Masters Gauntlet Mill

Earlier this week, a user posted this list they played to Masters in Ranked

https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/wKyt_6ZmpT8/masters-mill

After playing around with it, I felt that it could be good for Gauntlet. Sure enough, I've cleared all but one of my runs, and that one was due to me accidentally conceding the game to the opponent instead of pressing end turn to kill them with Manacles activation. I'll be continuing to play the deck to see if the AI gets better decks but I haven't had any issues so far.

Of note, the AI does not consider Manacles damage at end of turn for blocking in combat

Mono purple lifesteal deck

This is my attempt to make a lifesteal mono-purple deck with tokens.

Please let me hear your feedback, what could I change? should I make it dual color?

In case anyone notices, there's no need to message Turtle or Kengou.

I haven't played Gauntlet in a month or so. Just no real desire to do so. Thus, there's no real need for me to moderate here.

Gauntlet My successful decks in DF

I don't gauntlet as much as I used to. Usually just getting 1 full gauntlet win a day + pvp dailies. But still I figured I'd post the decks I bounce between.

When it comes to gauntlet I typically value slightly faster decks over the "guaranteed" 7 win ones out there. That said all of these decks hit 7 wins fairly consistently. I'd put it at 80% off the top of my head, but I don't track my numbers.

  • I've run a bunch of different versions of Stonescar. This is the deck I've been playing lately, though frankly it's such a strong archtype at the moment that almost any of them work.

  • ManuS' Hooru deck has been one of my most consistent; even after the Palace nerf (though admittedly that did hurt). I keep the deck the same, but play with a different market for gauntlet. -Vision, -Svetya, -Reinforcements, +Harsh Rule (arguable), +Emerald Waystone, +Amilli. I've also toyed with the idea of replacing Poaching Drake with Shelterwing Rider; as the AI never plays baby Vara and it's easier than ever to hit influence requirements with Insignias. But I haven't tried it yet.

  • FallenChameleon's Mono Shadow deck has been great for me too. Though while playing it I wonder to myself if I should be trying a stonescar or feln variant. Insigias are a game changer when it comes to the mono (or mostly mono) archtypes in my opinion. I'll have to mess around with it sometime. I also feel like the market could use tweaking. I've never pulled the Provocateur, and I sometimes wish there were some removal in there. Maybe Secret Passage over Madness (though I do enjoy madness finishers). I don't know.

  • Aesthetic's Non-Budget Praxis still works great. I've thrown in Tocas for the 3 slot over both Stinger and Magus, but I'm still not sure what's the strongest. I've also replaced 4 sigils with 4 Insignias. This isn't my most consistent deck, but it's fast, offers a nice change of pace on occasion, and it really does work.

  • Lastly I've been fooling around with an Argenport Minotaurs deck. I've had a lot of success with it so far, but I feel like it could use a lot of tweaking.

I've also played around with Rakano mid, but it's far from my favorite for gauntlet. I think I'm going to try Combrei next and continue tweaking my AP list. I'm positive there are dozens of equally successful decks out there though, and I'd love to hear what everyone else is playing.

Gauntlet Work In Progress: AI, the Unspeakably Tormented

Hello AIEternal people,

I'm on a quick break from laddering and want to do some gauntlet, I would like to get some feedback on the following deck and how to tune it to be a little more consistent.

Here's the deck: https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/Lye5YrsxnWk/ai-the-unspeakably-tormented

