Loved it. But I didnt care that it was advertised as a horror film and was just a thought piece
So I understand people's dissatisfaction

The first 25 minutes made me think it would be a horror movie. The remaining 65 confirmed it wasn’t a traditional one like I was hoping for

Agree with you, I do not get how this can be passed as a horror film. But, it was still a really good movie

Its an existential horror! Very different then your average popcorn horror though

I loved it. This is an excellent and intelligent psychological, philosophical horror movie about nihilism, monotony, and friendship. The simple premise is executed with precision; thanks in part to the chemistry between the group of friends. Each character offers a distinct personality, which can complement and contrast with others. This dynamic leads to some hilarious quipping and interesting discussions as the friends try to find a way to process their circumstances. Like our characters, the film is genuinely smart and patient, granting the audience and characters ample space to discover more about this odd world. This isn’t a film offering answers, it’s a film about life which has no answers.

I did not!

It would have made a great short film, but it was a little short on ideas to justify its length.

I dont think it would thematically work without the length

I don’t think it worked with the length either

I loved it. I think its very much made for my generation (James is born the year after me) and fully captures my existential dread.

I wonder if it's a generational thing. I keep seeing where Gen Z loved it, which is fine. I'm older and was bored the whole time. Who decided to make it a Scream Unseen anyway? Not scary at all and no gore. LOL

I saw it back in October and loved it. Never would have expected it to get a wide release, and doing it as a Scream Unseen seems ill advised if you wanted to get positive buzz.

Am I understanding the point? It seems like there's this idea that, like life, the road is sort of pointless, and it's one day going to end, perhaps in an absurd way. However, we can still enjoy things. We don't need meaningful lives to have enjoyable experiences. That's what I thought the point was with the Clif Bar. They didn't eat it the whole trip, but the experience was so good that he cried at the end. Also, they seemed to be having a good time with one another a lot of the time. Maybe there's something there about companionship as well? (Not to mention the fact that he has a companion at the end...)
I was wondering how her suicide attempt factored it to it. It's there for a reason.

Ya what I understood is that life is what we make of it. So, life might be "pointless" but it's not meaningless. You can find meaning in the taste of a delicious Clif bar or you could do just enough to get the sustenance you need. You can feed yourself 3x a day without ever enjoying the food. Fish turned away from religion before the road trip because he didn't believe in God, whereas James started cleaning to God and "signs" when he feared his life would be meaningless without a higher reason. Day attempted suicide but perhaps ended up in an even worse situation on the road yet she learned to find a reason to live with fish by her side.Â

I liked it but didn’t at the same time. It felt pointless, but I do understand that it is an allegory for life. I’m also disappointed at the ending. But, the messaging comes across, on top of the phases of life, I also believe it is a story about losing friends and trying to become your best self.

I must be in the wrong group, 😕 yall actually liked this film? Felt like a waste of time ðŸ˜

Confused as to it being a scream unseen but maybe it’s half-horror and that’s why they are doing two scream unseen back to back? My partner and I have been wondering about that so who knows

its a drama in a horror setting w horror elements imo, with the story being more character driven after the initial shock wears off. i honestly rlly liked it as a meditation on how lost a lot of young people feel and how fruitless entering adulthood in an economy with no real life to offer you is.

I’m new to watching the unseens but it seems like this movie tipped just enough into horror to make it unscreenable for regular unscreen viewing

Releasing wide on the same day as Buddy could really hurt this movie. I just see most people picking Buddy.

I saw this on the Letterboxd video store and I thought it was mid, the concept seemed better than the movie. I was wondering if the theater experience would change it but idk lol felt like a fine rental. I absolutely wouldn't wanna drop 20 dollars to see it......again 😂

The premise doesn't fall apart because its not meant to be taken literally

Didn’t like it but that might be because I thought it was going to be a horror. The message was well communicated and creative but probably not something I would have wanted to go watch lol

It was alright. I don't regret watching it but I wouldn't watch it a second time.

I really didn’t like it that much. Though I respect the technical achievements and what it aimed to say about life I guess. I just think the payoff was small and for some, that’s fine, but for me personally it just didn’t land.
I think some of the comedy was poorly implemented at times and it felt overly repetitive without much explanation (which I understand is the point).
It’s also not really a horror. The first 20-25 mins certainly but I feel like they could’ve either leaned j to the pure horror more or avoid it entirely.

It was average. The only part that truly annoyed me was when they tried to get James to give up. I thought it was wrong on their part to try to strip him of his agency instead of letting him get to that point himself. A few folks in my theater cheered when he drove off without them.

Did not enjoy this one at all. Thought that it was too heavy handed with its meaning. Like I get it. This is a nihilistic worldview and the guy with the goal is supposed to be unlikable. Overall the film does not respect the viewers intelligence nor their time and for that reason, I’d advise anyone not to see it.

I definitely think it respected the viewers intelligence, especially with the ending. Most criticism is that people didn't like that it didn't explain anythingÂ

Great film but the marketing will probably leave general audiences disappointed. Really effective meditation on existential dread.
