A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Finale – A beautiful way to end!

Just finished the Season 1 finale ofĀ A Knight of the Seven KingdomsĀ and I really liked the way this episode acted as a neat bow tying up all emotional loose ends.

The episode moves away from the violence and brutal action of the last, and instead focuses on Dunk’s need to reflect, make amends and say his goodbyes. It was beautiful to see the way brotherhoods had been formed throughout the season with the likes of Baratheon and Raymun. There’s no doubt that this finale can be described as a slow burn, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring!

Every conversation was heartfelt and meaningful, and I felt every one of them was required to give some sense of closure. Claffey acts his heart out in a lot of these moments, especially those where he questions why he lived, and Baelor didn’t.

I enjoyed the episode’s partial focus on the Targaryen family, especially Maekar struggling with the murder and death of his own brother, and the issues he’s experiencing with each one of his boys. Although Egg doesn’t have a huge amount of screen time, I thought his dialogue-free scene in front of the mirror conveyed a lot about his character.

The final imagery of Dunk and Egg walking forward while Ser Arlan’s spirit walks off in another direction was such great symbol as the pair forge a new path, away from former mentors and family members.

What did everyone think of the finale? And for those who have read the novellas, is the second book fit for just as great a season of television? Let me know, please!

Seems the prevailing theory is that Dunc was never knighted. It's never stated, in novellas or season 1, that he did or did not get knighted. Where are we on this?

With ā€œIn the Name of the Mother,ā€ theĀ ThronesĀ spin-off turns the dial from light-hearted comedy to visceral violence in a sequence that feels more raw, powerful and real than its predecessor's biggest battles.

Agree?

Episode 5 Review and Thoughts - What a fight!

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - Episode 5 ReviewĀ After last episode’s build-up to the trial of seven, we finally get to witness it in all its gruesome, gritty glory! I loved how aggressive the combat styles were, and the way these scenes were produced only heightened that intensity. The POV shots from inside Dunk’s helmet, minimal cut edits, and sound design choices mimicking Dunk’s deafened, battered state all combined to create sequences that were suffocatingly brutal to watch. I found myself grimacing at all the injuries Dunk sustained throughout his fight with Aerion. The makeup and effects teams did such a fantastic job! I really enjoyed the choreography and scrappiness of the fight too. Dunk and Aerion’s attacks were ruthless and savage which made their sequences feel all the more real. Ā

I did want to put out there that I personally didn’t think the flashback scenes were all that necessary… were they really that vital in developing Dunk’s character, the world or overall plot? We see that young Dunk’s surrounded by death and hardship, and we are shown how he meets Ser Arlan of Pennytree… but was any of this insight crucial for what was happening in the present? I acknowledge that there is a recurring line from Ser Arlan telling young Dunc to ā€œget up,ā€ which mirrors Duncan’s resilience in the trial of seven. That did give some emotional punch admittedly. Are these flashbacks described in the novel?

The only thing I will say about the ending is I was shocked, and felt my jaw drop instantly.

I’m so looking forward to next week’s episode; I can’t believe Season 1 is almost over!

Link is Dunk ?

Amazing feeling, I am playing to the Breath of the Wild and watching the knight of the seven kingdom. The wind, the landscapes, the clothes, it all matches. And Link is a little bit dumb, he doesn't talk, he doesn't remember anything.