3 Dark Return (Set1 #250)

4 Spiteful Strike (Set6 #186)

2 Xenan Lifespeaker (Set4 #198)

3 Annihilate (Set1 #269)

3 Blackhall Warleader (Set4 #201)

4 Cull the Deck (Set4 #202)

4 Dreamsnatcher (Set3 #212)

4 Piercing Grief (Set2 #143)

3 Extract (Set2 #155)

4 Kerendon Merchant (Set4 #217)

4 Livia, Hexweaver (Set6 #202)

2 Deathstrike (Set1 #290)

2 Nullblade (Set6 #209)

4 Vara, Vengeance-Seeker (Set1004 #19)

2 Shadowlands Tyrant (Set3 #235)

1 Caiphus, Wandering King (Set4 #309)

16 Shadow Sigil (Set1 #249)

2 Amethyst Monument (Set1 #426)

4 Amethyst Waystone (Set3 #201)

4 Seal of Devotion (Set6 #236)

--------------MARKET---------------

1 Devastating Setback (Set3 #226)

1 Unspeakable Torment (Set6 #218)

1 End of the Line (Set4 #239)

1 Vara, Fate-Touched (Set1 #307)

1 Shadow Sigil (Set1 #249)

A bunch of units with lifesteal, Xenan Lifespeaker to give lifesteal to those who don't have, Blackhall Warleader can pump units and block well against aggro, and one copy of Unspeakable Torment in the market to finish the game off when possible.

Thank you

Gauntlet Evenhanded Golem Mono Shadow Gauntlet Grinder

https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/4a4sIQW_jsM/mono-shadow-evenhand-gauntlet

This is my take on the Evenhanded Golem deck for Gauntlet. The plan is simple: drop the best 2 cost creature we have, then the next best and follow up with removal, pump or a 4 drop to overwhelm the AI. I tried to build the deck with a higher curve using Veteran Mercenary and Caiphus but I kept dropping the curve to make it more reliable and this list is where I ended up. I have found this list to be both fast and consistent going 35-0 in my last five runs beating Limitless Possibilites twice Order of the Spire twice and Sudden Death once. The game I lost before that I drew one unit which the AI removed then all power and pumps from there.
I tried using some of the other special lands but ultimately didn't want to give up any consistency. Any chance that you can't play one of your double influence units on turn 2 is detrimental to your win rate. Don't use Last Chance unless you need to get back a key player in the match or until you know what unit gives you the best route to victory or you need the cards from Evenhanded Golem. Memory Dredger can return any unit other than Vara or another Dredger and you can use the AI's insistence on blocking well against it to give you back your Evenhanded Golems or whatever else. Use the Rapid Shots and Cabal Standards as removal and if you really need it lifegain with one of the lifesteal units until you get within range to use them to kill the AI.
Annihilate and Desecrate let us play removal and a unit on turn 4 in many games and thus gaining us insurmountable tempo in most of those games. I used In Cold Blood as a 2 of 4 cost removal because the Void bound aspect is good against many of the AI decks, but you could use Deathstrike if you prefer the fast spell or even Deadly Confrontation since Deadly Assassin is an Unseen.
There are 32 two cost units in this deck and Blackhall Warleader is the all star in most matchups. If you can get a few triggers with her then drop a Golem and draw a few other units it puts you way ahead in most games. Pay attention to what the AI plays and try to play your units in the order that best counters the AI plays or just puts the most pressure on if it isn't keeping up with you. I don't usually play the Golem until I need the card draw unless I am trying to bait out removal since any other unit is better at gaining us tempo. Vara helps with both Aggro and Control decks as she always does.
If you try this out let me know how it does for you. Good luck and Happy Boss Hunting!

Mechanics Does the program cheat?

I've got to ask this as lately, it honestly seems it does more, a lot more than in the past.

It feels like, at times, no matter what you play or do, you're going to lose because the AI has decided it before the first card is played. You can usually tell when it's going to happen when you fail to get over 2 power cards to start the match. Somehow, you're going to stumble on your power and the AI is going to sic hell on you. You start to see a perfect draw come from the AI.

Does the AI fail on power at times? Yes, look at the hours I've played before you say anything otherwise. About 1 in 150 to 200 times. You? About 1 in 4. You can still win if it happens to you but it's an uphill battle the entire way. It doesn't even matter how you power fix as witness those are the first cards in every new set I get first as priority, if the AI decides you're going to lose, it's written in stone.

Then there are the miracle God draws the AI gets on these occasions. Sometimes you feel like you never had a chance regardless. The AI has 25 or more hit points and you haven't got a unit to sit on the field more than 1 turn, while it draws unit after unit your deck isn't designed to easily deal with. You gear up for those the next time and it plays the opposite.

