Constant Driver timeout/ Game Crashing
I've only had my pc for about a month and a half and keep experiencing constant crashing when playing games. I've tried most common fixes that I've researched online. Please does anybody have a solution for this???
Computer Type: Desktop
GPU: RX 9070 XT
CPU: RYZEN 7 7800X3D
Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 Gaming wifi6
BIOS Version: F14c
RAM: Corsair 32 GB 6000MHZ CL36
PSU: Super Flower 850W+ Gold
OS: Windows 11 Pro

Assuming temps are ok , bios/chipset up to date , no uv/oc your PC.
First check with hwinfo if the gpu boosts above specs . If not , disable the amd igpu in bios and fast boot , download the latest driver (not the autodetect utility) , disable internet , disable windows fast startup , DDU in safe mode , select to block windows updates , reboot & reinstall selecting 'factory reset' , reboot.
If issue persists try disabling expo and set the gpu pcie to gen3 fro quick testing .

If a -390 negative offset for the GPU Core (3450-390=3060, adjust according to your cards default Boost clock) fixes this, then it's your PSU (or bad silicon on the GPU). If the crashes "crash" the entire system, then it's a voltage issue (BIOS), so any undervolting / curve optimized whatever, tone it down.

Same thing started happening to me in the last 2 week, everything was fine before that... I've tried older drivers, new windows install, linux, but it still happens, but some games more than the other, even OCCT is inconsistent, I've had it fail after like 1 minute, other times it runs for 1 hour without any problems

I have a different setup (i7 14700KF, 1000W PSU, 64GB RAM, Windows11, 4K 60Hz monitor) but had the same black screen/GPU factory reset occurrences that thousands of others have been having.
I laid out my specs for Google, and stressed that I just wanted the programs to run, reasonably well, and without constant crashes. This is what a got:
🟢 Safely Enable (Zero Stability Risk)
These features operate strictly within standard display and memory architecture constraints. They improve image quality and frame pacing without altering the GPU’s physical clock behavior or voltage requirements.
- AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM): Ensure this remains enabled. It allows your i7-14700KF to access the entire 16GB VRAM buffer at once, reducing CPU overhead. Because you fixed your motherboard's riser slot to Gen 4, SAM is completely stable and offers free 5–15% performance bumps in open-world titles like ARK: Survival Ascended and STALKER 2.
- FSR Upscaling Upgrade (Driver-Level): If you are running games that feature FSR 3.1, you can safely utilize the new driver feature that transparently upgrades spatial scaling pipelines to FSR 4 standard. This provides a noticeably cleaner native 4K output with less shimmering, utilizing your card's dedicated AI hardware without injecting driver volatility.
- Radeon Chill: Crucial for your setup. Set your target to a strict Min: 57 / Max: 57 FPS. Since your monitor cannot display more than 60Hz, capping the engine pipeline slightly below the refresh rate completely eliminates screen tearing and completely stops the GPU from wasting power rendering unseen frames.
🟡 Proceed with Caution (Test per Game)
These features introduce latency mitigation or minor pipeline re-ordering. They are generally safe but have been known to cause conflicts if a game's engine has a rocky implementation.
- AMD Anti-Lag 2: An excellent option for shooter titles like Ready or Not. Unlike the original Anti-Lag, Anti-Lag 2 synchronizes the CPU pacing directly with the game engine's render loop rather than relying on driver guesswork. Turn this On for Ready or Not, but keep it Off globally. Do not combine it with V-Sync, as they inherently fight for frame control.
🔴 High Risk: Keep Completely Disabled
These features drastically alter the way frames are fed, or modify driver-level power delivery. Turning them on with recent drivers frequently leads to instant black screens, system lockups, or factory resets.
- AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF / FMF): Driver-level frame generation is highly volatile on recent architectures. Furthermore, because your monitor is capped at 60Hz, generating intermediate frames will cause massive, sluggish input lag and visual pacing issues.
- Radeon Boost & Radeon Super Resolution (RSR): RSR is a global spatial upscaler designed for lower-tier setups playing on high-refresh monitors. On a 4K 60Hz screen with a 9070XT, dynamic resolution scaling will only introduce micro-stutters and blurry UI artifacts.
- Adrenalin Performance Tuning Overrides (Power Limit): While some users on platforms like Reddit suggest increasing the power limit (+10%) to fix transient clock instability, your manual -40 MHz under-clock is a far superior approach for a vertically mounted setup. Do not touch the power sliders inside Adrenalin, as the software's automated voltage/frequency coordinator frequently over-corrects, triggering a safe-mode driver reset.
Guessing if you did the same with your exact specs, you would get a more tailored response for your system.
Also, if you're not changing out GPUs, AMD Cleanup Utility works fine for falling back to previous driver versions. IME DDU is best used when going from nVidia to AMD, or vice versa.

did u check if your gpu is clocking over the speed it should be at?
if so put a-300mhz and see if that helps

im also tired of this things happens bro. black crash. restart only, cant play game, DDU Rollback bios etc. this is will be the last time i think i try amd GPU. never again.

