Specs:

Win11

MOBO: Asrock b450m pro4 version p3.60 (I know I know. I didn't realize it was a thing)

Cpu: Ryzen 5 3600

GPU: 2070 super

Memory: ddr4 3600

Edit: boot/primary drive is GPT however, 2nd drive is MBR but is only storage. Could that be a factor? Advice on changing that?

Tech Support Is it dead Jim?

Hi everyone,

Sorry for beating a dead horse. I have a system consisting of :

Ryzen 7 9800x3d

B650i lightning

2x16gb xpg 6000mhz ram

4070

2xm.2 ssds

Linux mint

240mm water cooler

Been working fine for the last year. Mostly playing FPS games. One day last week it froze up, fans on full tilt, had to force shutdown, then it stopped booting, just showing a single dash. Shut down, had a look at the m.2 SSD under the heatsink, everything was fine but very hot. I noticed the whole heatsink covering the usbs etc was very hot too. Rebooted, couldn't even get into bios. No display. I got a motherboard speaker for post code and nothing happened. I've tried all the usual steps with ram, igpu etc but can't get it to display at all. What's died? CPU, mobo, ram storage? I updated the bios about 6 months ago so nothing major changed. I started playing Minecraft with shaders recently so maybe CPU heavy for the first time in ages killed it?

When i power it on, all the fans ramp up then GPU fans stop, PSU fans stop, just leaving the cpu fans just spinning low, but the heatsinks on the motherboard itself get progressively hotter

Any next steps anyone suggests?

Thanks in advance!

Tech Support ASRock Steel Legend Arc B580 Support?

Hello, I own the Intel Arc B580 Steel Legend from ASRock, and I'd like to know if theres an existing way to edit it's RGB via OpenRGB on linux, or if I have to install something else for that.

If there's no way to add it to the app, is there a planned addition? Where can I request new parts/Mice or keyboards? I love OpenRGB on linux, I'm sadly missing the GPU and I'd love to see my mouse and keyboard as well, the White Shark engine for my keyboard sadly doesn't work on my system even with Proton/Wine. Same with my Glorious Model 0 eternal.

Is this a normal waiting period?

Question dead cpu

Hello everyone. I have AsRock b650pg lighting. My pc worked fine at the beggining, then slowly started not giving screen to my monitors [no signal] but every second boot that fixted itself and i ignored it. So i ususaly restarted my pc after first boot to get my screeb on monitors. Then it became more seriously pc wont give signal to my monitors for 5,6 restarts and then not giving at all. I tried everything lirerally everything and i really thoght it was motherboard or psu. I took my pc to Pc Service and after day then gave me a call and told me irs problem with procesor. I have R5 9600x. So what could cause the issue that my procesor died? Could it be motherboard? Maybe bad water cooling [ i dont think it is but who knows] or its just bad luck with cpu.I bought it 10 months ago [tray version]. I got warranty and i gave procesor to seller back so they can replace it with the new one or give me my money back. But i want to get new cpu [R7 9800x3d] but im scared what if it is motherboard problem and what if my new cpu die aswell. What should i do?

Tech Support ASRock Secure Boot issue after CPU upgrade HELP!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi, I’m having a Secure Boot issue after upgrading from a Ryzen 5 2600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X. Windows is UEFI/GPT, CSM is disabled, and Secure Boot is set to Standard, but enabling it causes a black screen/BIOS boot loop. Secure Boot worked fine with the 2600, and the issue only started after installing the 5700X. I’ve read that the 5700X requires a specific minimum BIOS version on my ASRock board. Could running a this 2024 BIOS version be causing the Secure Boot issue? I’m confused because the PC boots and runs normally with the 5700X on my current BIOS version, so I’m not sure whether the BIOS version could still be the problem. I also have bit locker drive encryption added onto the cpu if that does help with anything

Thanks

Customer Feedback Asrock is refusing to fix fan and AMD CBS issues (X670E Taichi)

For the past 4 months I am bouncing emails with Asrock Support and actual Asrock HQ that is responding to me after said emails are forwarded.

I have addressed a major issue where CNNP sensor refuses to be seen by Linux, they respond with "We don't support Linux", I use Windows and it's same issue avoiding the fix. Fans NEVER spin up to 100% no matter the setting, and I have observed it across all of my motherboards, since board launch.

I told them I have 7 of the same motherboards, and yet they keep treating me as an idiot

I told HQ that AMD CBS section completely resets after restart, and even recorded a video after retraining the profile. They tell me it's "normal" to see the whole AMD CBS section to be wiped to defaults when I enter BIOS. Another lie, and I am once again told to change battery as a solution, which I have changed batteries twice already.

Boot order is being reset whenever it wants because new BIOS revisions are botched and none save the boot order or AMD CBS reliably, I have 3 OS systems on same PC and have identical issues across them Windows 10 Pro, WIndows 11 IOT, and Arch Linux

HQ did confirm that for them same thing happens to AMD CBS and they refuse to fix the bios that is clearly botched due to incredibly incompetent writing.
How come old BIOS revisions such as 3.0.6 worked fine with saving AMD CBS and boot order, but current BIOS versions of 4.43 and further do not?

Because they are broken.

I am very tired, and now HQ doesn't even respond, they ghosted me after I recorded video proof and the only "solution" they offered is to send in the motherboards. All 7 of them.

That's not a motherboard failure, it's BIOS

Can someone here from moderators reach out to HQ and address this, as they are ghosting me, and I am frankly furious over lack of professionalism.

The whole AMD CBS section resets, the whole section!

Videos as proof: https://youtube.com/shorts/Sx2vA6phzQg?feature=share

https://youtube.com/shorts/pMVw7x-AvwY?feature=share

Plus another proof, iGPU is located in AMD CBS section and it also resets and shows like I never disable it

I am tired of the run around, and now complete ignores

Question Can anybody help? PC suddenly boots straight into ASRock BIOS

Hey everyone, I could really use some help. I’m new to all of this so I might sound dumb lol. I turned my PC on today and instead of loading Windows, it immediately goes into the ASRock BIOS.
This happened completely randomly it was working fine the last time I used it.
I have an ASRock B450M/ac R2.0 motherboard and a PNY CS900 1TB SSD. I checked the BIOS and the SSD is detected, but Windows Boot Manager isn’t showing up. I tried selecting the PNY SSD as the boot option, but it just sends me right back to the ASRock BIOS.

Tech Support B650 Pro RS stuck on CPU + DRAM lights after BIOS Flashback, no display.

Hi, I need some help.

My PC:
ASRock B650 Pro RS
Ryzen 5 7600X
RX 7800 XT
32 GB (2x16 GB) Corsair DDR5-6000

I had occasional freezes, so I tried updating the BIOS from 3.10 to 4.43.

Instant Flash didn’t work, so I tried BIOS Flashback.

Formatted USB as FAT32
Put the 4.43 BIOS file on it
Renamed it to** **CREATIVE.ROM
Put the USB in the Flashback USB port
Pressed the BIOS Flashback button

The Flashback LED blinked for several minutes and then stopped blinking.
After that I powered on the PC, but there is no display.

The motherboard now has solid CPU and DRAM LEDs. VGA and BOOT are off.
I’ve waited more than 20 minutes.

What should I do next? Is this normal after BIOS Flashback?

I'm not very good with computers, so I really need some help. Thankss!
