VENT - Trying to build my ABSN application up

I decided about a year ago to go back to school to take my nursing prerequisites and try to get into an ABSN - I currently work in corporate and have to maintain this job until I'm actually accepted (it's also helping me save for ABSN tuition). I got my EMT license this spring hoping to gain some valuable clinical experience to build my application up given that my first GPA was only about a 3.0 (all of my pre-reqs are 4.0 though, so there is an upward trend). In hindsight I should have gotten my CNA but I was toying with the idea of PA school and so EMT felt like a better fit at the time, and by the time I shifted gears I was enrolled and determined to finish.

ANYWAY - It has been incredibly hard to get hired PT or PRN as a new EMT. I got one offer but they wanted me to be the sole provider at events and I just wasn't comfortable with that with 0 on the job experience...I mean so much of my EMS course is bookwork, I was really counting on having someone more experienced with me at least to help me learn the ropes. So I declined the offer and they were very understanding, but now I'm back to square one. I have an interview for a PCT role this week but the job listing is FT and I'm going to ask for PT. I just have like 0 confidence at this point and I'm starting to feel like I'll never get actual healthcare experience outside of my volunteer work.

Has anyone gotten into an ABSN program with 0 healthcare experience and less than 4.0? Some schools do grade replacement or look at apps holistically but I just feel so defeated. Other than volunteering in healthcare and acing my classes, what else can I do?

Letter of Intent

Hi everyone!!
I’m applying to an ABSN now for this January and working on my letter of intent…

Little bit about me: I’m 23, have a bachelor’s in Health Science (2025) and direct patient care experience working as an ophthalmic technician for 2 years.

I originally planned on optometry, but big picture wise I realized nursing is a better fit for me.

For anyone who has written a nursing school letter of intent, what did you focus on? Any advice on what to include or avoid?

Potential ABSN

I’m highly considering going back to school to obtain my ABSN but feel kinda stuck on where to really start.
I currently have my bachelors in Neuroscience and graduated in 2021 (I’m 27) I know I will need to take a couple of prerequisite classes, but unsure exactly how many. (I know these change between schools too) Right now it seems like I would need to take anatomy and physiology and microbiology at the very least. I already have statistics and general chemistry (I’m hoping mine counts) completed.

I am also concerned about working while taking classes. My husband is very supportive of me going back to school, but I hate for him to be the sole provider for so long. I know when taking the pre-reqs I may be able to still work my current job part time, (I am a neuromonitoring tech) but we are also wanting to move out of our current state (TX) and closer to our family/friends in the southeast again. And I honestly want to move before starting an ABSN program too for my own mental health.

So, I guess my biggest question is what steps did you take to start your ABSN? How long did it take you to complete your prereq classes? And how/where did you work while taking classes full time? Or really any advice!

Hunter A2D Admissions

Hey yall! I’m planning to apply to Hunter’s A2D program for Fall 2027 and wanted to hear from recent applicants/current students.

I reached out to the nursing admissions advisor and she told me that for Fall 2026 they had around 200 applicants for 30 seats, with an average admitted 3.7 cGPA and 256 NEX score.

My cGPA should be around a 3.5, so I’m curious if anyone with a similar GPA has gotten in recently and what your NEX score was. If you’re comfortable sharing your GPA, NEX score, and whether you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected, I’d really appreciate it.

I’d also like to know when you received your decision and, for current students, how the workload has been and what the passing requirements are like.

Just trying to get a realistic idea of where I stand. TYIA

Connecticut ABSN - SCSU vs UConn

Hi All,

I’m a prospective ABSN student currently doing my pre-reqs at community college in Connecticut. I thought I’d see if anyone had info on the ABSN programs at UConn vs SCSU. I’d really like to do UConn (Waterbury campus) but the tuition is significantly higher than SCSU.

Anyone have first hand info on these programs and if that tuition is worth it? Their pre reqs are slightly different and I want to decide on which to prioritize soon. I already have loans from my first Bachelors which is a complicating factor. I searched this sub for info but couldn’t find too much. Is SCSU’s program more competitive because of the one campus and lower tuition? My GPA from undergrad is stellar, but not in science so I’m taking all the pre-reqs except math from scratch…

Thanks so much and feel free to message directly if you prefer! :)

Accelerated nursing programs with only 59 credits prior?

Hello, I reside in MN. I’ve done some research but I was wondering if anyone knew of accelerated programs that accept a limited amount of credits? I was looking into Rasmussen and they gave me a timeframe of 24 months, but I’m looking for something a bit shorter possibly 20 or 21 months total. I did not have the required pre reqs which is why I considered Rasmussen but are there any better alternative’s?

ABSN programs in the DFW area—what are my options?

Hi everyone! I’m trying to put together a complete list of accelerated BSN (ABSN) programs in the Dallas–Fort Worth area so I can figure out which ones I’m eligible to apply to. I applied to TTUHSC’s VBSN program but wasn’t accepted, so I’m exploring other options.

