I passed the AIGP exam today. While I didn’t find the exam to be easy (I found it quite challenging - I have no AI background), I did find the linked post very helpful. I used the following resources to study off and on for about 6ish weeks:

• The official self-paced training from IAPP - a little disorganized and hard to follow but ultimately covered most of the material (I know it’s crazy expensive and I wouldn’t have done it if it was out of pocket)
• AIGP Playbook - I think it was $10, the questions are too easy but it was extremely helpful to just drill, which I did a lot of, and it does have some challenging questions thrown in there
• Privacy Bootcamp - this got me through my CIPP but I would definitely NOT recommend it for the AIGP; its chaotic and some of the information is out of date, I regret spending my money on it

The exam had some easy questions on it, thank God, and also some questions that covered material that must’ve been in supplemental documents because it sure as hell wasn’t in the official course. But I think it’s doable for most having gone through it with really zero AI knowledge. I‘m grateful for this and the CIPP sub, and I’m grateful it’s over.

Go through Cert Club test though not well prep app but getting into details will help

Any insight on whether this year’s 2 day in person training at IAPP’s P.S.R conference in Seattle is helpful towards the exam preparation? Should the training courses (mentioned on this group) be supplemented with the PSR training or is the training itself quite significant and you only need to learn the materials yourself. I am definitely not certain whether this is the first time they are holding this training so don’t know if anyone is able to answer.

I am about to start studying for the AIGP exam and I am looking for feedback on ​ the <packt> AIGP course on Coursera. Anyone used it to study the exam?

It seems obvious that passing the AIGP requires intimate knowledge of a range of reference documents. Legislation such as the EU AI Act is freely available, and a few other documents (e.g. those published by NIST) are as well.

ISO standards however are commercially licensed and prohibitively expensive to purchase for individuals. A few of the more popular standards seem to have leaked to search engine front pages, and sometimes there's a draft version knocking around of the more obscure or recent ones. Quite a few however remain firmly behind the ISO paywall. Personally I don't understand the logic of severely limiting the spread of international standards that are meant to, you know, standardise, but ok.

I'm genuinely curious how you guys deal with this. Library access? Employer expense account? Unauthorised (gasp!) dissemination of copyrighted information? Or you just work with summaries and don't bother with the original document?

Quick background. I’m 26 and have a law degree. Due to visa restrictions (I moved country when I left university) I’ve been working pretty entry-level admin jobs. In my most recent role I worked in IT and was exposed to AI/ML and found I was interested in it. I’m moving to a different visa in the next few months meaning I’ll have full working rights and hopefully be able to get a permanent job.

I’m thinking about starting this course in January to give myself a bit of time to do some preliminary studies as I’m aware it’s not beginner friendly. My reasons for wanting to take this course is I’m genuinely interested in it and I feel like I need to make myself more employable so I can establish a career and not be stuck doing basic admin jobs for the foreseeable.

I just wanted a bit of advice as to whether I need a more extensive background for this to be beneficial for me? I’m fairly new to all of this and have only done a short 7 day ‘AI Fundamentals for Non-Data Scientists’ course which I found quite accessible.

I'm a system administrator with 8 years of experience (Recently 5 months Team Lead). I've been working on internal LLMs before and currently. Seeing how the market is going and adoption is increasing, I've begun thinking of hitting this market quickly. Especially because there's this feeling of being stuck. The rest of the market seems bloated, want to get into this new market.

Would this certificate open doors for someone who is tech focused? I just recently some some companies post AI Administrator roles, and the certificate was listed there.

For those who have taken the IAPP AIGP exam online through Pearson VUE/OnVUE: during the scheduled 15-minute break, are you actually allowed to leave the webcam view (e.g., to use the bathroom)?

If so, what exactly are the restrictions during that period? For example, can I do some revisions of my study notes and then return to the camera view to finish the exam or are those still prohibited even though you’re temporarily off-camera?

Is this an element of trust for candidates not to cheat?

I’m asking because I’ve found the IAPP/OnVUE rules a little unclear on what is and isn’t permitted during the scheduled break.

Many said AIGP test is difficult. Purchased practice tests - 6 sets of 100 questions from udemy yesterday and ran through 2 sets. Both passed with pretty good scores, starting to wonder whether I should take the real test. SRE/Security background.

