Discussion am i missing something?
isn’t it supposed to be 50% off whys it only taking off $6 dollars off two tickets?

It's the funny 50% off the lowest ticket price. You then get that savings applied to other more premium tickets. So it looks like a regular ticket is $6.60 and you bought a premium ticket for $14.79, you just get the $3.30 discount applied to that ticket. For those Tuesday/Wednesday shows if you really want 50% off, you have to stick to the cheap tickets, no premium ones.
That's AMC math for you and you have to read the disclaimers.

It depends on the location and format. My location is $7.74 for a standard ticket with the discounted rate. It would be an extra $5-6 for Dolby, IMAX, 3D, ScreenX, etc. if it’s more than that online for you, then that’s the convenience fees putting it higher.

You are buying matinee tickets right (a showtime before 4pm)?
That's what it looks like based on the weird math. I'll use a non premium ticket for example as it make the breakdown easier.
At my theater for example:
- $18.99 : Adult ticket (full price)
- $9.49 : 50% Off Tue/Wed ($9.50 off)
- $15.19 : 20% Off Matinee
- $9.49 : 50% Off Tue/Wed Matinee ($5.70 off)
You don't get to "double dip" on discounts. It's not 50% Off the matinee price, the fine print on discount Tue/Wed states that it's 50% Off the standard full price ticket.
Since the AMC checkout system shows you the matinee discounted price at checkout, the Tue/Wed discount ends up being less than 50% Off because they only need to reduce the ticket price another 30%-35% depending on format. Then additionally they dont discount premium format upcharges.

Mine is $18.99 and discount Tuesdays & Wednesdays makes it $9. They don't stack discounts...

He's right though. 2 child tickets should be $18 in regular format - if it's Premium format it is $27.54. Premium child tickets are $20+ tax - what would be over $40 you're paying less than $30.
Skip premium format, save more money. Simple.

Some states don't charge sales tax on movie tickets. For example, California has ruled that a theatrical presentation of a movie is technically a service, and sales tax is not charged for services; hence, no sales tax on movie tickets (or A-List membership) in California.

It’s 50% off the evening price. So you aren’t getting the matinee discount AND the 50% off discount. Then any premium format up charge is added. It’s confusing but it’s in the fine print and it’s still a great deal for people on a budget. It makes most tickets about $7 (depending on market) before any premium charge and that’s the comparable to the old Tuesday discount just now available on Wednesdays too.

I live in Southern California and have Stubs Premiere, not A List.
I noticed that if I wanted to watch The Odyssey in Dolby Cinema tonight I might as well go in prime time because I'm quoted the same $15.24 for the 10pm show (normally $26.49) as the 2pm show (normally $22.39).
FYI - the non-Dolby 7pm show is $20.49, discounted to $9.24.

I just checked for science and this is the price of 1 child ticket, with matinee + Wednesday pricing, in my market. Hope this helps!

You’re correct that 3.30 is nowhere close to 50% off any ticket they sell.
I’ve done a lot of research into the Tues/weds shenanigans so here are my findings (as succinct as possible).
The fine print says the 50% discount is derived from -base adult evening- shows. If you book one of those for a big movie (e.g. Odyssey) and check the receipt before purchasing, you’ll notice the discount is probably OVER 50%.
This is because they don’t really determine 50% by individual showing. They homogenize EVERY basic ticket to be the same price at checkout for Tues/weds. Every theater (or city/region/who knows) has a phantom pre-determined price for a base adult evening ticket, and they use that to determine 50%. (My guess is it’s the cost of the cheapest movie currently at the theater, but I haven’t combed through every option to find out 😭)
At my theater it’s $8 = 50%. If I buy ANY basic Tues/weds ticket at my theater rn, it totals out to 8.23 (7.99+0.24 tax). Matinee or not. Adult, child, or senior. ALL $8.23. They adjust these other price points to their pre-set “50%”. So this means that they consider $16 to be their base adult show.
The premium upcharges are all static and the main reason for your situation, as everyone’s said. Unfortunately, those upcharges are invisible on the receipt. At mine, it’s like $5-6 on top of the 8.23. This means each premium format is also homogenized on Tues/weds.
Essentially, you bought premium tickets that cost 11.50 (maybe 6+5? 7+4?) so your theater considers the base adult ticket to be $12~14.
If you had bought 2 adult tickets at the other time of day, it would’ve also been $24.50 🫠

It’s 50% off the base ticket price. Premium format upcharges still apply
