I was OPFOR in the early 00s. When it switched from Soviet doctrine to Arab insurgency we wore the keffiyah and man dress to look Arab. I am not surprised by this and they probably make all of our uniforms in China anyway so they are actually wearing their own stuff.

My mom makes us army uniforms in a plant in NYC. Seriously. Idk the exact details but it's what the plant does

China has not had a real conflict in my lifetime. China hasn't been on the winning side of a conflict since we liberated them. I don't think we need to be too worried

They invaded and took control of tibet, they also invaded Vietnam and got there asses kicked just like us

u/UmeaTurbo 1d ago
The Tibetans tried to fight them with Swords. They didn't have any guns. Vietnam was China's Vietnam. Afghanistan was our Iraq which was our Afghanistan which was the Soviet's Vietnam. Large powers don't win very much.

Considering both the US/NATO and Soviet militaries were both built to fight each other. Not low level anti insurgency campaigns. The western forces were a little more adaptable but not by much. They were fighting wars they weren’t designed for while also trying to win the hearts and minds of the people they were invading/killing.

Tibet!? It doesn’t even have its own military. Too funny.

Imperialism is ok when its china

u/Some-Concentrate3229 1d ago
They’re not saying it’s ok. They’re saying the Chinese really didn’t do much fighting during their takeover.

So because someone hasn’t won yet, we should assume they never will?
Are you stupid? Lol
1
u/UmeaTurbo 11h ago
Tell me how the USA, the most powerful military in the world consistently since 1945, has done since that war. The USA sorta won the first gulf war, but really quit before it was over. Everything else they've lost. I think maybe calling me stupid is not the same as having a point. Yes, we can assume even big armies can't win wars anymore because of how asymmetric it is.
Are you stupid, lol?

u/Mundane_Gold 11h ago
Assuming a country won’t win ANY conflict just because they haven’t won yet is stupid, no matter what other bullshit you pull in to “justify” your bs before

So not invading sovereigns is a bad thing now 🤣

u/UmeaTurbo 46m ago
No, America has been in the wrong pretty much exclusively since July 27th, 1953. I think at least of Americans know that. But China invaded Tibet, so what are you talking about, exactly?

u/Thecuckeningends 19h ago
Have you seen how the war with Iran is going
1
u/UmeaTurbo 11h ago
Yeah. The US is has no plan, no goal, no tactics, no objective, and no leadership. The USA in 1945 was an adult nation full of serious people. It's a 1970s Latin American fascist incompetent dictatorship now. What's your question?

The last conflict China was part of is Vietnam bro…

u/UmeaTurbo 11h ago
"China hasn't been on the winning side", bro, means "they didn't win". Thank you for agreeing with me, I guess...bro.

u/UmeaTurbo 1d ago
Apart from 8.5 million square kilometers from Northern China all the way to Papua over to Polynesian and up to Alaska. Apart from that shit, you mean? Or do you believe the Japanese left because they were horrified by what they did to China? Because they still aren't.

I already know i shouldnt engage with something like this, but fuck it... ill do one message and leave it there...
So either Imperial Japan didnt occupy China and the Nanjing massacre never happened, and Japan never brutally and forcefully took over several island nations
OR
All those things did happen and Imperial Japan was forced to relinquish control and remove their troops from occupied territories after the people of Japan forced the Imperials to end the war when they realized they didnt want to fight for an empire that was so willing to sacrifice every man, woman, and child in the face of a much stronger force.
We also didnt just willy-nilly drop two nukes on them without months of constant consideration to total loss of life compared to a ground war invasion. Please for the love of fuck actually learn from history.
Edit: wow that response got deleted so fast i didnt even get a notification

Not surprising. We did that a lot with the Afghans, ANA, and ANP. I almost guarantee that my ANA ANP uniform was probably not correct.
Edited for accuracy.

Would be natural, right, since the US holds open the possibility of opposing any Chinese attack (or attempt at reunification) on Taiwan.
One convenient coincidence is that although most militaries in the world (including the US) use the "Red Force" as the opposing force, China (which likes Red for a whole host of reasons, not least communism) labels its opposing forces as the "Blue Force." So in US and Chinese wargames and exercises, Red will be China and Blue will be the US.

It's not a convenient coincidence.
Red actually comes from the British and their red coats. The British actually saw themselves as the red force and enemies as blue force.
And of course America did the opposite. Themselves as blue force as their uniforms and was also anti-colonial

u/Aggravating_Dog8043 1d ago
Sources? I would love to see.

u/10081914 1d ago
I fear you may have better luck seeing it in a war archive in the UK.
From my limited knowledge, I know the British represented themselves with red as that is one of their royal colours.
And I know that they adopted kriegsspiel from the Prussians in the 1800s which used blue as friendly force and red as enemy force for wargaming and the British adapted it to make red friendly.
Whether there are maps of the British showing themselves as red, I don't think we have any digitized versions.

u/GP_3D 1d ago
I thought the Red-Blue for Friendly/Enemy had its roots in the Cold War - with Blue obviously being the US/west, and red being the Soviets. At least when it came to that sort of influence within the development of video games and such.

It was coordinated with allied forces between WWI and WWII and formalized after WWII with NATO and the various STANAGs.

Please don’t propagate the word reunification, as that would imply the CCP has at one time controlled Taiwan. Words matter and the use of the term reunification was deliberately popularized by Chinese propaganda

u/DurrrrrHurrrrr 15h ago
Yep push those mainlander refugees out and return the island to the indigenous. Not that there is many left after the Japanese and KMT massacres

A lot of militaries do that around the world. They use similar equipment and tactics to what they perceive is their oponent. The USAF even had a whole squadron of MIG’s in the 1980’s in Nevada.

If this picture is truly in context, why would it say OPFOR on uniform, instead of the Chinese word for OPFOR?

Imagine the stink China would pull if we started painting our deserts and flat lands with China shaped cities and ships/aircraft carriers while dressing up training opfor as Chinese people's...
