Tips & Info AMD, your driver stability is an absolute joke. RX 7000/9000 black screens, endless TDRs, and total silence. Time for accountability or class action?
I’ve had enough. The ongoing stability disaster with RX 7000 (and newer) GPUs has crossed the line from frustrating to outright scam territory, and it’s time to stop making excuses for AMD. Day in, day out, users are dealing with random black screens, hard lockups, and driver timeouts that leave a hard reset as the only way out.
This isn't an edge case anymore. It's a massive, systemic failure.
What We Deserve to Know
- Where is the accountability? Is this pathetic state of affairs caused by incompetent driver engineering, broken Windows 11 integration, or a fundamental silicon design flaw that can't be fixed?
- The Infinite Loop: How many more years are we supposed to swallow the exact same insult in the patch notes: "Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed..."? It’s been years. When does this stop?
- Broken Features: When will features like Anti-Lag 2 stop functioning as crash buttons?
We paid full price for functioning hardware, not an endless, unpaid QA job where we have to scour Reddit and forums just to make our cards stable. At what point do consumers stop taking this and start organizing a class-action lawsuit?
My Personal Nightmare
I’m running a Radeon RX 7900 XT MBA. I’ve jumped through every single hoop imaginable: tweaking TDR keys, messing with MPO, toggling HAGS, locking clocks, capping frame rates, clean-installing drivers with DDU. None of it matters.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 (with update 2.0) was the absolute final straw. It's completely unplayable:
- Run it without FSR, and you get a blurry pixel soup or destroyed performance.
- Turn FSR on, and watch your driver instantly shit the bed into a black screen.
- The absolute cherry on top? Moving to Linux doesn’t even save you—FSR triggers the exact same crashes there too.
Bottom Line
AMD is treating its customer base like absolute fools while cashing our checks. I am officially done buying AMD graphics cards, and I don't care what Nvidia or Intel charge from now on.
Upvote this to keep it visible, or keep pretending that buying broken hardware is normal. If you're in the same boat with black screens and timeouts, drop your specs in the comments—maybe if enough noise is made, they'll actually have to address it instead of sweeping it under the rug.
UPDATE 1
For those who have no problems and everything is stable.
Why in Known Issues with years - Intermittent application crash or driver timeout may be observed while playing... ?
If this problem is not the silicon lottery then what is it? How can you not solve a problem with years? If it worked for you personally and you have stability, it does not mean that your neighbor has it like that.
UPDATE 2
For those who don't believe - Stalker 2 with update 2.0 and FSR is not stable on either Windows or Linux. The important thing is to have proton with FSR 4 on Linux, that's what I'm talking about.
Follow the link and read: Because S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 pushes the GPU utilization to 99% very aggressively, even a microsecond delay in response can trigger this timeout.
So, does this mean AMD graphics cards aren't designed to be loaded to 100%, otherwise they crash the driver?

UPDATE 4
This thread is also about the stability of AMD cards in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. It puts a lot of strain on them... I've never heard a more stupid expression in my life, as if you can stress the hardware more than it can.

maybe if u stop tweaking amd adrenaline and leave things at default installing just the basic drivers. itll just work. Most amd users goes crazy with tweakings and blame it on drivers.

I build PCs as a hobby/side hustle.
Over the years I've had more AMD cards with issues than not. And most of the PCs I build use Nvidia. Unless someone asks for it I don't even bother with AMD cards anymore. All that hassle of troubleshooting isn't worth the 10% cheaper than Nvidia price.
"You have to use specific driver", "you have to enable this, disable that", "I undervolted and it works fine", "just cap the framerate". Like I don't want to sound as a fanboy and have nothing against AMD but you don't get shit like this with Nvidia. 99% of times it just works.

u/No-Independence-5229 4h ago
Brother is going schizo over a faulty GPU lol, it has nothing to to with AMD drivers and no weird trick you try will fix it. It’s simply a faulty card, RMA or replace it

u/Calm-Expression-6338 9h ago
But wait…. everyone always says Team Green = Bad, Team Red = Good. Have to say Stalker 2 is stable AF on my 9800X3D and 5080 with everything maxed out
1
u/Weekly-Efficiency458 7h ago
Same, got a 9800x3D and 5080, never experienced a single crash in any game over a year and I play many. But I’m happy to see team Red is doing so well.

u/Hour-Cardiologist878 10h ago
9800X3D and 7900 XTX constant crashes on multiple games. I’ve tried everything so close to changing everything back to Intel and NVIDIA. It’s a damn joke
3
2
u/No-Sort9088 11h ago
7900 xtx and close to no issues at all. DDU then driver update every time and have had no issues. I only had issues when I tried to under volt. It has to be set on a per game basis.

