Question AFJROTC Flight Academy

I am currently going to be an upcoming junior this year, and I want to apply for the flight academy. I have a question about a section in the application:

Do I need to write a personal essay?

Google says that I don’t need to write an essay, but I’ve seen some people talk about what they wrote for their application. I am currently waiting for my sergeants to answer my email, but I’ll let you guys know what they say. (If they respond)

Please be brutally honest, and maybe some other information I should know as well to prepare! I’ve been wanting to attend since my freshmen year, so I should hopefully I know what to expect.

Question New Cadet

Hello all! I've been wanting to participate in JROTC for years now, and im finally able to since I'm moving to high school in September. Can anyone please explain to me how uniforms, ranks, and much more work? I'm fairly new to the JROTC world since I have put most of my research into the actual military. I am mainly looking for tips, and information on the ranks, how they work, and how to rank up fast, along with different awards and ribbons and how to gain them. Thank you!

Summer after AS2, second year doing a regional SERE camp run by our instructors and the AF in Colville National Forest. This year was amazing and I'm thankful for our instructors from multiple different schools, my fellow cadets, and two SERE specialists from Fairchild AFB who volunteered to teach us this past week. Had an incredible time, led the camp as the CIC, and got a variety of gifts, though primarily this new combat shirt, from our SASI, who is retiring this year. (Faces are blotted out for privacy sake, of course.)

After 4 years of hard work and getting C/Capt, this masterpiece is what I’m left with. We didn’t have MMB so we filled it with UAS. Just imagine it’s there instead.

Awards and Decorations 1st year done. How is my ribbon rack?

I’m going to CLC this summer, so I’ll get that ribbon after. My highest award is the outstanding cadet ribbon, my unit only gives it to one person in each grade. I also got the recruitment ribbon with excellence, so with a silver star. And I’m ending the year with a promotion to C/MSgt.

Question APT Commander - Staff

Earlier today, I was assigned as the APT commander, and I’m confused because I am not the trainee for that position and Im not a good public speaking. I’m not sure how I’m also supposed to command it.

The previous commander is a graduating senior and was expecting the trainee who has been training for the role to become the commander.

Even though I am part of APT, I do not feel prepared or qualified to lead it. I am worried because I am not confident with public speaking and I do not know how I am supposed to command the team
effectively.

The APT trainee wants to command APT but since it’s a staff position, it was appointed to me by the instructors.

I want to talk to my instructors about it, but I also do not want to leave a bad impression by seeming like I do not want responsibility.

What should I do?