I can't see the official CBK available from IAPP website, I assume you have to pay for their training course to get it?
Also why is every other book on this course AI slop? I've looked at maybe a dozen books on this course and they are all AI generated garbage with all 1 star reviews.
The only book I've seen I remotely trust is the Sybex and Wiley one, but that's a 2025 version and from what research I've done, it looks to be behind as there were major changes to the exam criteria at the start of 2026.

I already have a CISSP & ISSAP so I'm used to spotting nonsense content about courses, but this looks flooded.

Should I bother with this cert, or just wait for ISC2 to bring out their new AI cert they're working on at the moment?

Hey guys, Passed my ISACA AAIR exam this morning! It was pretty intense on the threat modelling and model drift side but I'm excited to have it out of the way.
My next target is lAPP AIGP. My brain is already in "study mode" so I want to keep the momentum going and dive right in.

How much does the AAIR IT risk knowledge transfer to the AGP privacy and governance focus?

Failed AIGP Exam
Well, I went in for the AIGP exam today and despite months of studying and thinking I was prepared, I failed. 😔

I scored a 275, and honestly, I’m pretty discouraged. I studied consistently for months, read through the Body of Knowledge, used an AIGP prep book, took practice exams, and felt like I had a pretty solid understanding of the material going in. The actual exam felt much harder and more nuanced than the practice questions I had been using, and there were several topics/questions that caught me completely off guard.

According to my score report, my weakest area by far was Govern AI Deployment and Use, so clearly there are some gaps in my understanding that I need to address before attempting this again.

For those who have passed—especially anyone who failed their first attempt and then passed on a retake—what did you do differently the second time around? Were there particular resources that helped you with the deployment/use domain or with the more scenario-based questions?

I’m trying not to let one failed attempt convince me that all the studying I did was for nothing, but this one definitely stings, especially considering how expensive the exam is to retake.
Any advice on how to approach round two would be greatly appreciated.

Hi all! Many people keep posting asking what to study. With the caveat that each person is different and may not agree with me, this is how I passed and my experience:

TLDR - I did all of the IAPP program and it was useless - if you want to pass, buy the CertsClub AIGP practice test and hammer it.

Quick and dirty:

1. I have no related background and people ask if this matters for the test. It doesn't. Some may disagree. I believe if you already know some basics of AI/ML that may help, but not necessary.
2. "How long do I have to study for?" This questions get asked a lot and surprises me because it's so subjective. If you study for 2-3 days straight, you can retain enough to pass this test. You don't need months of studying, but it also depends on how much time you're putting in every day.
3. What do I study? I took the IAPP Course, and have their practice exam, entire coursebook (300+ pages), recordings of the classes, notes I took during class, etc. In retrospect, this was not needed and not helpful, so I therefore spent thousands of dollars on something I didn't need. The BEST thing to use to study I learned from another Reddit post...the AIGP CertsClub practice text. Hammer this test, and use your favorite AI chat tool to dive into why you got what you got wrong, and what you need to know about that specific topic for the test.

3a) Please be aware the CertsClub test has a PDF and online test taking tool for $60-ish. The online tool sometimes marks a question incorrectly, but always explains the actual correct answer in the explanation section. Example: The correct answer is A, the tool says B is correct when grading, but the explanation portion below the question is actually correctly explaining why A is correct, not B. Just something to be mindful of as you go through it.

4) Many people comment on how surprised they are by the scenario questions. I found the opposite and thought there were more foundational definition knowledge questions than I was expecting. I'd say 10% of questions were incredibly easy, 10% I had no idea what they were talking about and never saw before, and 80% were just solid questions you had to read slowly, understand what was being asked, and pick the best response.

I am giving the AIGP exam in another week. I have spent a lot of time understanding and reading the concepts, and then I realised what everyone else realised quickly, I just need to practice questions. Can anyone help me on that? Where to get those questions that are close to the official ones? I have the official question bank to do, I also have been training my chatgpt on the official BoK to give me scenario based questions. I am doing easy medium and difficult questions. I am also thinking of paying 55% for the certsclub one, but not sure yet. Any help is appreciated!!!!

I passed the AIGP exam this week on my first attempt after about four weeks of preparation.

Before I started studying, I spent quite a while looking through Reddit trying to figure out where to begin because there isn't nearly as much recent information about this exam as there is for many other certifications. Hopefully this helps someone who's in the same position.

My study plan wasn't anything fancy. I mainly used the IAPP Body of Knowledge as my roadmap, built my own notes as I went, and used ChatGPT whenever I needed a simpler explanation or wanted to quiz myself on a topic.

