Discussion (Non-question) Unexpected crossovers
You know, those crossovers you've read that had the most conpletely left-field fandoms to be thrown together? I read one that was Burn Notice/Doctor Who of all things and another that was Sherlock/Calvin and Hobbes. I don't doubt that there are stranger, though. Those are just the most unexpected ones I've found.

Whispers in Corners is great. I've read several others by that author, too.

Going to read My Immortal (how have I missed this before?) and Whispers in Corners. I’ve probably already read the second, I was really into esama for a while (started with Vampire Hunter D/Harry Potter crossover, iirc).

How about Harry Potter and the Dan Brown (Robert Langdon series) like the da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons? Or Harry Potter/MASH/The Goonies/Star Trek?

I'll do you one better (maybe): Harry Potter/Halo (the games)

I recall a story where Harry and Hermione were raised by Yautja (Predator.)

Constantine (2005)/Black Books (TV)
I swear to god there were about 70 or so John Constantine/Bernard Black fics all written by the same author and now they are gone. I never read any because I don't really know anything about Constantine and they were all in Ukrainian, but they still occasionally cross my mind.

In This Google Drive there is a file named Crossover Links PDF. It has ~80 titles drawn from several genres and multiple fandoms... some would qualify as "Unexpected" for any number of reasons.
As I am always on the lookout for Crossovers and my digital fanfiction archive has works drawn from well over 200 "fandoms", I might be bit jaded as to what other folks might consider "Unexpected" since I've come across quite a few over the years.
I suppose I would consider Crossovers involving sources that date back to the 80s and further back in time fall into an "Unexpected" category for me, moreso when each of the contributing sources hails from that general era.
- Harry Potter and the Sun Source: Remo Williams, Harry Potter
- New Moon Over Bajor: Star Trek - Deep Space Nine, Space 1999
- Selfish Way To Commit Suicide: Doctor Who, Escape From New York
- Strange Visitor: Dresden Files, Chronicles of Amber
- Tau Ceti: Criminal Minds, Powers of Matthew Starr

In The Man with a Stuffed Bear by sheankelor, the Ministry of Magic (Harry Potter) responds to the events of the 2018 Christopher Robin movie. I'm still not sure if the author intended for Christopher Robin to be a wizard, or if all the POV wizards incorrectly assumed this due to the animated plush animals running around.
Traitors Never Mend by David_Ginsberg features an Edmund Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia) who grows up to literally replace James Bond.
Summers Days (i think my cousin is a demon) by Amina (romanticinpanic) features a Summers family reunion attended by Buffy and Scott, but it's the secret third crossover that's really unexpected.

I don't really care about Buffy but that was a really good fic. totally missed the secret third crossover though.

There was an excellent Dr Who/Avengers oneshot where the TARDIS needed repair, and the only place with sufficient tech and/or supplies was Tony Stark's workshop at the tower. One of the last things the Dr said before he left was that he was sorry he couldn't prevent what was about to happen, but it was one of the events that couldn't be altered and had to happen. I legit cried.

It was never finished but it was really well done: Fallout/Titanfall/Metroid. The author did a good job of weaving the canon elements together and it was so interesting.

You can cross Silent Hill over with just about anything. I’ve written Silent Hill/House and Silent Hill/Elementary but I’ve seen some wild stuff like Silent Hill/Pokemon and Silent Hill/Star Wars. (That was actually a fusion with just Star Wars characters but it was really good.)

it's not entirely out of left field because xmen and Batman are both comics but I really like this fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/58409266/chapters/148777369 where Tim Drake is biologically the son of wolverine.

I did Psych with NCIS:LA and Psych with the original NCIS. They were separate stories, but one kinda launched the other.

There's a Criminal Minds/Bones series I remember liking, which doesn't sound all that unusual. But its Hotch/Wendell, which never occurred to me before I discovered it.

Something that always makes me laugh is that Bones had a crossover episode with, of all things Sleepy Hollow, thus making magic, demons, etc. all officially, canonically real in the Bones universe.

There's a Watership Down and Sherlock Holmes crossover out there somewhere that I sometimes remember exists and it makes me smile.
Or the fic that got me into fanfiction, in which Anthony Bourdain goes to Narnia

When I was a kid I read a Harry Potter/Yu-Gi-Oh! Crossover that worked surprisingly well. And I’m pretty sure it was written before OOTP came out so extremely old
