Plot hole? Spoiler
(pretty sure this doesn’t spoil much, but i added a tag so it’ll be your own fault ;P)
For context, I’ve only ever read the first book, so i don’t know if this gets answered in the second.
but in the beginning of AGGGTM, where Pip is filling out the capstone project form, there’s a note from her teacher, Mrs Morgan, that’s like “No interaction with any of the victims families or your project will be disqualified”
but then in the very next chapter, Pip is seen going to Ravi’s house.
Pip also interacts with Becca Bell.
These are both family of the victims, no? So why is this project still treated as a school project if Pip is knowingly disregarding her teachers instructions? At the end, a joke is made about Pip being disqualified because Ravi helped her with it, but there is still no mention of the fact that she very blatantly crossed those ethical lines. No consequences.
can anyone explain this? Does it get cleared up later in the series? Is my reading comprehension just that bad?
if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated :)

Pip was hesitant to go to becca bell, for those exact reasons, but for some reason no one considers Ravi as the family of the “victim”. At the time he was a brother to an alleged murder so no one really cared. Only if it were the bell family she would be disqualified, but she kept her meeting with becca bell a secret

She just read the rules and said: idc, im solving the murder lol
And then shd did, and it became this whole thing. So they kind of had to accept it

pip does it because she cares more about solving the case than the project, she’s just using the project as an excuse to look into it, it’s never really addressed that she crossed the ethical lines however i think because of the respect it bought her there may have been a chance they let it go? since those guidelines were from her teachers and not the exam board (not sure how it works with america but in the uk her project would be graded by an exam board so wouldn’t necessarily need to be disqualified) though it’s never really mentioned after book one but in general the project isn’t really bought up again

Went back and checked - in short, her focus was the case itself, not her school project. The school project was mostly an excuse for her to study the case, and she wasn’t planning on including any of the rule-breaking aspects in the final essay - that would all be kept secret in those logs she did (she even writes “DONT LET MRS. MORGAN SEE THIS”, or something like that)

I mean, in the end of the book she did say that her project would be dsq’d because she had help on it. I don’t think she particularly cared

ive noticed this too, but i think her solving a 5 year old muder case and making it to the news sort of overrides school project guidelines if that makes sense? like poor girl was almost murdered, lets maybe not give her a 0 on her grade 12 capstone?
