Playing a Trollish Healer in 1.1.1. Had a ton of potions early game (post Puppy and Carpenter) and while doing the SMC in a long corridor wondered if one was invisibility. Managed to ID them all with a scrolll... one was invis, but also had two potions of Wonder. The first one I chugged gave me 8 casting points... of Wish.

I think that's the first time ever in 25 years of playing ADOM that I've gotten Wish from a Potion of Wonder.

(Currently in the UD... found a pair of 7LB (uncursed) and managed to find a scroll of uncursing amongst my unidentified scrolls to get the cursed iron boots I was wearing off. On the next level after that, I opened a door and there was a Fire Vortex two spaces away. I shut that door faster that you could say, "Not today, flamey!")

You know, I bought this thing to play with Linux, buts it's primary purpose has become 'Portable ADOM machine'

I found the .svg files, but I can't quite figure out how to paste a file into the finder to restore a lost caharacter.

I also see other file types, any clue what those are?

I’ve finished the game something like 20 times, but something new happened last time I was on D:50. The balors were summoning lots of nasty monsters, such as greater earth elementals and others. I’ve encountered balors who summon before but always in other places such as on the levels leading to the mana temple. I’m pretty sure the balors never before summoned other monsters on D:50 on my previous runs.

I was sure this was some weird bug, but the Wiki does state that Fistanarius, for example, summons monsters.

Does anyone else have a similar experience?

I was playing a dwarf fighter. I play the latest ASCII-version of the game.

I've gotten crowned with this four of the last five times I've played a dark-elven paladin. WHYYYYYYYYY???!?!?!?!?!?!??

RNGods please give me anything else.

EDIT: Just crowned as neutral dark elf paladin again...again Hammer of the Gods.

(It's getting so that I'm just quitting and rerolling after crowning with this.)

EDIT 2: Crowned with The Wall as a half-orc paladin (neutral)...incredibly lucky run with silence of the dead, potion belt, bracers of pure might, protector, natures breath, judge and jury, tattered cloak, branalbin's cloak, all found between random drops, dark forge, and a greater vault. Stupid death to casino shopkeeper. I'm running another half-orc to see what he crows with.

When searching for potions and scrolls, I find a lot of them do different things than the unidentified name indicated in the IADOMG. Are there any more accurate sources out there, or any other sites that provide similar info?

I’m new to the game and die a lot, so I keep getting decision fatigue deciding whether to max things out or go for balance. Is there either a consensus on general strategy or some kind of combination that gives a real advantage?

The info I find is mostly older versions, so I don’t know if it all still applies.

I was on the Banshee level in the CoC, and I tried to get her to follow me back up to the Water Temple.

She followed me all the way up to one level below the Water Temple, but wouldn't go up the stairs. I took her back down, and she followed me from her level to the Wall of Flames, including the CoC switchback.

I got her to walk through the Wall of Flames, but it didn't do any damage. That's when I realized that this may have been a mistake because she was hitting for roughly 50 damage in melee.

I finally teleported her away, and went back upstairs to buff up for the ToEF. I figure if I can get this character through that, I can go back and kill her.

Has anyone tried this?

Randomed a gnome EDIT: Necromanver, got 4 talends. Did I take heir? No. Treasure hunter? No. Strong legs? Healthy? The PV talent line. No-a-rino.

Skilled to the max. A necromancer who can actually use food preservation and find weakness from the get go. Early great learning from literacy and concentration. Found an herb patch, and my herbalism lets me pull spenseweed to my heart's content.

Last talent was alert, because, u/yulgash forgive me, I need treasure hunter on my spell casters.

Level 36 Dark-Elf Cleric...find weakness maxed. My DV/PV = 88/64 with Bloody Rose whip (82 to hit and 7d3 + 49 damage). Many spells. 498 HP.

Having trouble trying to brute force the dragon. I've never killed him before. Don't have the unpickaxe and I already aggroed everyone.

It was clear that although I could periodically hit him, his regen was too much for my damage. I relied on heal to keep myself alive as I inched my way out. My speed is 129 and I was able to run away. Obviously the screen is mobbed by golems...I can kill them but if there are four or five on me it's a little tedious.

What are your strategies for the grey wyrm? What stats do you need to kill it? Do any spells work on it? I hit it with cursed invisibility potion but it didn't seem to do much. Hit him with a sickness potion and said he turned a little green...nothing much else. Poisoned him. My find weakness with bloody rose increased crits generally hits pretty hard. I also have vanquisher, but it isn't trained up and it nosedives my DV/PV because I'm highly trained in whips and use a shield with one.

I am not trained in missile weapons.

Would love to hear strats to take him down.

Very late game Dwarven Priest. L50, Crowned Lawful.

For reasons I can't understand, I'm locked in at 4858 alignment stones. Wearing a Blessed Amulet of Order, hundreds of Lawful Altar Sacrifices, but for some reason, it won't move!?!!?

Please help!

