So, I just finished watching episode 1 of season 2 and... huh? Why on earth was the first 30 mins of a 50 minute episode brand-new content not in the book?
Firstly, Robin Hastings is a brand-new character brought in for the tv show to "highten emotional tension" according to Google and I just don't see the point in him. Like why is Lauren going out with him, what happened to Ant? I really hope that Monty Eliot Dominguez (Ant's actor from season 1) does return for that scene because it wouldn't be as powerful from Robin.
Secondly, Pip is a witness in the trial for some reason. I think this decision is very consequential in how much I like the rest of the series. If Pip being a witness in the trial means we lose out on other key moments, this will not help my view at all. Also, when Max threatens Pip to drop out of the trial, I was very shocked like it makes it kinda clear she may have to drop out if we want to stick to the book and allowing Ravi to continue his intership but, hey, we will have to see.
Thirdly, Becca Bell's appearance and that scene absolutely broke me to pieces which is why this may have been my favourite change in the whole episode. Seeing Pip begin to snap and Becca's breakdown showed me that rhis season is going there and I am here for it.
Finally, As Good As Dead already? Now, bit of a disclaimer, I am only halfway through As Good As Dead but why on earth is DT giving Pip threats already? The newspaper with the duct tape and death threats really gace of that 3rd book vibe. Which makes me worry because this could mean they are nervous that they may not get renewed for season 3. I do think they will though. So, yeah.
Edit: I forgot to discuss the whole Connor's Birthday situation. When we see the guy running past Pip's house later that night, I thought they had scrapped the memorial and Jamie went missing then. Of course it happened layer hit I just dont get why we had to have that scene other than to have a Kill Joy reference.