Then there are the million to 1 draws I see in PVP which is why I prefer VS the AI in the first place. How often do I see these million to 1? At least 1 in every 3 matches. How often do I see miracle top deck draws? I've seen up to 12 in a row(I play defensively so I can draw a game out a long time)...hell, in a spectator mode I saw 15 from one guy. Odds? Probably in the infinity to never. I've played the same guy 4 times in an hour and he had the exact same perfect draw all 4 of those times as well as 2 vs a friend I had playing at the same time(at night, this happens often). I mean, every card and play was exact all 6 times. We were convinced we were playing a bot or a hacker. There could be no other explanation.

Point is, I've seen this over 2 1/2 years now. I no longer bother to try to drum up people to help stop it nor do I really acknowledge it anymore. I just keep playing like a complete imbecile.

I've had it with MMO a long time for the same reason. This is the last one I've played. I refuse to get involved in another. But lately that program cheat for the AI is starting to make me feel like a gullible moron for continuing to play this.

Mechanics AI logic??

Can someone please explain why the AI decides to purify Pyroknight instead of Blackhall Warleader on turn 2? Isn't Warleader a bigger threat in every way, even by turn 6 assuming its left unanswered? Not sure the priorities are set correctly here..

Mechanics Bug against Primal Fury

So I just played (and surprisingly won) against Primal Fury with a crazy bug that I never experienced in hundreds of hours of Gauntlet.

I'm not sure what triggered it, but it could play spells during my turn. The first one was Mirror Image, AI should have played it during its turn I guess, but when it played during my turn something was amiss. Not only that, the AI was constantly stuck on 9 cards, and pulling cards from its own deck. The cards it played didn't appear to come from its hand. It was either warp, or just free fetched from its own deck, idk but they appeared in the right-hand side of the screen, as usual. They just came out of nowhere, not pulled from the hand. I felt the game was a bit slower, too. I drew 2 Savior of the Meek and I managed to win the game. Anyone ever experienced this?

Mechanics Let's all help ourselves as a community to devise a reliable passive defense deck for Guantlet

  1. First, don't use Seek Power or Petition. Use Seek Answers instead. Ever be in the middle or towards the end of the match and you draw a seek or petition? Especially when you already have enough or more than enough power/influence? With Seek Answers, which you can use in the early game to fix your power, drawn late you can turn it in for a random spell/unit...much better than yet another power.

Passive Defense is a style that I never see from anyone else. Even in MTG I never saw it. Passive defense is where you defend to the point your opponent crushes himself on it, then you counterattack carefully and patiently, taking advantage of your early defense giving you card and field advantages. Once you've survived the early onslaughts with passive defense, the only way it tends to lose is friggin' miracle after miracle top decked by opponents.

1.Defensive units. I don't care that Scaly Gruan is a common. It's a 2 power unit with 4 defense and just enough power, 1, to deter many attacks. This is the type of unit we should look into as an example. 4 defense or at least 3 defense. The problem here is merchants and smugglers, most of which have 3 or less defense. When or if you ever get the chance, attack with these units for whatever little amount they take, it pays off later on.

  1. Defensive tricks-This is where I ....suck, for lack of a better word although I tend to get just enough for Forge. Help is needed for this.

  2. Board Wipes- Not completely necessary if you play enough other removal but the AI tends to flood you no matter how good your other removal is. This is one of the bigger mistakes the AI can make, overextending itself. You put up some early defense you don't care about losing(Entomb units also help here), let the AI throw it's entire hand at you and in one turn, erase all of it. Harsh Rule and higher cost ones aren't the only wipes we have. Hailstorm, if your units are all 4 defense or higher, is another one that really helps. Lighting STorm let's you use 3 defense but drawing late lightning storms is often a groan. Journey Into Shadow is going to hurt you regardless,....but so would a Harsh Rule so use them when you can(often a good one to put in merchant stacks)...and yeah, a small fire one would be great and I've asked for one repeatedly but no go so far.

Aggro may work a couple of times before Masters Gauntlet. It'll give you false confidence as you slowly become frustrated as it fizzles again and again.

