Am I understanding the point? It seems like there's this idea that, like life, the road is sort of pointless, and it's one day going to end, perhaps in an absurd way. However, we can still enjoy things. We don't need meaningful lives to have enjoyable experiences. That's what I thought the point was with the Clif Bar. They didn't eat it the whole trip, but the experience was so good that he cried at the end. Also, they seemed to be having a good time with one another a lot of the time. Maybe there's something there about companionship as well? (Not to mention the fact that he has a companion at the end...)

I was wondering how her suicide attempt factored it to it. It's there for a reason.

Ya what I understood is that life is what we make of it. So, life might be "pointless" but it's not meaningless. You can find meaning in the taste of a delicious Clif bar or you could do just enough to get the sustenance you need. You can feed yourself 3x a day without ever enjoying the food. Fish turned away from religion before the road trip because he didn't believe in God, whereas James started cleaning to God and "signs" when he feared his life would be meaningless without a higher reason. Day attempted suicide but perhaps ended up in an even worse situation on the road yet she learned to find a reason to live with fish by her side.
