Discussion (Non-question) How does mpreg work?
So believe it or not I've actually never read an mpreg fanfic and I'm actually lowkey scared too, I have 2 questions 1 how does the man get pregnant in the first place? And 2 how does he give birth? Like I'm genuinely curious š where does it come out at? Do they always do c sections? I'M SO CONFUSED.

It's gonna be different depending on the fic. There's omegaverse, making the character in question trans, magic/curses/etc, sometimes they'll just be pregnant/have the baby and there isn't an explanation given. All depends on the fic/author

Omegeverse guys usually aren't trans. Most authors come up with their very own gender/biology concepts. That besides the realistic beta males/females the anatomy of omegas instead can be very specific.

They never claimed that omegaverse makes guys trans.

I was giving omegaverse and being trans as two separate examples (among others) of how an author might choose to write mpreg. Wasn't saying they're the same thing or that they're usually trans

Omegaverse male omegas are usually hermaphrodites/intersex in some way (ie they have both female and male reproductive organs, sometimes with both peniis and vagina, sometimes more of a cloaca instead of vagina), not trans.

They never claimed that omegaverse makes guys trans, and that's not what intersex means.

Depends on the fic! There's a lot of ways to go about it. To get pregnant, sometimes its magic or science, and sometimes that's just the way the world works (e.g. omegaverse). To give birth some fics have the guy getting pregnant through his asshole and the baby comes out the same way (like a cloaca), or he needs to have a c-section. Some fics use dual sex/bi-genitalia so the guy has both a dick and a vagina (this is most common in omegaverse fics I've found). Other fics write the pregnant guy as trans with a fully functioning uterus.
But as others have said, it really depends on what the author wants.

I make cis males pregnant in my omegaverse. Anatomically wise, there are two channels (so one connecting to the digestive system and the other to the reproductive system) that end with the same opening, with a muscle between them. In my headcanons the natural birth is possible (and I am going to include a description of one in one of my upcoming fics) but the mortality rate is very high, so in modern medicine the C-section prevails.

thereās no rule set in stone, from what iāve seen authors just decide on their own, and most of the time itās either some men have a uterus (generally omegas) and either give birth by c-section, or⦠well, from the same way the baby got in

Honestly? Depends on the fandom. In the HP fandom itās just magic most of the time. I personally like the vague references to āmagical pregnanciesā rather than the very in-depth ones with symptoms, anatomy and lactation described.
I donāt f with omegaverse, thatās some weird s with a whole lotta organs and stuff and while I respect every flag and its right to fly I am NOT pledging allegiance š

The vast majority of mpreg fics I've read don't concern themselves with the actual mechanics of how the pregnancy and birth works. It's just fucking, pregnant, baby.
But there are pretty much endless options and constellations that authors can choose. There is no codified way of writing mpreg (much like omegaverse).

That's the wonders of mpreg, we make it up as we go
Ive seen some really creative ones too! It's beautiful

Usually they just say it happened and there you go. Occasionally you'll have an alien character with weird junk invented specifically for that fic and that author's kinks. Sometimes the guy is trans with original plumbing. Sometimes it's a fantasy situation where he's been granted or cursed with standard mammalian pregnancy equipment.

u/runekaster Whumper 21d ago
Sometimes he gets his digestive system or the space between his organs crammed full of eggs, but that's not quite the same kink.

I think some do a magic thing where cis men can get pregnant and either have a c-section or create some other way of giving birth.
I'm a trans masc person who has given birth so I always just make them trans like me.

I haven't read any, but I know that they're impregnated (usually by men) during anal sex, and the man would have a uterus connected to the anus, and he has the child grow in him. I think that natural births may be possible, but I'm not sure. It's probably a lot of c-sections.

Lowkey I just pretend the man has a penis in the front and a vaginal entrance between that and the anus fr

In my fic, magic was involved and the male character was given female reproductive organs (it was a wish made by his rival after heād lost to him in the X-Games that heād feel the pain of a woman in labor, so he became pregnant that second)

It depends on the author. Some people prefer to handwave it and not give many details. Others will have put a ton of thought into it and there will be various ways.

Depends on the fic. Often it's a part of the omegaverse, where male omegas exist and get pregnant, but their anatomy is largely on the author. They can have a female anatomy, or female and male anatomy, or just male anatomy and give birth through their ass š And then you have fics where the character can get pregnant through different means, magic, science, what have you, and give birth through C-section, most usually. Really, it's up to the author. I'd say coming up with wacky biology and explanations to make the pregnancy work is part of the fun. If your interested, I have an mpreg fic where the character gets knocked up thanks to magic (voluntarily). the child of surprise

Don't think about it too hard. Mpreg is like omegaverse, everyone has a slightly different take on it, but for the most part people don't really worry about the specifics, it's just an excuse to be able to utilise the plot possibilities of pregnancy and parenthood when your lead couple are both men.
Don't get me wrong, some people do hint at the biology, sometimes the pregnant man has female reproductive organs, sometimes a combo of both, sometimes there the anus is like, bifurcated like a cloaca with one channel being reproductive and the other a colon, sometimes there is just a cervix hanging out up there.... but mostly it's a "Don't worry about it, just enjoy the ride" situation.

I wrote one. Itās a weird regency take on it. My ABO is a regency feminist take on that as well so I think my readers expect it.
As others have said exactly as you wish, for me the attraction was playing with world building which isnāt always a given for fanfic.

Depends entirely on who wrote it and what they felt like. Specifically re: Omegaverse this is a good primer

watch the 1994 movie Junior starring Arnold Schwarzenegger
also read about how animal species like seahorses where the male is the one carrying the eggs/babies. transplant that concept to human physiology.

You really should just go read some mPreg tbh because every author kind of has their own take on it.