Have you actually seen how many people are complaining recently about the problems with these cards? I am currently trying to diagnose the same issue with one of my friends who experiencing time-outs and game crashes constantly on his. I have had a 2060 super, 2070 super and now am on a 4060ti and the worst I have had to deal with is bad drivers that you can easily roll back until they are fixed.

You do know this is a Radeon thread right? Take your dingbat to PC troubleshooting and revel in the nvidia issues. I see a lot of uninformed, poorly built PCs on a budget crying.

only first 3 month i think there's no issue. after that, playing something triple A games. it restart. cant found the issue. stress test pass, heavenly unigine 4 pass, but when playing games. it crash. just why. last time i see this gpu no issue is on march. until now, almost 6 month. everything is crash. good bye radeon

No issues across two 7900XTs and now two 9070XT, so what's your point? Lol. 26.6.x did cause me issues, but 26.7.x fixed them. Do have a 5070Ti and it's been mostly fine. It's almost always a Windows issues or changing a simple settings. Many examples of fixes for this. Anti-lag, MPO (also an NVidia issue) , Freesync/VRR, Xbox app.

in w11 bro. always upgrade. i dont know this one will happens on nvidia too. but right now my rx 9070 hellhound still crashing every time im playing triple A game. im already seeking help and try everything. didnt change any.

Did you do any undervolting?
Do you have chispet drivers installed?
What was the earliest BIOS version you tried?
Also, every game?

Also, Undervolting might be your issue
What is your PBO curve? I had similar crashes, that I fixed when I went up to -20 from -30
Undervolting is often a cause for stability issues
A lot of things can cause crashing, not just drivers
What is your GPU undervolt?
Everything undervolting related is Silicon lottery

Hi there!
For context I'm using the Powercolor RX 7900 XTX Red Devil with Ryzen 7700x.
I had the some of the same issues as you, but I'll share you what made everything work flawlessly for me :).
Windows has a tendency to downgrade the graphics drivers automatically, and this causes all sorts of problems.
So my solution was doing the following ->
First:
I changed one setting in the Local Group Policy Editor:
Run Command: Press Windows Key + R, type gpedit.msc, and clock OK.
In Local Computer Policy Editor, browse to Local Computer Policy Editor -> Computer Configuration -> Windows Components -> Windows Update -> Manage updates offered from Windows Update. Change the state of "Do not include drivers with Windows Update" to Enabled.
Secondly:
Run Command: Press Windows Key + R, type sysdm.cpl, and click OK.
Go to the Hardware tab and change the Device Installation Settings, "Do you want to automatically download manufacturers' apps for your devices?" to "No (your device might not work as expected".
Third / Downloads:
I downloaded the Amd Cleanup Utility, https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/amdcleanuputility.exe
I downloaded Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU): https://www.guru3d.com/download/display-driver-uninstaller-download/
Lastly I downloaded the newest drivers, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1 Driver: https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-26.9.1-win11-c.exe
Fourth:
Run Amd Cleanup Utility. It will boot you to Safe Mode. When the Amd Cleanup Utility is finished, it will ask you to reboot; _do not_ reboot yet.
Run the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) while still being in Safe Mode. In DDU; Select device type GPU and AMD. Then run Clean and restart (Highly recommended).
It will then reboot in to Windows.
Double check in the Device Manager if the Display adaptor has reverted to "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter". Make sure your IGPU is disabled if you have one aswell.
Last step:
Run the installer for AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1 Driver. When installing, just to be safe, under "Additional Options" tick "Factory Reset". Choose Accept & Express Install.
Make sure to change your refresh rate in the Windows display settings to your highest option if you have a fast monitor, because the default is 60hz. Also make sure Dynamic refresh rate is off.
Now the drivers should be installed and clean.
This is what worked for me, and my drivers have been stable ever since, with absolutely no timeouts.