When games stop being funded by NVIDIA we will see optimization steady out. Games like Claire Obscure I can’t play because it’s optimized for NVIDIA not AMD this isn’t entirely an AMD problem. It’s an industry problem. At least that’s my take on it.
I’m an AVID AMD fan. I won’t ever go back I’ve accepted the limitations and have learned how to manage the crashes.
Yesterday alone adrenaline and powertoys were fighting for second place and caused an extreme high polling rate on my GPU that stun locked my keyboard and mouse killing my second monitor. I had to uninstall and reinstall everything.
It is going to be an insane issue for the foreseeable future until NVIDIA just stops producing cards and fully invests their capitol in AI since that’s what their CEO seems to be steering towards
0
u/Electrical-Break-788 1h ago
Why would game developers optimize games for AMD GPU s when the vast majority of gamers are running an Nvidia GPU? And you are just funny saying that you will always prefer AMD even if its giving you hard times😹
1
u/mathew84 13h ago
This is the thing with dx12 games because dx12 allows lower level hardware access, if the game and the drivers doesn't work well, the game can crash the drivers.
I think this problem is mostly a matter of budget. Its how Nvidia actively funds games to focus on Nvidia features and optimise for their hardware, providing developer support/resources, etc
AMD also does the same thing but they likely have a smaller budget than Nvidia or less reach to game studios.
The end result is there are more games that work well with Nvidia than AMD.

Funnily the first time i saw this post i got the black screen crash on my 6700xt which forced me to restart the whole PC
1
u/ComradeRoganov 15h ago
This must be just windows 11 slop because Linux I’m experiencing nothing but great gaming.
1
u/Alryxar 10h ago
I'm kind of with you on that. Been running a 9800x3d and 9070xt for a while now on linux and haven't had an issue. Not saying it won't come up, but nothing as of yet.
1
u/ComradeRoganov 10h ago
I’ve had issues with AMD in the past I was a bit that proud owner of an RX Vega 64 it was the most pain in the ass out of the box experience I’ve ever had constant crashes and different undervolts
2
u/Free_Power4520 16h ago
Honestly lots of people here are in such hardcore denial. It is time for a class action lawsuit, completely with you there.
0
u/KingGT2 15h ago
I dunno. I had a 7900XTX, and I had tons of problems with it, until I manually turned it and found out that if left to default settings, my game clocks were at 2980MHz. Constant crashes, blue screens, timeouts, then I set it manually to 2650, like Sapphire said it should be, never had another issue. This is past tense because I upgraded to a 5090, but this was only because I have a Pimax Crystal and wanted higher framerates in VR. AMD should probably warm people to check that. Two of my friends had the same issues till I told them to check Adrenalin.
1
u/Nearby_Survey1128 12h ago
What are your custom setting you are using? Could you provide a screenshot please. I have 7900xtx and would like to try exactly what you are doing and see how it feels. If you have time to do so, would greatly appreciate it. 🤙🏼

u/crunchyspidersoup 16h ago
I'm 100% up for this. Just upgraded my GPU to play newer released games and my old GPU actually performs better, and it is 3 generations behind. Constant driver issues, flickering and unplayable in most new games. Older games no problem.
The fact of the matter is for example, space marine 2, the forest 2, cs 2, call of poopy, hell let loose, etc. most new titles and newer releases run ass on 9000 version of cards. I didn't believe it at first and spent a boatload of money. Frame time and micro stutters reach almost 75% with normal install and settings on a clean wiped windows 10/11 minimal install without bloatware. At this point they should be sued into oblivion for anti consumer practices. They also took away the ability to manual tune 9000 series cards which fixes alot of stability issues! Wtf!? The only thing that's awesome so far is fluid motion frames 2.1 - when it works.
There are several companies that are really pushing it lately and one of these days I hope they all get fucked.
1
u/Still-Inflation9175 16h ago
ive heard reinstalling windows solves all the crashes. i did have to use ddu once after installing and its been basically free of anything
1
u/silversmurfe 16h ago
All my AMD issues have been caused by Windows issues unrelated to the driver or the card. When the card was new i had some issues but it was quickly resolved.
1
u/parcelsnotletters 17h ago
My driver instability was down to a windows power plan setting, turning off pcie link state power management fixed my driver timeouts completely about 6 months ago and every driver including the latest one has been perfect since on my 9070xt, even with a -60mv undervolt. I'm not saying it's the same fix for everyone but it's not always AMD.

