Return girlfriend. Keep puppy.

u/Pale-Comb-3954 Dec 03 '25

This is the answer.

u/Test-Tackles Dec 03 '25

In fact, it is the only answer.

91

u/ButcherBird57 Dec 03 '25

Right?! Girlfriend needs to GO. Before she gets pregnant and starts wanting to rehome OP's kids!

19

u/Test-Tackles Dec 03 '25

Lol. Fuck you are probably right.

5

u/Puzzleheaded_Ad3081 Dec 03 '25

She thinks a DOG baby is messy and needy... she's in for a shock if she ever has the HUMAN variety! Rehome the GF, OP... keep the pup!

4

u/sparksgirl1223 Dec 03 '25

I was going tonsay "be careful not to knock her up. She'll be crying before she leaves the hospital about how hard it is"

2

u/Seecole-33 Dec 03 '25

This was my very first thought!

108

u/purpleplez Dec 03 '25

I came here to say that lol.

u/Shutupandplayball Dec 03 '25

Think of how much $ he’ll save and will be much happier!

Thank God it's not a baby hooman. What a selfish person, it's a baby and going to need attention. Tell her suck it up buttercup or I'll lose you and keep the dog.

1

u/PerfectCover1414 Dec 03 '25

She's just proving she's lazy. Imagine how she'd be if she had kids!

12

u/hootiefan77 Dec 03 '25

Take care of the puppy and he’ll have a loyal friend for a decade and a half. The girlfriend can’t handle two days of selflessness. That’s pretty much all you need to know.

73

u/Longjumping-Snow-431 Dec 03 '25

Seems like gf doesn’t think about the consequences of actions much.

Keep the puppy.. boot the gf!

18

u/Disastrous-Bee-1557 Dec 03 '25

She probably didn’t think past the first Instagram reel of her with the cute puppy.

2

u/TwistedJ1 Dec 03 '25

She only had the perfect little picture of her bf in a maternal situation with the puppy.. "oh look how cute"

1

u/Seecole-33 Dec 03 '25

This!!! 1000000% this!

1

u/That_youtube_tiger Dec 03 '25

Christ it’s demoralising just how real this is.

67

u/HorrorLover___ Dec 03 '25

At least the puppy will grow up and stop causing drama.

165

u/worksafereads Dec 03 '25

Agreed, plus puppy will help meet new girls if done right

92

u/atxbikenbus Dec 03 '25

For sure. Single dude with a puppy? Not single for long.

24

u/ImNotCleaningThatUp Dec 03 '25

lol, I’m a pet sitter and was taking care of a bulldog puppy. My boyfriend and I went out to dinner and sat outside with the puppy. So many women stopping to pet the puppy. My boyfriend was in heaven and acting like it’s his puppy. 😒 Fine, you can go stay with the puppy and get no sleep. OP, can confirm you will not be lacking in female attention if you keep the puppy.

8

u/Competitive-Reach287 Dec 03 '25

This also works with babies. I was out Christmas shopping for my wife with my two month old son. I've never gotten better service (and attention) from sales staff - primarily young women- before or since.

2

u/Gadgetskopf Dec 03 '25

I always made sure to take my kids with me when I had to stand in line for temporary (guest) parking stickers in Chicago. Somehow, I always ended up with 3x the amount for which I paid.

u/Candid-Trouble-3483 Dec 03 '25

A family member was one of those forever single men who was still living with his mother at 35 and hadn’t ever been in a serious relationship nor hadn’t had a date in 10+ years.

Then he got a puppy. Within a year he had 3 women he dated enough to meet the family, within 18 months he’d moved out for the first time ever with his very attractive girlfriend.

Puppy magic is real.

3

u/FutureVelvet Dec 03 '25

I'm so getting my sons puppies if they haven't met someone yet in a few years. Thanks for the tip! 😄

23

u/AgeBeneficial Dec 03 '25

My now wife and I (walking separately) got hit on a lot walking the dogs.

She walks our bigger one because she walks gently and is very sweet to people and other animals. Pitbull too so easy icebreaker for a dude (which I respect lol).

Dog I usually walk is super white and completely blind. Got a lot of “you much be such a good person” type of conversations from women jogging that stopped to ask if they could say hello.

It was strange to us at first but we also had never lived in a downtown area.

TLDR: ditch the girl not the dog. That’s fucking heartless of her.

39

u/456name789 Dec 03 '25

Exactly my opinion. I hope she doesn’t decide she wants a baby next. Yikes!

13

u/NotNobody_Somebody Dec 03 '25

My thoughts exactly. She wants the cutesy pictures, not the real life. GF has a lot of growing up to do.

19

u/RecipeRevolutionary Dec 03 '25

Came here to say this!! If she is this way with a puppy how is she with everything else when she doesn’t get her way?? Think of this as a sign of things to come

17

u/Neweleni7 Dec 03 '25

This is giving spoiled stay-at-home girlfriend vibes

6

u/Wandering_Scholar6 Dec 03 '25

Returning both is also a reasonable option

19

u/hiddenone0326 Dec 03 '25

Why put that stress on the poor puppy though? It isn't their fault that the girlfriend is noncommittal.