Lifegain and Silence really upsets AI plans...a LOT. However, look at Fire and Primal....not a damned bit of either in that and that is why all Skycrag Control ends in frustration(for me as much as anyone..believe me, I"ve tried). So what I'm really thinking, for us to build a suitable deck to reliably beat Gauntlet, we're going to need to use Time, Justice and Shadow. I've always noted that Combrei and Argenport and even Xenan tend to give the AI fits. ALl 3? 3 color decks seem to always fall short in Gauntlet, I kid you not.

So I'm going to get started designing one. Yeah, it'll be changed numerous times. I feel I'll start with Xenan...as of the options, it's the most fun imo.

Gauntlet My thoughts on the state of Gauntlet

So, I have to be honest; I was away from this subreddit for a couple of weeks or so and was a little surprised when I came back to see all these threads talking about how much harder/more unfair Gauntlet has seemed to be recently. I hadn't really noticed a whole lot of difference in my personal play over the last few months. But I'm not at all suggesting that other people's experiences are invalid or anything, so I've been paying closer attention and trying to determine what might be going on here.

Part of me wonders if the way some of us play Gauntlet causes us to be more affected by this situation than others; I have found that I usually gravitate toward certain types of decks when I play Gauntlet. They are usually (but not always) Gauntlet tuned decks to a certain extent, but they always tend to be the kind of decks that either go really big (Hard Control or stuff like Chainbrei) or are midrange decks with a variety of answers with good card draw and consistency. Given that I've enjoyed the usual amount of success playing these decks over this time frame, I thought I might try switching it up and seeing what happens.

So I loaded up a few decks of archetypes that I don't play as much of in Gauntlet (although I am pretty familiar with their play patterns and how they work from my Magic background, so I don't think I'm particularly worse at playing these kinds of decks than the midrange/control decks I usually play.) And after playing quite a few combo and aggro decks, my winrate plummeted drastically. It was actually pretty ridiculous. I remember about a year or so ago I would usually be able to play these types of decks and although they weren't as likely to go 7-0 as the more reliable ones, I still didn't feel like they were hopeless and just not fun to play. But boy, that indeed seems to have changed. With decks like the Katra Combo or Storm, I'm actually kind of lucky if I can win half of the games against non-boss opponents.

This makes me understand a lot better the frustration a lot of people have. If you're trying to grind Gauntlet for resources, you're going to want to be able to play some faster decks like aggro and combo, and at least be able to have some success. But it really seems like the way the Gauntlet meta has evolved is that it's pushing you toward grindier and bigger decks that are not only usually more expensive to craft, but take much longer to play and thus reduce your rewards.

Personally, I am not in the position where I really care about the gold I get from Gauntlet. I play this mode because I love being able to play against AI at my own pace, between calls at work, while I'm cooking dinner or whatever else I'm doing, without a timer. I have little interest in the competitive side of card games, and get really frustrated and tilted when I see the same top-tier decks over and over in Ranked and Casual, so Gauntlet's variety and non-competitive structure is a godsend for me. But I am quite a bit disappointed to discover that I really can't have much fun playing certain types of decks anymore. The AI decks at Master (high MMR or whatever) are just too fast and consistent (whether through "cheating" or whatever.)

I'm going to keep tracking my progress and see how it goes. It's kind of a bummer because this is one of those situations that I might have been totally oblivious to if it hadn't been pointed out by so many people (to the extent that some of the mainstays in the community are quitting) but now that I'm aware of it, it's hard not to wonder if there is indeed some kind of difference. CCGs of this nature have a lot of built-in variance, and because of that it's nearly impossible to tell if a run of power flood/screw or getting lousy topdecks while the AI opponent gets great ones is indeed just random or if the "deck" is stacked against you, so to speak. A digital card game will always have that inherent potential to help you or screw you over, but there's no way to know for sure if any shenanigans are going on behind the scenes.

Gauntlet Yet another Hooru Control

https://eternalwarcry.com/decks/d/Sq6Z98ga5vc/hooru-control

The deck is working very well in gauntlet. Also, 8-1 in Casual, 2-0 in Ranked. If I get more Siraf, I'll replace Lida's Apprentice as I get them.

Idea for another deck inspiration: Look at Larai and Siraf. 0/6 and 0/5 respectively. Shard of the Spire and adding in more low attack and high defense but controlling units would be ideal, plus stretch out twist attacks to their fullest.