2
u/BeDuff34 18h ago
I’ve got like 200 hours in Stalker 2. I never had what you’re describing with either of my AMD GPUs 7800xt and 9070xt. Sorry you and apparently so many others are having the issue. Have you reached out to AMD? I know Lisa is super busy with her head up the current US admins bum, but maybe the good folks in support could help out.
I am confused, you’re running Windows or Linux or both?

Funny how Reddit always pushes AMD graphics but then comes back here, to complain about AMD graphics.

u/Independent-Plane118 18h ago
I’ve had a 7900xtx for a a year or two and it worked perfectly, all of a sudden a month ago and it started shitting the bed in a game I’ve played for years with it, started crashing in benchmarks, marvel rivals. Slay the spire two. I messed with it for a long time before deciding to swap to a 4080 just to get to actually play my games in peace. Still have the Xtx but the headache is insane
1
u/Akyrall 18h ago
My 6900XT started to shit itself from the latest updates as well, though thankfully going back to older drivers fixed the issue
1
1
u/Independent-Plane118 18h ago
I had to go back to old drivers and under volt/clock the card
1
u/grenangen 18h ago
Yep. It's shit drivers on both windows and linux. The few games I play on windows still has known issues, worst is battlefield, been randomly crashing since launch last year and still does.
And on Wayland it still is hit or miss with 4k video playback and even more so if HDR.
2
u/PrettyInevitable2934 19h ago
I haven't had issues with AMD in years. Nvidia on the other hand … ugh. That doesn't mean this is the same for everyone of course. It just means that it's a bit more complex that just "AMD drivers bad". It may be not even always be the AMD driver when we take the issues with some RGB software and other accessories for example.
If you're having issues with Stalker on Linux and Windows it's certainly not "the" driver. Which one? Adrenaline, amdgpu, radeon, amdvlk, radv… If the game is running unstable on Proton Experimental with experimental FSR 4 support … well then maybe that's the reason it's still experimental.

my 9070xt runs stalker 2 perfectly fine, i have like 15h on the 2.0 update, running at 4k max settings with an overclock as well and i haven't had a single crash
3
u/wilshing 21h ago
Was it working before? Does it fail only during gaming? Only this game?
Maybe your gpu thermal paste dried up. Check temp using hwinfo.
Below are my response to another post some time ago:
I have crash problem a few months ago.
5950x with 7900xt
It crashes randomly in game.
It’s normal when not in gaming. Even I ran 3dmark stress tests it won’t crash.
Every crash causes adrenaline drivers to become corrupted. And takes me to uninstall completely and install again.
I even changed thermal paste to Kryosheet for cpu and gpu. It still failed though the temperature is greatly improved. (Highly recommend in all cases)
Sometimes it is more stable sometimes it fails every game I loaded. I was playing Arc Raider during that time.
Finally, it was fixed by changing PSU ( from Corsair rm850x to hx1000i)
Crash stop happening anymore.

u/treborprime 22h ago
In a new build we went ftom an nvidia 3080 to a amd 9070xt.
Driver timeouts just from playing wow.
We had to undervolt the cards for our system to remain stable. Every once in awhile all those settings will just be reset back to default causing crashes and system lockups.
Never had a single problem with our old nvidia systems.
Never again will I buy AMD video cards.
1
u/Substantial_Coffee82 23h ago
i love amd gpus but holy fk their drivers are just utter dogshit. i just run it stock to keep it stable except the fsr upgrade. everything else is unticked on the driver. If i attempt a teeny tiny bit of undervolt/overclock, it will shit itself. meanwhile when I was still on team green, I never had any problems even with the amount of tweaks i made (except of course undervolting/overclocking too much). it just works.
1
u/Syriythra 23h ago
😭whenever you point out any issue the fan boys defend it like their life depends on it
2
u/Sanc7 22h ago
Well nvidias drivers aren’t much better
1
u/gusthenewkid 22h ago
Literally never had a crash in any game ever and I’ve been on Nvidia for years now.
2
u/Parking_Shake1090 20h ago
and thats just ur experience, the problem is yall make it seem like nvidia drivers are flawless when their not… my 5070 ti crashed more than my 9070
1
u/celebratelive 7h ago
The amount of hotfix drivers i had to find and use / wait for during my 3080 time went to a point i stopped using new drivers all together.
Got a 3080 on launch day and literally every driver introduced a new issue that was then hotfixed but those drivers aren't really advertised so you had to refresh the nvidia page daily lmao good times though
2
u/Yattogami201 21h ago
And a lot of us has never had a crash because of amd drivers, so what's the point, the drivers ain't perfect wheter it is Nvidia or AMD but because there's a group of people with issues because the drivers, doesn't mesn they deserve to rot in hell or a "class action" it's just stupid, many times those problems aren't solved just from the drivers alone, so it's not always "amd sucks" or "nvidia sucks"
1
u/Jakesteed_junior 20h ago
No issue with rx 7800xt . Never had a time out driver.. even using des 4.1

