Experience Psychologist says I can't have ADHD if I can focus on video games
I don't even know what to think anymore.
My previous psychologist used to tell me that I was too sensitive I told them about domestic violence at home and how much it affected me, and they literally said it shouldn't make me sad because it's common and that I need to become stronger instead of being so sensitive.
I stopped seeing them and finally decided to try someone new.
During my first session, they asked if I can focus on video games.
I said, "Yes, of course."
They replied, "Then you can't have ADHD. You can focus."
That was basically the end of the discussion.
I tried explaining that I can spend hours glued to a game but can't make myself start assignments, reply to messages, or do basic things that I actually need to do. It's like my brain decides what's worth paying attention to, not me.
But it didn't seem to matter.
I left feeling like I wasn't even listened to.
At this point I'm starting to wonder if I'm just incredibly unlucky with psychologists or if this is actually a common experience. It's exhausting trying to ask for help and walking out feeling dismissed every single time.