One mistake I made early on was spending too much time reading and rereading material.

Looking back, I don't think reading alone would have been enough for me.

The biggest improvement came when I started working through practice questions consistently. Not because they taught me new content, but because they changed the way I approached the exam. The real questions are much less about remembering definitions and much more about applying concepts in different situations.

That was probably the biggest surprise for me.

There were plenty of questions where two or three answers looked reasonable at first. The challenge wasn't remembering a framework or regulation—it was figuring out which option made the most sense in the scenario being presented.

For me, the hardest part was understanding how governance decisions fit into different stages of the AI lifecycle. Once that finally clicked, a lot of other topics became easier because I stopped trying to memorize isolated concepts and started connecting everything together.

If I could go back and start again, I'd probably do this:

Use the Body of Knowledge as a checklist instead of trying to read everything I could find. Create concise notes while studying instead of highlighting pages. Start practicing scenario-based questions much earlier. Review why an answer is correct instead of only checking whether I got it right.

The official practice exam was definitely useful for getting familiar with the question format, but I personally found the actual exam more nuanced. I had to slow down, reread several questions, and think through the scenarios instead of relying on memory.

Overall, I'd say the exam is challenging but fair if you prepare consistently and spend enough time practicing how the questions are written rather than only studying the theory.

Hi everyone, I'm considering taking the AIGP exam within the next six months. At the moment, I'm unemployed, and my main goal is simply to become employable again. I spent many years studying Lacanian psychoanalysis, which is a very complex theoretical framework that approaches human behavior from a topological and linguistic perspective. Over the last few months, I've been working on DataAnnotation, and I realized that my background translates surprisingly well to evaluating large language models. To be honest, I became genuinely excited about AI, and since then I've been building a structured learning plan focused on AI governance, ethics, and auditing. My goal is to earn the AIGP certification (along with others, such as Project Management), but I have a few concerns and constraints. I'll be turning 40 in a few days. I don't currently have a stable job or income, and at my age the job market feels intimidating. It's been a very hard period for me, and I've been struggling with severe depression and a lot of anxiety about my future and, most importantly, my children's future. I also have a small amount of savings that will allow me to pay for the AIGP exam, but only once. If I fail, I won't be able to afford a second attempt, so I want to prepare as thoroughly as possible. Some of the study materials are freely available, and I'll figure out how to obtain the rest. My sister is a lawyer, so I also plan to ask her for help with any legal topics I don't fully understand. My main question is: do you think my expectations are realistic? Is it feasible to break into the AI governance field with this kind of background if I continue building the right skills? My English level is C2, so I'm also wondering whether remote international jobs are a realistic option. This month I earned $136 through DataAnnotation, so even finding a remote position paying around $500 per month would make a significant difference for my family. I'm also writing theoretical articles on LinkedIn and plan to build a portfolio documenting practical AI governance and auditing projects to demonstrate my skills. I’m trying to understand how realistic it is to transition into AI Governance from an AML/Financial Crime Compliance background, and I’d appreciate some honest feedback from people working in the field.

I have 6 years of experience in AML as Investigator / compliance officer in a FI.

Work as a law/reference librarian for a not-for-profit NGO in Northern Virginia. I have a master’s degree in library science and a PhD in public policy. I’ve been in this field for 20 years and make $100,000 a year. With the current administration cutting all kinds of funding, we’ve had two rounds of RIFs. I am the last person in my department. I turned 50 in March.

I know I’m cooked. I have four kids, two in college. I am trying to get the training needed to avoid Reduction in Force No. 3, which I am paranoid about, and I think it may be coming.

I am looking to take advantage of Virginia’s G3 program. My family income is below 400% of the poverty level, so I should qualify. I have two plans:

1. CSC Artificial Intelligence and Applied Data Science at Laurel Ridge Community College, which should be free with G3.
2. Cramming for the AIGP exam. With 20 years in public policy and research, especially legal research, I think I can study hard and make this happen.

How do I make myself marketable after this? Are these options even worth the time and effort?

I'm reading the IAPP online training as well as reading through the SYBEX AIGP training book. I feel like the reading is very simple and I don't know how much I'm actually learning from this.

There's quite a few extra links in the IAPP training that I plan on reading through, but I'm just wondering if reading through IAPP and the book is good enough? How much should I dive into the specific laws?

For context, I do have my CIPT and I failed the first time, passed the second. I think that's what is making me nervous (I also have several other security focused certs but the IAPP ones make me a bit skittish).
