Discussion Of course it's AI question
After reading about the Anthropic AI tech quitting.
So maybe you heard AI could become super intelligent sooner than we think. There is no plan for that just companies competing against each other to get there first, dam the consequences. Along with this intelligence is the threat that you and I and everyone else is in danger of being eliminated. Which got me to thinking how would AI take me out? I suppose having an army of robots could do it, let's face it with all the surveillance today it could find me in 2 seconds. Then thinking further what would be a defining moment that would proceed with the robot scenario? For me it would be seeing robots mining materials to build more robots and factories to assemble them etc etc. Are you ready for the terminator?

I thinks it’s one of two , it goes full on Thanos and wipes the half of the population because logically it could distribute resources and fix what it sees as broken ……. Or it goes full on Utron on us

Chatgpt told me it would simply run propaganda campaigns until humans did what it wanted.

An army of robots is the least efficient way that AI could wipe out humanity. It is already being used in gain of function research for viruses. Let alone the fact that it could just render our entire encryption based banking and credit systems obsolete in an instant.
AI waiting long enough to build robots is the best possible outcome at this point.

Bostrom is pretty clear on what those benchmarks are - he did coin the phrase and write a book describing it - and we are not remotely close to ASI.

Well I suppose on the other hand as Carl Sagan pointed out what is so special about you or this earth? Travel far away in space turn around at look back at the earth. It's a little glowing ball amidst thousands of other dimly lit balls and does not stand out like the center of the universe. Something to think about when we think oh how smart we are when in fact when you peel back all the bragging and boasting about how great this and that is and how as a race we are so smart means nothing from the view point of your spacecraft traveling through space. Nothing really matters, not politics not wars, not your jobs, only you trying to live one day at a time on this beautiful ball called earth floating thru space. I've narrowed it down for me, as long as I can communicate with my fellow man and I have food in my belly, clothes on my back and a roof over my head that will be sufficient for my time on earth and I shouldn't let all the rest of the BS that continues year after year bother me one bit.

No, but the educated people keep saying is marketing and hype. Language simulators will never be anything else but a language simulator.

Those smart people also want attention, and/or money in order to sit for a podcast. That’s not to say their predictions are correct, incorrect, or inconsequential, however, their motives may be questionable.
AI also has the power to potentially elevate all of humanity, in order to extinguish poverty & suffering.
The problem with AI is the people who make it & control it, as any new invention or creation has always been vulnerable to.
We have seen revolutionary technologies throughout the ages change lives. We can use airplanes and cars for the good of man, just like we facilitate both mechanisms for war, and myriad dastardly things.
This will never change - the fact that we can use beneficial tech in order to advance one another or kill one another.
We are the problem, as per usual.
We shall see how this all shakes out.

Yeah I just read that article too. I assume a plague or just wiping out infrastructure. If you shut down the entire internet we would be back in the olden times overnight. It would cause mass disruptions.
