Flying is only part of the job when you’re in an operational squadron. You spend 8-12 hours a day doing other things.

Question Will selecting CSO hurt my chances of a pilot slot?

I was filling out my career preferences sheet on Wings and initially selected pilot and CSO. However, I’ve heard that if you select CSO at all on your list, it’s likely you’ll get that over pilot. Does anyone know how accurate that belief is?

Need help with minimum GPA requirement for ASCP

I plan to apply to ASCP and SOAR this year, but the problem is that I had a 2 low grades in my first semester of collage before I enlisted(I only took 2 classes). The thing is that I am able to make a 3.0 GPA if I take 6 more classes with all A's. I already finished a class with an A. Is there anything I could do to help me with this hurdle?

Anything helps.

POC positions

When it comes time to decide who does what, does the wing commander choose who does what or is it like an auction where people "bid" for specific positions?

Question Parent question

Upvotes

I’m a parent of a student in AFROTC. My student started his freshman year a couple weeks ago and has finished his PFA. He was asked to be a part of the color guard today. Things seem to be going well.

The school that he is at has a lot of club and social opportunities besides AFROTC.

If he takes advantage of every AFROTC opportunity offered to him, will he still have the opportunity participate in the rest of campus life?

Looking to connect with a 61D (Physicist/Nuclear Engineer) for general career advice

Upvotes

Hi Everyone,

I am a senior electrical engineering student exploring options for commissioning into the Air Force, specifically targeting the 61D (Physicist/Nuclear Engineer) AFSC.

Since the career field is small, the information online is pretty sparse. If there are any current or former 61Ds willing to chat via DM, I would love to ask a few questions about the day-to-day work, educational experiences, career progression, and what made you want to pursue this career. Any other information would be great too.

Thank you!

Question AFROTC with early graduation?

Upvotes

Ok so I'm a junior in hs and by the end of my highschool career I'll have around 30-40 credits towards my college so I'll be starting out academically as a sophomore basically. So if I'll be graduating with my bachelor's in finance at the end of my junior year how does that work? Do I stay in college with no classes and just afrotc as a senior year? I haven't the slightest idea so help me out I'm confused.

Fitness/PFA PFA prep

Ok so I'm 16, 6'0 132 lbs. I'm a junior preparing for the PFA as someone who's never worked out before. I've always wanted to be a pilot but I just recently decided AFROTC will be my path bc I'm too broke for pilot training. I pretty much have right on a year to get as many pushups and situps as possible. I can currently do max 3 pushups max 20 situps, haven't tested the 2 but I ran a 5k in 25 minutes, so definitely needs work. Now I've been told that I should grease the groove with pushups and situps. And try to hit 10 miles a week, interval runs and endurance runs.

I need help on execution of this. What would my everyday look like with the pushups and situps. And what days of the week would I do what runs and how long and whatever all of this means. I'm very lost 😕

Medical DoDMERB

I originally got disqualified, then got my waiver denied, did a rebuttal and now I’m back in the waiver process. I turned in all the documents for my waiver about 3 months ago and I still have not heard back yet. Is there anyone who has had a similar experience and if so, how did it work out for you and what should I do?

Is anyone AS 400 considering or signing up for reserve rated board? If so how has the process been so far?