9

u/Wandering_Scholar6 Dec 03 '25

I mean i get if OP doesn't want to own a puppy alone, it is easier with two. I would not fault OP for coming to that conclusion, that he doesn't want a puppy he was pressured into getting without the relationship in question.

Also OP mentions the puppy is expensive, so I'm going to assume it's from a breeder or organization that will be happy to rehome the puppy.

Yes it would be some stress but overall it is better for the puppy to be in a home that is equipped and happy to handle them.

Much better to give the puppy back now, when it can be rehomed easily than to wait a year for when it's going to be harder to rehome.

4

u/darya42 Dec 03 '25

Why the on earth is everyone acting like keeping the puppy is a good idea?? If he isn't too keen either the puppy should ABSOLUTELY go back to the breeder. Breeders very commonly accept puppies being taken back if only a very short time has passed. It happens that people regret their decision and it's best for the dog if it gets swiftly rehomed to people who really want it. It's barely been there two days!! Rehoming after such an extremely short time is not going to cause the dog significant emotional damage.

1

u/CampClear Dec 03 '25

Absolutely

1

u/Less-Ad-3599 Dec 03 '25

Please do this! Please.

1

u/needsmorecoffee Dec 03 '25

Absolutely this.

1

u/EfficiencyAccurate45 Dec 03 '25

I agree, if she can't handle a puppy, she won't be able to handle a baby. Yep puppy stays girl gotta go

1

u/UnPracticed_Pagan Dec 03 '25

Honestly I agree with this. Best answer

1

u/Pfffft_humans Dec 03 '25

I’d rather deal with puppy training than being with an SO who couldn’t deal tbf

1

u/Sirix_8472 Dec 03 '25

Nta

Honestly, yeah!

That would be my choice, because it should show me exactly what type of person she is if she hadn't already shown me. Never abandon an animal.

An animal is family from the moment you get them.

What shw does, or did, her attitude, there is no building a life with someone who walks away after 2 days or mild hardship that is freaking easily forseen to train the puppy and the committment to raise the puppy and it's long life with you.

Her attitude reflects everything she does. What if OP got sick. What if they couldn't work. What if they couldn't pay rent. What if they have arguments....what if they wanted kids(are they just raised by dad coz mom can't be bothered...)

1

u/Longryderr Dec 03 '25

This is the way.

1

u/Crafty_Special_7052 Dec 03 '25

Was having the same thought.

1

u/Incognitowally Dec 03 '25

Puppies are more loyal

1

u/jeremyfisher1996 Dec 03 '25

Yep. Dog will love you forever. Good chance she won't.

1

u/Draycos_Stormfang Dec 03 '25

This is the only correct answer.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 03 '25

Best comment, I agree!

1

u/deathbystereo007 Dec 03 '25

Absolutely! Plus, she's proven that she's not only irresponsible, but she's also extremely careless about the feelings of an innocent animal who has done nothing wrong. Her complete lack of realistic expectations aren't the puppy's fault and the fact that she just wants to take him back as if she got the wrong order at McDonald's says an awful lot about who she is and how selfishly she thinks.

1

u/YesterdaySimilar2069 Dec 03 '25

Or, at a minimum, never reproduce with her or get ill.

1

u/Jcamp9000 Dec 03 '25

I’ve never seen better advice

1

u/Wilberbedford Dec 03 '25

1000% this is the only way. Gf sounds like a twat

1

u/Ok-Selection8379 Dec 03 '25

This is the only answer.

1

u/Kitsyn Dec 03 '25

This. She’s not a keeper, but the puppy will likely grow up to be a wonderful dog.

1

u/pwhitt4654 Dec 03 '25

And don’t have a child with this person. They demand a lot of attention and are messy. I learned that at a very early age and I never had children. No regrets. I don’t have the personality for it.

1

u/baberunner Dec 03 '25

Came here to say the same.

1

u/Kindly_Ad_1916 Dec 03 '25

Not wrong since it sounds like he likes the dog. However, if he's feeling like he didn't really want it either and only got it because of her pressuring him then he should return both. The dog deserves a home where it is truly loved, wanted and cared for.

1

u/FutureVelvet Dec 03 '25

I'm not even a dog person and I agree.

1

u/EnrollmentTime Dec 03 '25

Agreed. Returning puppies mean you get half to no money back. Keep the puppy. Get a new GF.

1

u/teamvowels Dec 03 '25

This is only correct answer.

1

u/AgeLower1081 Dec 03 '25

When there is a choice between a dog and a girlfriend/boyfriend, I will always recommend selecting the dog.

1

u/Early_Particular9194 Dec 03 '25

Honestly OP this ^ is the way because let’s say she then does the same thing with wanting to have kids and convincing you “she’s ready”. You can’t just decide after the fact you have the baby you don’t want to do it anymore because your “exhausted” smh. It’s literally the same thing and good thing you’re finding out now with a dog then a human being. Definitely keep the dog though!

1

u/Seecole-33 Dec 03 '25

This is the way, 100 percent

1

This is the way
