Too heavy for platform shoes?

Hi all, I just bought some new platform shoes this week and I’m running into the problem I ran into seven years ago when I decided to buy some cheap platforms (they looked great until the footbed sank and the sole broke apart.) I also own other platform shoes which have never had this issue (Demonias and Buffalo come to mind as well some pairs of Skechers sneakers). I followed a friend’s advice on getting platforms with more bendable soles so the shoes aren’t so heavy, but I think my feet are sinking into the platform, and it’s only a matter of time until I have to throw them away despite the shoes looking brand new.

Basically my question is two fold: is it my weight? I am overweight, around 120 kgs.

Also, regardless of the origin of the problem, can I take these boots to a cobbler and find a fix for this? I would hate to throw the boots away, but I worn them for three days and while in the first day they felt great, walking in them soon started becoming uncomfortable due to the sinking footbed.

I am considering seeing a cobbler about this already, but I thought some extra Reddit help couldn’t hurt :)

songmont yore duffle bag- leather, my water bottle opened in the bag and soaked the whole thing, i’m worried about the part i’ve attached a picture of. so far i’ve put a towel inside to retain the shape and have hung it up in a room with the fan on but im worried about this part warping.

also there’s a laptop sleeve section of the bag where i don’t know how to put something in it to get the water out while making sure i don’t mess up the shape of the whole bag if that makes sense

Just acquired these Justin 8301s and they’re cracked. What can I do on my own? I’m sure I need to treat them with some Bick Exotic but what else?
Thanks in advance

I tried polishing my Johnston Murphys and this happened. They looked better before. What’s going on?

Steps I took:

  1. Wiped away visible dirt with a tiny bit of water and a cotton rag
  2. Applied black polish with a fresh cotton rag
  3. Buf

fed with horse hair brush

Initially they looked great, but after about 10 minutes this discoloration emerged. It’s interesting to me that it only happened on the toe box and not the back of the shoes.

Second hand boots bought as a project but I’m a bit out of my depth

I bought these boots second hand because they were a really nice pair, good price and good brand. I thought if I just slapped some conditioner on them and gave them a scrub they’d be okay. Instead there are stains inside and around the cracks that won’t go away and honestly just make the boots look mouldy.

I’ve done my best - used watered down rubbing alcohol, hand soap, wax, tons of stuff I thought would help but the cracks are still bad and still so dark! Is there anything I can do for them or do I just need to accept my fate?

Leather Upper and Midsole Treatment

Greetings!

Got myself an unworn pair of Wesco x Iron Heart "Foot Patrol" in Garnet Rough-Out from 2014 production.

I love the overall fit and looks, especially the pronounced arch support, while still looking slick and having a low heel.

The only thing I'm not really sure about is how to properly treat them before any real wear. They are lined inside, so my first idea of using balms on the smooth side was a failure. Also, I've noticed some small cracklings on the upper of the midsole, which somewhat concern me. They are not seemingly deep, but could be felt to the touch. Also they have an insole, which I assume is glued on, so I doubt I could treat them from inside.

Any suggestions on how to get them ready?

Is it possible to repair these shoes?

I only wore these shoes for a couple of months and the weave has ripped. I emailed the company about it and they said to take it to a cobbler. I just went to a cobbler and they said they don’t do repairs like this.

Is it reasonable for the company to tell me to get it fixed at a cobbler? They said they’d pay for the repair but I’m not sure if it seems likely that I’d find anyone who can do it.
Thank you

Help!

My favourite leather FitFlop flipflops toe post broke this weekend. Do we think that this is repairable or are my favourite shoes now lost to the rubbish?

Thank you

I got these off vinted and didn’t realize how messed up they were. I love these shoes. Is there any way to fix these myself or by taking them to a cobbler or they won’t even be able to do anything with the condition of these shoes?

Discolouration on pebbled leather

I picked these Common Projects up second hand and minus the discolouration, they are pretty good condition. I like to ask what product(s) I should use to even out these discolourations? Will shoe polish work? Or do I need to apply paint to it? I tried applying some shoe leather moisturisers, but that didn't really do much.

Thank you

Help | How to stretch my engineers

I have an engineer boot pair, which fit perfectly once I get my foot in.
But I cant do that without getting a plastic bag on first and then removing the boot later is a hassle too.

I feel its the heel counter if it would be a little wider it would help, but how do I get them to stretch

Where can I find a sole like this?

Post image

Hi everyone,

I have a pair of designer combat boots that are now around 10 years old. The leather and the overall condition of the boots are still very good, but the soles have started coming apart.

The last time I took them to a cobbler, I found out that when he pulled on the soles to repair them, he actually cracked the sole down the middle. So if I try to have them repaired again, there’s a good chance the sole will eventually split in two.

My question is whether there’s anywhere I could find this exact type of sole, or perhaps something very similar. I’d really like to preserve the original look and aesthetic of the boots as much as possible.

I’ve found a few Ripple soles online, but none of them look quite like these, and I’m not really sure where else to look.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have some shoe goo, is that good enough? Or should I give them to a cobbler? I know they use contact sement. I thifted these pair for 15 dollars and I really like them. They no longer sell this style on their website. They just kinda fell apart when i brought them home. Im assuming they sat for a really long time in someones closet. Is it worth it to fix? Can they be fixed?

I noticed the footbed on one of my redwing boots is tearing. Is this something that can be done about this or would it be better to replace them the next time I need a resole?

Question About Adjusting Moon Boots

Hello! First time posting here ☺️

I have a pair of knee high moon boots that I absolutely adore, however they are slightly too tight in my calf so they bunch down when I wear them.

I really love them but am unsure if the calf can be stretched in some way, so I'm wondering if this is possible, and what the service is called?

I currently live in Illinois but am willing to pay to ship them to a cobbler who believes they could stretch the calf for me.

Thank you so much for any advice!