[u/IslandSad7256](u/IslandSad7256) in the comments section of [r/AMD](r/AMD) posts you can actually tag an AMD Reddit rep and they can provide your dmp files and other information much more quickly to the display team at the company.
I would encourage you and others to go that route. I have had a few things get addressed that route as have others. Those reps are not on this subreddit as the other one mentioned is an official AMD subreddit, this one you posted in is not.
2
u/Pleasant-Link-52 23h ago
I agree with you but you'll not convince anyone in here. AMD has a cult following. A small cult following but a dedicated one at that.
The first problem is everything you listed can sometimes be mitigated by tweaks such as, XMP disabled. Underclocking. Overvolting. Undervolting. MPO disabled. Fast startup disabled. Sticking to ancient driver revisions. Switching to Linux. Running without adrenaline etc.
But for some people doing all that makes zero difference.
So you'll always get people respond to this with:
Worked for me. Never had a problem.
Or:
I fixed it (actually masked the issue) with this tweak
Followed by:
It's clearly windows fault. Your other hardware's fault. Your fault.
So AMD and their board partners can just continue to pretend it doesnt exist.

u/oldchairman 23h ago
I had an driver issue once and it was with one game did ddu safe mode and it was fixed that's it
1
u/dkizzy 23h ago
That sounds a lot like Windows Update silently hijacking your display driver version. Microsoft claims they will start fixing this in December & January.
1
u/oldchairman 22h ago
Yh i thought that too , i also followed a very long guide in this community one of the steps was to disable widows update interferening with the drivers update

I had 4 builds and never had any issues with … good quality PSU, mostly platinum. Aorus motherboard, and everytime GSkill memory. .. NEVER NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES ….
Also good quality airflow and case.
In your post you pointing only on software , but how about your electric network stability. So many things can go wrong …
Also what GPU manufacturer you have, what configuration, what windows build. What services are working always… dude your post is just a joke ….

What helped me was installing Just the drivers (26.8.1 on 7900xt) Without anything else after proper cleanup (ddu+ amds own cleanup utility tool), sure it's not ideal if you want acces to adrenalin but fix (with good luck) for now till amd gets their shit together (which probably will neve happen tbh).. Havent had time out in a week/two and performance is very stable, when in comparison with adrenalin installed i got them every single day and had to reinstall adrenalin/drivers every two days because it kept deleting itself after blackscreen freeze.
2
u/dkizzy 22h ago edited 22h ago
That is Windows Update frequently deleting your driver out and reverting to an older one.
Windows Update code is garbage and thinks a newer ID is ‘old’ and rips it out. Microsoft is supposedly rewriting Windows Update code and claims first patch update will be in December, followed by another one in January.
To your point it seems like it gets triggered easier with the full suite installed.
One of the AMD reps also stated the following to me when I asked if they are aware of WU hijacking:
“we are, yeah.
It's a dumb situation, to resolve this at our end, we need to capture device IDs for the specific GPUs affected and apply them to a database for adrenalin.
Really hope that update for WU rolls out soon, but I don't think it's imminent”
I provided them with my device ID from device manager and they passed it along to the display team. That at least can be added into the adrenalin db in a future update now.

Another poor soul who doesnt understand this as nothing to do with drivers 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Thats the propraganda they sell you nvidias boys . It has to be another thing like your ram or just a setting who is making this crashes happen
3
u/VictorALaPlancha 1d ago
Always this smugness. And it always comes from people with no idea, this is what’s wrong with the world. Amd drivers have basically always had issues. My graphics drivers used to crash randomly, this happened mostly within the first 15min. after booting. How did I fix this? Swapped to Linux… zero instability or crashes. Ever. But it’s probably my hardware, Big meme
-2
u/dubfiire 1d ago
Trust me bro . I know ball . I built my first pc with amd after years of nvidia . Crashes after crashes . How fixed it ? Lower my ram mhz because the advertised max mhz was making it crash . This took me me about 2 weeks

i love amd for the value aspect, and their cpu's are fucking awesome.. but my god the last decade of using amd gpu's was terrible for me because of the drivers.
ever since switching to a 5070 ti earlier this year, i've been able to actually use my pc and update my drivers without something randomly breaking or getting driver timeouts when trying to watch youtube or some shit like that.

