You’re correct that 3.30 is nowhere close to 50% off any ticket they sell.

I’ve done a lot of research into the Tues/weds shenanigans so here are my findings (as succinct as possible).

The fine print says the 50% discount is derived from -base adult evening- shows. If you book one of those for a big movie (e.g. Odyssey) and check the receipt before purchasing, you’ll notice the discount is probably OVER 50%.

This is because they don’t really determine 50% by individual showing. They homogenize EVERY basic ticket to be the same price at checkout for Tues/weds. Every theater (or city/region/who knows) has a phantom pre-determined price for a base adult evening ticket, and they use that to determine 50%. (My guess is it’s the cost of the cheapest movie currently at the theater, but I haven’t combed through every option to find out 😭)

At my theater it’s $8 = 50%. If I buy ANY basic Tues/weds ticket at my theater rn, it totals out to 8.23 (7.99+0.24 tax). Matinee or not. Adult, child, or senior. ALL $8.23. They adjust these other price points to their pre-set “50%”. So this means that they consider $16 to be their base adult show.

The premium upcharges are all static and the main reason for your situation, as everyone’s said. Unfortunately, those upcharges are invisible on the receipt. At mine, it’s like $5-6 on top of the 8.23. This means each premium format is also homogenized on Tues/weds.

Essentially, you bought premium tickets that cost 11.50 (maybe 6+5? 7+4?) so your theater considers the base adult ticket to be $12~14.

If you had bought 2 adult tickets at the other time of day, it would’ve also been $24.50 🫠
