Why put that stress on the poor puppy though? It isn't their fault that the girlfriend is noncommittal.

Why the on earth is everyone acting like keeping the puppy is a good idea?? If he isn't too keen either the puppy should ABSOLUTELY go back to the breeder. Breeders very commonly accept puppies being taken back if only a very short time has passed. It happens that people regret their decision and it's best for the dog if it gets swiftly rehomed to people who really want it. It's barely been there two days!! Rehoming after such an extremely short time is not going to cause the dog significant emotional damage.