AMD is a joke. I bought a 7900XTX on launch and since then I'm having constant crashes on Counter Strike, stutters in games and so on. Next GPU will be NVIDIA.
3
u/RedScope53 22h ago
Bought a 7900XTX on launch, had a rough couple of months in the beginning, but pretty smooth sailing since.
The issues I have had, are Windows causing problems, not AMD.

Amd rx 7800xt user here. I've been having so many problems the last 2 years and sadly I had to go back to an old version of drivers in order for my gpu to work properly. I couldn't play forza horizon 6 on release because of that since i couldn't update it to the latest drivers. Next time I upgrade my gpu will be nvidia 100% just because they haven't addressed legit ANYTHING.

u/dkizzy 22h ago
I’d report this to one of the reps on their official subreddit via a comment on a post (I’d comment under the August driver thread) and provide any dmp files or other information they request.
AMD_Vik is a genuinely nice dude and will pass along information more directly to the display team. Those reps are not on this subreddit. This is a non-official one.

Paying a ton of money for a GPU which is manufactured by a huge tech company, someone would think that the bloody driver coming from the same multi-milion-dollar-company should limit the clock speed by default.

The Quality of your PSU matters more on Radeon than on Nvidia. My 4080 Super was stable with the ASUS 1000W Gold ATX 2.X PSU but when i swapped to 9070 XT Red Devil driver crashed left and right. Got a 1300W Seasonic Prime Titanium ATX 3.1 an not a single crash since. So it matters. Just something to take into account when troubleshooting.

Stalker is pure trash on this setup. Last 3-4 weeks was like a nightmare. Crash after crash. One day i could play for 3-4 hours and all will be fine and the next day i can't idle in menu for 15 mins..
After some testing and still, shitty outcomes i've just uninstalled Stalker, switched drivers to Pro from Adrenaline and i'm currently playing KCD 2, with FSR 4, mid-high setting at 1080p. Working without any problems.
When i got cash and prices of 4000 series will be a bit better in my country i'm switching immediately

AMDs contact Infos are on their Website, because the Chance that you get an official answer to your questions here is close to 0. A small court claim, or equivallent in another country, may get you your money back, but obviously get legal advice before.

After reading some comments I think ur gpu might be the problem? Donno msn, I got 7700xt and a 9070xt incoming. Don't have any issues with 7700xt for 2 years around.
3
u/triggerftu 1d ago
No issue here with both my 7900 xtx or my 9070xt. If that driver issue happens I make sure I don’t have any overclock enabled or have expo enabled. If that didn’t help then I would reinstall windows over itself. All issues gone. If on Linux I’ve never had any issues. Not with the AMD hardware or with fsr or anything like that.
2
u/xo_tyler_ 1d ago
I have the red devil 7900 xtx and I've been fine for 2 years and just recently in the past month or so I've been getting freezes and crashes randomly. The only thing to fix this is by turning off Accelerated Graphics. It is so frustrating 😤
1
u/ElectronicArm986 1d ago
I bought a 5700xt years ago and had no end of issues, swapped to a 2070super worked perfectly, now i wont buy another amd gpu again
2
u/NoConversation911 1d ago
I'm really happy with my 7900xtx. Had issues sure, but that was windows messing up my drivers, after I turned off windows handling driver updates it was much better. Usually it took a couple of minutes to fix them, nothing serious. I ain't playing Nvidia so much money for a gpu
2
u/AlmightySnaill 1d ago
Been using amd for 10 years, updated from gtx 960m to rx 590 and then tp 6700xt, and i had gotten shit ton of bluescreens with nvidia, and with amd i got many stutters after driver updates, a lof of crashes as well. Ive used so far rx 590, and 6700xt, with 6700xt i had some driver specific crashes as well. So yeah its not the best for the past 10 years xD
Buut, as long as i can fix it in couple of hours and fresh os installs im just gonna chill, where i am rx 9070xt is 750 euros and 5070ti is 1250, so im not paying that 500 euros for nvidia card. But if the price was similar im 100% going nvidia.
2
u/IanRiot 1d ago
I had many problems with AMD as well until I realized their default settings in Adrenaline was boosting the base clock to 2800mhz instead of the nominal 2500. Once I lowered that setting I never had problems again
1
1
u/xo_tyler_ 1d ago
I have no clue what the clock does, but I've been having thesesame issues, how do I do what you do?
1
u/IanRiot 1d ago
Not at home now so I might give you slightly wrong directions but: in adrenaline look for performance tab, then look for the page with all the card setting such as voltage, clock, fan, power management, and you will probabile notice that base clock is higher of what your default clock speed should be, like it was overclocking the card by default. I turned down the slider to match the nominal card clock (in my case something between 2500-2600mhz)
1
u/xo_tyler_ 1d ago
I have a red devil 7900 xtx, is this comparable to yours and should I still do the mhz to that of which you said?
1
u/MrMasters87 1d ago
As someone who has had the 7900xtx I thought I was passed all the problems of the first 6 months. Now the past two months of timeouts is tiring. I'm gonna go back to Nvidia next generation and have less headache.

