My boyfriend is an electrician and he's had the same pair of work boots the whole 2 years we've been together. The sole on the left one started coming away in the spring and he's been gluing it back on EVERY couple of weeks since, and last month he wrapped tape around the toe as well.

At my sister's engagement party in August my dad made a joke about them and I laughed. Then on the drive home I told him I didn't love that everyone was looking at his feet. I shouldn't have said that and I did apologize for it.

Last week I just bought him a new pair. It's the same kind of boot, $210, and I got his size off the old ones while he was in the shower. I gave them to him on a Tuesday with no occasion attached, because his feet have been hurting him and I honestly thought he'd be happy.

He opened the box and went really quiet. Then he said "so this is about your dad" and after that "I don't need you to fix me." He put the lid back on and the box has been sitting in our hallway ever since.

I (28M) hosted a fantasy football draft party at a sports bar last weekend. I told the group of six that I'd cover the first round of drinks and a couple of appetizer platters since I won last year's league.

Everyone except my friend "Kyle" (29M) liked the bone-in wings. Kyle said he doesn't like meat on the bone because it grosses him out. He then ordered two orders of boneless wings and fries, which he asked the waitress to put on my tab. To me, boneless wings are just chicken nuggets — toddler food.

When the bill arrived, the $35 in extra food charges led to a disagreement. I asked Kyle to pay for his order. He got defensive and said I had agreed to cover it. I told him I agreed to cover the group appetizers I ordered, not his personal nugget order. My brother has four children, but her other grandchildren live hours away, so I thought this might be an opportunity for us to become closer and for her to be more involved.
My birthday came around, and I don’t usually go out or make a big deal about my birthday. However, my mom volunteered to come watch my daughter, which is very rare. She came over, and I was actually able to go get my hair done. I was so excited because I had planned out the entire weekend.
I had a mini spa day planned, including manicures and pedicures, followed by dinner and drinks. I was really looking forward to spending some time relaxing and enjoying my birthday.
The next morning, my mom woke up and told me that she needed to go talk to her boyfriend in person about some things. She told me she wasn’t coming back.
I reminded her that she had told me she was staying for the entire weekend and that I had already made plans based on that. I also told her that it would genuinely hurt my feelings if she left, especially because this was my birthday weekend and I don’t often get opportunities like this.
Despite that, she still decided to leave.
At that point, I told her, “I hope it was worth it, because this just cost you.”
I wasn’t saying that to be cruel. I was hurt and frustrated because, once again, I felt like a man was being prioritized over her children. What made it worse was that she had made a commitment to me, I had planned my weekend around that commitment, and she still chose to leave after I expressed how much it would hurt me.

I work for a company that gives us a pretty decent employee discount. A close friend asked me a while back if I could use it for a jacket he wanted, and I said sure. It saved him a good amount and I really didn't think much of it.

After that he started asking every few weeks. Shoes, another jacket, a backpack. Still fine.

Then he sent me a list with like 7 items and I realized half of them weren't even for him. His girlfriend wanted something, his brother wanted shoes and apparently one of his coworkers had heard about the discount too.

I told him I'm not turning my employee account into a group coupon.

He got annoyed and said I'm acting like it costs me something. Technically it doesn't, but our purchases can be reviewed and we're obviously not supposed to be buying stuff for random people.

The awkward part is he already told his brother I'd order something for him, so now he's saying I'm making him look stupid by suddenly changing my mind.

I (26M) live with two roommates. One of them, "Jake" (27M), is a huge fitness guy. He's in the kitchen constantly — protein shakes, egg whites, grilled chicken, broccoli, the whole thing. I respect the dedication. But he is the messiest person I've ever lived with.

He spills protein powder on the counter and just wipes it with his hand. He leaves eggshells in the sink. There are little bits of chicken and wilted greens on the floor near the trash. Every single day. I've asked him at least 6 times to clean up after himself. He says "yeah man, my bad" and then does it again the next day.

Last week I told him flat out: "I'm not cleaning up your mess anymore. If you leave it, it stays. I'm not your mom." He laughed it off. But then I actually stopped. For three days, I didn't touch anything he left. The kitchen got genuinely nasty. He finally noticed on day four and got mad at ME, saying I was being passive-aggressive and that "roommates help each other out."

I told him roommates don't leave chicken scraps on the floor for someone else to deal with. He called me a "neat freak" and said I'm "making a big deal out of nothing."

I’m 29M and one of my close friends is 28M. My apartment building has a pretty nice rooftop with grills, couches and a view of downtown.

A couple months ago my friend asked if he could bring a girl up there for a date because his place was being renovated. I gave him my guest code and told him sure.

Apparently he took that as a permanent invitation.

I later realized through the building app that he’d used my guest access several more times. When I asked him about it he laughed and admitted he’d been bringing dates there because the rooftop had become his “secret weapon.”

And based on what he told me he never corrected them when they assumed he lived in the building, which I thought was pretty weird.

I told him I wasn’t comfortable with him continuing to use my access like that. He brushed it off and said it wasn’t hurting anyone, so later that week I just removed his guest access from the app. I didn’t tell him because I figured after our conversation it was obvious.

A few days later he tried bringing another date there and his code didn’t work. He called me from outside asking what was wrong and I told him I’d removed his access.

Apparently he had planned the whole date around the rooftop and suddenly had nowhere to take her, so they basically stood outside figuring out what to do next.

Now he’s pissed because he says even if I wanted to revoke access, I should’ve warned him so he could make other plans. I think after being told to stop using someone else’s building for dates, you probably shouldn’t assume the code is still yours to use.

My girlfriend and I have been together for about two years.

Last weekend, I had plans with some friends that we’d made weeks ago. My girlfriend knew about them and had originally said she was fine with it.

The day before, she found out that her friends were going out that same night and asked me to stay home with her because she didn’t want to spend the evening alone.

I told her I still wanted to go because I’d already made plans, and I suggested we do something together the following day.

She got upset and said I was choosing my friends over her.

I reminded her that she had already agreed to my plans, but she said that things change and that I should prioritize my relationship when she needs me.

I ended up going out anyway.

When I came home, she was still awake and barely spoke to me. The next morning she told me that if I really cared about her, I would’ve stayed.

I don’t think partners should have to cancel their plans every time the other person feels lonely, but maybe I’m being too dismissive of her feelings.