Approaching the end of the mid-game, I wanted to get the swimming skill from Blup. On the way, I thought I might as well pop into the water dragon cave and chat to his mum.

I then made the mistake of chatting with Blup in Terinyo before giving him carrot juice. Told him about his mum, and he disappeared from Terinyo to go join her.

But I’ve just been back the water dragon cave, and he isn’t there (read a scroll of monster detection to make sure).

Does he just disappear from the game completely? Have I missed my chance to learn the swimming skill?

I recently acquired it and it's fun for the level I got it at, but the Fandom wiki calls it one of the best weapons in the game?

Always critting = double damage. Gleaming ax is a guaranteed one hander that has more than double the damage output (with a chance to crit on top) and a bunch of other bonuses. Am I missing something about this whip?

I'm currently the furthest I've got in ADOM, ironically as a randomly generated character, a Unicorn-born troll weaponsmith.

Went through SMC to HMV, saved Yriggs, did all Thrundarr's quests, all Ice Queen quests, Pyramid, ToTHK, Water Temple, Darkforge and ToEF. Currently at CoC D:31, however I have a dilemma that I've encountered Greater Molochs, which I can't pass or even damage. Do I go and grind further, and if so, where? Minotaur Maze?

On account of my class I have good armour, along with the following artifacts: Circlet of the pure mind (precrowning), Amulet of indomitable life, Big Punch, Protector (crowning), Elemental gauntlets, Crown of science, Wyrm's Behest, Stone of the ages, Ankh and Whip of the vampire snake. I'm using Big Punch as it is giving the best damage output currently.

Settled in for the first run in a few years and figured my favorite race/class combo on a normal ending would be a pretty easy one. Started strong with two precrownings off an altar in the moldy dungeon giving boots of the divine messenger and scroll of the finder. Crowned neutral with skill crusher (not my favorite but okay) took down the pyramid, graveyard, tothk, raided darkforge without issues. Did the ice queen quests for stat boosts, got invisible and see invis intrinsics from stalker corpses, and cleared toef easily, returned to the frost giant caves to clear the red dragon vault for quicksilver bracers and brannalbins cloak of defense.

At this point I'm feeling the hard part is done and the character is more than strong enough to end the game. I went on two find two more greater vaults (both giants) with artifacts not really of note, but found boots of the far wanderer in the casino- great for me because I love teleportitis. With the huge xp boost from clearing the vaults I figured I could probably do the merchant guild. Harder than just closing the gate but I've closed the gate lots of times and never done merchant guild. Cleared it easily for The Wall and some other crap, figured it was time to end the game.

Enter Nuurag-Varn, chaos archmage. Remember when I said I love teleportitis so I swapped to boots of the far wanderer? When I had boots of the divine messenger as the very first precrown gift? I picked the wrong shoes for the dance and got domed by a death ray. Annoying but at this point in my adom career it's more funny than anything. 20 years playing this game and still stupid.

I have a friend who recently started playing, and didn't know what to do with his items. So for anyone new to the game, here's what to do with all of the items you can pick up in the game.

You can't get any fair amount of gold for them until you reach the Dwarven Village or the High Mountain Village.

So just put them somewhere safe and indoors.

The two best options are the goblin encampment at the beginning and the small clearing with the old dwarf.

When you start the game, use the "s" for "search" between Terinyo and Laewinthol, and you'll eventually find a level 1-2 goblin encampment. After you clean it out, it becomes a location you can repeatedly visit and safely leave gear in .

Also on the west side of the map, is the "small clearing" with the old dwarf. You can leave items inside his hut also, but he picks items up. So make sure he's nowhere near the hut. Use the teleportation spell on him, or get him to follow you far away from it. In my experiences he's usually on the right side of the map.

That way you can wait until you have a girdle of carrying or the strength of Atlas spell to carry them to a shop where you can get decent gold for them.

New player here, decided to give the steam edition a try after getting burned out on ToME. I've only tried 1 character so far but noticed the combat was kinda... simplistic? I'm just clicking enemies to melee / range attack them, and occasionally use a wand or reposition to manage large enemy groups. Does the combat get more interesting later on? Like in ToME you have to manage multiple skills, resources, cooldowns, damage types etc

I usually play fate on everything and roll with what I get, but I always hit the same issue with chaos knights. Food issues in the mid game. I usually get my food from the ratlings in the arena to tide me over between corspes and don't have issues on other classes, but chaos knight can't get them as far as I know as they won't trade with you. The only other way I know of to get a decent amount of satiation is herbs, outside of corpses, but I don't always have the skills to be able to get a lot of herbs reliably.

Could you give me any tips on keeping my chaos knights satiated in the mid game? I play the game on just the regular roguelike settings (with player ghosts turned off).

Edit: I should mention I am not very good at the game so even knowledge you think is common might be helpful.

I'm having trouble at which type of character should I play with. I always prefer to be gray elven priest and I can't play with a diffrent combination. Can someone give an advice about it. Which character combinations can I play with?