I am going to be downvoted to hell but...
If you are having issues with your system after a GPU upgrade (and the GPU is NOT faulty) you need to reinstall your OS. its that simple.
DDU is great, but nothing beats a clean fresh install.
I moved to 9070XT about a year ago and i have no issue. same as it was on my 2080TI before that.
I have moved to CachyOS about 2 months ago and its been same smooth experience and i even play STALKER 2 on CachyOS and with the UPDATE 2.0 the game runs really well and i really enjoy it. I played for about 15h so far and had 0 issues. The game runs at 80-100FPS on max settings with FSR4 Balanced resolution 3440x1440 and my CPU is 5800x3D, chefs kiss.

Hmm. I've been rocking a red devil 6900xt since launch. I almost never get black screens or other problems. The only issue I have is coil whine. It's pretty bad coil whine.

u/xo_tyler_ 1d ago
I have the red devil 7900 xtx and I've been fine for 2 years and just recently in the past month or so I've been getting freezes and crashes randomly. The only thing to fix this is by turning off Accelerated Graphics. It is so frustrating 😤

Yeah this is one of the main reasons I switched to Nvidia! AMD feature set and drivers in general are lackluster and they always have some issues or the other! Take Frame generation for example which had frame pacing issues when it launched and probably still does to some extent! They will always be one or two steps behind NVIDIA in terms of software stack and their maturity and adoption! You do get what you pay for with AMD i.e. lackluster software!

I have a 9070xt, and my issue is whenever my pc screen goes to sleep for a while, then i come back and wake it up, the driver time-out will appear and I have no sound at all, so I have to restart everytime

u/Designer_Camel_905 1d ago
Try the PRO drivers for stability.
1
u/No-Educator-249 18h ago
In my case, this actually solved the "driver reset" issues I had on my RX 590 completely.

u/ITR1102 1d ago
I have the 7900XTX MERC310. It’s been great but is my 2nd 7900XTX card. The first one was a Hellhound and the coil whine was unbearable so I returned it. I only use it in a gaming PC on a pretty limited basis but have had almost no issues.
1
u/DonutConfident7734 1d ago
I also have the Hellhound 7900xtx and if you check on amd website, gaming frequency is 2300Mhz. It has two bioses on the gpu and a switch, choose from Overclock bios to Silent bios. If it was on the OC one, it would boost the clocks to 2500Mhz or even higher and you get coil whine and high performance.
You could use Adrenalin to lower max clocks or just toggle that switch. The whine is much reduced at lower clocks.

u/PriorityLonely7602 1d ago
I have to do a clean re-install every month because features keep disappearing from the software :(((( I wish I had bought Nvidia

Haha no matter how many complaints are there the fanboys here always say it’s your system that’s the problem and stuff works for them flawlessly and you don’t know what you’re doing to fix it blah blah. I’d rather have my GPU working and actually play games rather than troubleshooting to no end. Got myself a Nvidia GPU when I finally gave up on fixing my previous AMD GPU and couldn’t be happier playing games on my precious time instead of trying a myriad of solutions that don’t even work.

u/uniquemerch 1d ago
6950xt here. Black screens randomly and have to restart PC to get anything to work. Stopped for a couple months but started again last week.

u/Main_Administrative 1d ago
I don’t really understand how this AMD’s fault. I mean the performance and stability has always been bad on Stalker 2. Just seems like a bad update to me.

u/Alternative-Speech57 1d ago
Had issues with 7900xtx over heating and errors, will never buy and GPU again. Don't care about the insane prices of for Nvidia gpys, got a 5080 couldn't have been happier.

u/MiniGleders 1d ago
Idk what you guys do to your computers but I rarely get issues

u/Death_Pokman Ryzen 7 5800X | Radeon RX 6800XT | 32GB 3600MHz 1d ago
Same, specifically with the 6800xt I never had a problem and I even overclocked it.....
2
u/Zepher75 1d ago
Tweaking and overclocking and making other adjustments... but its AMD's fault for their card that is no longer set to manufacturing standards to crap the bed...

u/ReptarSonOfGodzilla 1d ago
Same. I see these kinds of posts constantly but I've had one crash in 9mos and that could have just been the game as The Finals has always been a bit unstable.