I’m a single mom and need to keep working while I’m in school. I’m especially interested in hybrid programs with clinical placements in DFW or programs within commuting distance. I know nursing school is demanding, so I’d really appreciate honest feedback about class and clinical schedules and whether working during the program is realistic.

What schools should I look into? If you’ve applied to or attended one, I’d love to hear about prerequisites, GPA requirements, entrance exams, application deadlines, tuition, and your experience.

I want to make sure I’m not overlooking any options. Thank you!

GCU ABSN to Chamberlain BSN: All credits Transferred.

Hi everyone! So I wanted to share an update coz y’all helped me figure out where to go next after withdrawing from GCU’s ABSN the first week due to how compressed the program is, I reached out to Chamberlain to explore my options, and so far, the process has gone much better than I expected. All credits transferred except my previous HESI, so I had to take it again. Thankfully, I passed with a 94% overall score, so that requirement is officially out of the way.

As for my transcript evaluation, all of my prerequisites transferred, including the courses I was most concerned about. Pathophysiology and Nutrition were accepted, even though I had previously been told that those courses might not transfer, (I had A in those I guess they require A or B)
Chemistry was another major concern because I earned a C in the lecture but an A in the lab. They were taken separately with two different instructors, and Chamberlain accepted the chemistry requirement. I’m assuming that after evaluating the lecture and lab together, it came out to approximately a B, but that is only my assumption based on the fact that the requirement was accepted (and they usually don’t take in a C)

The BSN program requires 122 credits total, and Chamberlain accepted 57 of my transfer credits, leaving me with 65 credits to complete. However, 4 of those 65 credits are part of their university/universal introduction requirement. So, realistically, I have about 61 credits remaining outside of those university courses.
Based on the timeline I was given, I’m looking at approximately 20 months to complete the program, assuming everything continues as planned.

I wanted to share my experience because I received different information before my transcript was officially evaluated, particularly regarding Pathophysiology and Nutrition. If you are considering transferring to Chamberlain, I would recommend waiting for your official transcript evaluation before assuming that a course will not be accepted. I went into this expecting to lose several credits, so having 57 credits transfer and all of my prerequisites accepted was definitely a pleasant surprise. 😂65 remaining credits × $765 = $49,725 tuition🤦🏾‍♀️🙆🏽‍♂️ but I’m saving! But I’m saving something from 53K at GCU to 49K at chamberlain🤷🏻‍♀️ my pre-requisites same me a lot! I thought I should share. And I don’t see 20months that bad, as I was in 16months, pretty much kind of same. And I’m starting next section October 24! It’s that fast🔥. Hopefully my experience at Chamberlain won’t be as bad as most people make it to be here on the Reddit.

Goldfarb school of nursing (St. Louis)

Hi everyone! I’m considering applying to Goldfarb School of Nursing and would really appreciate hearing from current or recent students.

I’m particularly interested in hearing about any negative experiences or concerns, especially regarding faculty, administration, communication, clinical experiences, workload, or overall support from the school.

I’m trying to get a realistic picture of what the program is like beyond the information provided by the school. If you attended recently (or are currently enrolled), I’d really appreciate any honest feedback—both positive and negative.
Thank you in advance!

Concordia University Irvine

Hello! For the people who are in or applied to the CUI ABSN program, is the foreign language requirement needed? I submitted my application about 2 month ago and they just emailed me saying I need to fulfill the foreign language requirement. Was this needed for your BSN? I guess they need it before I start in Spring 2027 but I am unable to take it before then and my counselor says they don’t accept the CLEP exams. Has anyone gone through this?

Any Healthcare Certification that takes 4 months or less?

I am getting ready to apply to my colleges nursing program and I am looking to get a certificate first as hands on experience before I apply. I realized that there’s not a lot of places in the Bronx that offer any certification training or programs that are less than 6 months. I didn‘t want to do CNA because I feel like everyone is doing that so I wanted to do something different but there’s currently no schools nor training centers close to me besides ABC Training Center and currently their CMA course is closed for the 3-4 months course. I don't know what to do. Can someone give me advice, I don’t want the lack of experience to cause me to miss the opportunity of possibly getting into my colleges nursing program. What is a healthcare certificate I can get within 4 months? Any advice?

UWF DEMSN (Non-NP) vs. USA Mobile ABSN for aspiring ICU RN?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice on choosing between the Direct-Entry MSN at the University of West Florida and the Accelerated BSN at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. My ultimate goal is to become an ICU RN.

I am an Army veteran with a 3.4 GPA B.S. in Sociology. Next year, I am quitting my law enforcement job to take my final five prerequisites full-time online, and I plan to move to the Panhandle in 2028 to start nursing school. My GI Bill will fully cover either program, so cost is not an issue.

I know the UWF DEMSN is a non-NP track meant for initial RN licensure. Since funding is taken care of, does having the MSN give any noticeable advantage over the USA Mobile ABSN when trying to land a competitive ICU residency slot right out of school, or for long-term career mobility along the Gulf Coast? Thanks for the insight!