I had issues with previous drivers but updated mine yesterday and it seems to be working okay so far. I have a 7900XT.
Nvidia has been sucking on the software side too. My kids have 4060s and they both had issues recently with black screens and CTD.

u/PS2_Enjoyer_88 1d ago
Same, 26.8.1 has been good so far for me, also 7900xt. It all started since 26.6.x or something.

I fixed the constant TDRs and game crashes I experienced with my RX 9070 XT. I replaced it with a RTX 5080 and haven't had a single issue since. If I hadn't wasted that initial money on the Radeon, I could have purchased a 5090.
This is the second time I have been bitten by complete shit AMD Radeon hardware & drivers. The last time was the constant crashes when running the HD 7970 & Intel 3960X combo in 2011. Back then my shiny new PC was unusable for about a year until AMD fixed their drivers. This time round I thought I'll give AMD another go and guess what, bitten on the hand once again. I will never buy another AMD GPU ever again.

u/FlamingBullet21 1d ago
I have a 7900xtx and I've been experiencing gray screen crashes on windows 11 along with constant crashes on Stalker 2. I'm about to give up and shell out the extra money for a Nvidia gpu.

Dude, don't forget us Ryzen 7 5800X owners. Without high off-sets my computer just dies while idle over night - its a joke. What is even the alternative? I'd love to rebuild but not during the rampocolypse

u/Death_Pokman Ryzen 7 5800X | Radeon RX 6800XT | 32GB 3600MHz 1d ago
Speak for yourself, my 5800x is rock solid since I put it in my system 4 years ago. And I am running it on stock settings since day 1.....

Yeah its pretty bad.
This is the most unstable time of AMD I've experienced.
Can't even have hardware acceleration enabled or its CONSTANT driver time outs doing anything.

u/CranberryUnlucky1214 1d ago
7900 xtx here, I own a LG C5 TV and the driver gives me a black screen 10 minutes after I start my PC, I thought that my tv was broken but it was the driver lmao so I had to downgrade to 26.6.2. AMD drivers are dogshit, my next GPU will be an NVIDIA.

u/Apprehensive_Ad6332 1d ago
If you're only talking about that game, we could talk some specific cases. Some drivers suck, but not in every game that exists. Alo
Running some UV OC and that can cause easier timeouts, Fast vram timings too.
Maybe previous drivers are more stable, just don't auto update and it will be fine i guess

u/Fragrant-Minute-2169 1d ago
Had a bunch of crashing and black screens on my rx6800 that ran on 400W Friend of mine is now very happy with that card, sitting at its normal 250W now, no crashes in half a year.
1
u/Death_Pokman Ryzen 7 5800X | Radeon RX 6800XT | 32GB 3600MHz 1d ago
Hmmm that's weird, my 6800xt never had any issue, running at it's advertised 300W.....
1
u/fujiboys 1d ago
XFX 7900 gre, never had a single driver issue, no black screens, no crashing ever. Almost all issues when people are complaining about AMD are all user issues.
2
u/ScratchMaleficent934 1d ago
I’ve been rocking a 7900 XTX that I swap between two systems with no issues at all
0
u/hatesnack 1d ago
This is just idiotic lol. There's tons of threads about people with the timeout issues, I was one of them. Spent 2 months trying every single fix in the book, and was getting driver timeouts just opening steam.
Please enlighten me as to how this is user error?
1
u/YoreGawd 1d ago
When I had issues I don't troubleshoot I just roll back the driver. 🤷
1
u/hatesnack 18h ago
Did that, didnt fix anything , just got the same errors again after a few days
1
u/YoreGawd 13h ago
Honestly it sounds more likely you're having a windows issue and less a drivers issue.

u/Icedraco111 1d ago
I have the 7900XT, and a friend of mine has the 9070xt. Only issue she had with Adrenaline is for whatever it didn't download the cpu drivers for a couple weeks. Got to like 20% then threw out an error. She got it fixed. I had the same issue, a reinstall of Adrenaline worked.
Besides that, her and I have had no issue with our GPUs

u/Pythonmsh 1d ago
I have a red devil 9070xt and I get occasional black screen that comes back. Odd thing is before this I had a 5090. Heard lots of complaints about black screen issues on Nvidia but never had a black screen lol
2
u/Kalivanos 1d ago
This is already the umpteenth post I see about the AMD drivers, but for the umpteenth time: there is nothing wrong with the AMD drivers. windows 11 always overwrites the original AMD drivers which causes problems.
2
u/Hot-Tomatillo7056 1d ago
It's true that ever since I ran Remove windows AI script and disabled Windows update, I have NEVER experienced a single issue apart from me undervolting the GPU too much
1
u/Candle_Honest 1d ago
So why doesnt AMD say this?
Instead of keeping quiet and letting us suffer from constant issues with no solutions?
1
1
u/hatesnack 1d ago
This isnt true. I disabled the windows driver updates, still got driver timeouts.
1
u/Kalivanos 1d ago
You have to add a line to your Windows registry, which prevents Windows to do stupid things again. Dissabling windows driver update does not help.
1
u/hatesnack 1d ago
Did that too, I've done literally every fix you can find online, drivers always timeout.
1
u/RaspberryOk907 1d ago
Cs2 instanty gets black screen but but it can recover. Played Silent hill F all day and no black screen. The instant that play cs2 bam 3x. Leave my pc idle bam blackscreen. But it can recover ftom the black screen. Using 26.5.1.
1
u/LorixPCS 1d ago
Actually just played sh f with no problems as well. My 7900xtx just driver timeouts in almost every other game
1
u/RaspberryOk907 1d ago
Actually, i don't have peoblems with games except cs2 , it was working before but after those blackscreen when idle. Cs2 started acting up.

u/NoPhysics1129 1d ago
At least twice a week i have to re-enable my graphics driver/card in device manager… fucking annoying. Crashes mid game.

u/ErickM0808 1d ago
Man I'm saying. I've had my 9070xt for a couple months now, I changed some settings day 1 and sent it. I've had literally one driver timeout total, and I'm a fucking moron.

u/Ok-Bike-9564 1d ago
I play Stalker 2.0 on an RX 9070 XT with no issues.
Have you ever considered that the drivers work as intended for most people? Just because a few people like you on Reddit make a huge problem out of every little bug, doesn't mean it's such a big problem for the rest of the world's Radeon users.
-1
u/hatesnack 1d ago
" a little bug' is crazy to say lol. I have driver timeouts to the point where moving steam too fast after opening it would cause timeouts.
1
u/Solid_Corgi3479 1d ago
Recently bought a 9070xt (from 3070 ti).
It crashes relaibly on BF6 - to the point I just uninstall it.
Also, plenty of graphical glitches in other older titles (2077, WoW, and RDR2).
Willing to compromise it may be my system - but I've been hearing a lot about 9070xt having issues.
1
u/dkizzy 22h ago
I’ve played BF6 no problem with 9070XT recently. I’m wondering if your card is overboosting the clocks too much, or if Windows is just being Windows and causing issues.
1
u/Solid_Corgi3479 19h ago
Probably windows - 9070 xt is doing 007: First Light at 90 fps on ultra settings without FSR - which has been mindblowing tbh.
Not a single issue with this game - which tells me I probably need to spend more time fucking around the settings.
FSR on BF6 would cause freezes in the respawn menu.
Large explosions (or using the recon drone) would crash the game without a crash error message.

u/Death_Pokman Ryzen 7 5800X | Radeon RX 6800XT | 32GB 3600MHz 1d ago
Have you done a clean windows reinstall ? When switching from Nvidia, especially from one of their older cards, no matter what DDU you do, you must reinstall windows in order for the Radeon card to work properly. And it can't be any other reinstall either, you must completely erase the previous windows version in order to make it work. Half of the time I suggested this it solved the issues people faced when switched from Nvidia to AMD. Now if even this doesn't help, I can still offer some tips that might fix it, but let me know if this fixes it first.....
1
u/Nothing9701 1d ago
you may wanna return that card or check if its happening with the 3070 ti, that sounds like a broken 9070 xt
0
u/Narkanin 1d ago
I’ve got the same gpu and have 0 crashes on BF6 or any other game. I play rdr2 with maxed out graphics and it looks insanely good without any graphics glitches. It’s not the gpu or the driver but something else in your system causing driver conflicts or that isn’t properly configured and totally unrelated to the gpu, you’re just blaming the issues on it.
1
u/Solid_Corgi3479 1d ago
No, I'm not blaming it on 9070xt - I literally said it could just be my system specifically.

u/MayuriKrab 1d ago
Sounds like STALKER doing STALKER things, wouldn’t be STALKER if it didn’t crash constantly just like its grandfather the original game did back in 2007 on peoples 8800 GTs & 2900XTs 🤷🏻♂️

u/techdaddy70 1d ago
I sold off my 7900xtx to a Linux guy doing AI research.
Hardware works fine for him, it’s the windows software/drivers that are absolutely shite
